Keanu's real best friend, River Phoenix, died right before filming was supposed to begin. They graciously pushed back filming so Keanu could mourn. The lady in the elevator froze up because flight and fight aren't the only responses to extreme stress. There is also freeze, where the fear is so bad it essentially locks up your body and your ability to form reasonable thought. It's kind of like how some animals "play dead" in response to stressors.
@Mambaru2 жыл бұрын
Yup that and she must have been thinking that, if the elevator drops further, she'll be cut in half
@akasarahsmom2 жыл бұрын
Also she was probably aware that there was the very real possibility of the elevator falling while she was getting out, cutting her in two, or cutting her feet off...or whatever. Unless the elevator is secure pulling people out like that is not exactly 'safe'. That knowledge was probably part of the fear that froze her up. LOL.. I know because I've been trapped in an elevator before and even after the emergency people got the doors slightly open they didn't put their hands through and cautioned us not to do it... they did pass a few things through (candy for the children that were in the car) but never a hand or arm, only things.

One of my favourite films of all time! One of Keanu's best films. Made even better with the metal gear theme thrown in! Great reaction guys!

Director Jan De Bont was the cinematographer on DIE HARD. The airline name was Pacific Courier which is the same logo on the truck Hans used to get his goons in Nakatomi plaza

Everyone knows fight or flight. But it's actually fight flight or freeze... it was panic/anxiety. She was "stopped dead in her tracks" in the opening scene. Edit: "Ya shoulda got shot, lady!" 🤣

Part of the soundtrack of Speed really reminds me of the music from Metal Gear Solid. I've looked it up before and it isn't the same composer, but it has that same feel. One of my favorite action movies ever because it's just so good with little downtime. Edit: Wow, you mentioned it right at the first of the video! lol

One of this film's writers, Graham Yost, went on to make the incredible show Justified. He and the other writer have an incredible DVD commentary for it, taking nothing about the movie seriously, and by the end Yost seems genuinely angry at how little sense his own script makes. "Okay, why? WHY would they not have it turned on the whole time?"

I never saw the end of the movie. I turned it off when the bus started to fly. Probably cuz I once took a high school physics class.

About the plane, if you look the door had been removed so it was a plane that had been taken out of service and was being towed to an area for scraping. Plus it was a cargo plane.

I saw this movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called... “The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.”

I take it you guys aren't familiar with Dennis Hopper. He's kind of a legendary character on and off screen. One of his movies that's a favorite of mine that you're not as likely to hear about is "Flashback" with Kiefer Sutherland. It's a real fun watch!
