Duke Farms Eagle Cam - EAGLET STARVING ON NEST!!!

Do we really to watch Eaglet 2 starve to death on the nest from malnurishment? Each time there is a feeding the parents do not put much effort inot getting food to it. This poor eaglet went to bed with an emaciated crop while the other's was completely full. It is a third of the size of the other eaglet and it seems that the parents are disregarding it. If we are going ot monitor them why not step in when necessary?

The bigger eaglet is clearly 3 or maybe even 4 days older than the smaller one. That's a huge difference. He's bigger, stronger, and pushes his way to the front to get most of the food being delivered. Only when there is an abundance of food and both parents feeding them would the little one survive.

I totally agree with you! And for those acting like it is a 3 day age difference there are enough eagle cams out there with eaglets with the same age difference that don't have the size difference. I think some of these Moderators and full time viewers/commenters that enjoy watching these all the time waiting for disaster to strike. It's sadistic.

These are aggressive and wild birds of PREY. Not all that hatch are going to survive…That’s just common knowledge of wildlife. Expecting their lives to play out like a Disney movie, will always leave you disappointed. So, it’s always best to accept reality and know that what you’re going to see is not always going to be favorable. When choosing to watch these live cams, you take on and accept that knowledge and responsibility.

@@karenrosgen4586 Who is he reaming out or putting down??? All he was saying is that people get overly emotional all the time when one doesn't survive either from starvation or older siblings attacks. It's normal behavior for eaglets to do this but all too often if the little one doesn't survive the comments are loaded up with all these negative comments and false information because a lot of people tend to anthropomorphize these wild animals trying to give them human characteristics and actions. If you thought that was being put down and reamed out maybe you are too emotional to watch these nests. You're a Karen though so as to be expected 😂

This little guy made no attempt to be fed, you have to understand that in the eagle world if you want to eat u have to get front and center..if you notice this guy didn't move. Also I think the mother sensed something wrong with this eaglet...if u take that under consideration the fact that it wasn't crying and trying to maneuver for food it just stayed there and add to the fact that the mother maybe felt like this eaglet sad to say wasn't made to fly then I think it answers the question as if to why the eaglet was left to die

This lil one was crying to be fed but made no attempt whatsoever to advance up towards the mom to ask for food. It just stayed in one spot crying and moving an inch only? Strange? I didn’t watch this nest when the second was born but did the oldest show aggression towards it at all during previous feedings?

Good observation, no it was not being held down. The little one had multiple chances to maneuver around but never made one attempt. The older sibling never showed aggression the little one simply didn't have the desire or fight to survive. It sucks but that's the law of the land, only the strongest survive. Glad you can see with your own two eyes instead of making emotional assumptions calling the mom a bad parent or the older sibling evil when in reality the youngest made no attempt to eat. Eagles do not walk over and feed each eaglet the feed whoever is front and center asking to be fed. To say this eaglet was 24-7 pinned down is just crybaby talk

Because these cams are not in place for rescue mission purposes. They’re there to give us the rare opportunity to take a peek into THEIR lives. Nature has it way of weeding out the weak. This ensures that whatever genes are passed on, are strong ones and keep a species from going extinct, Karen. Watching wildlife isn’t for the emotional individual that can’t understand nor accept instinctual behaviors of the wild animal. If you can’t mentally handle or accept the way they are, why are you watching it? People have taken many live cams down off KZbin because of people like you that can’t respect Mother Nature and her decisions. When watching these live cams, YOU accept and take on the responsibility of knowing what you’re going to see is not going to be favorable. Not all that hatch are meant to survive.. that’s just common knowledge. Nature isn’t a Disney film, princess. It’s brutal, unforgiving and cruel. These birds HAVE TO BE in top physical and mental health for survival reasons. When humans interfere with these nests, there’s a chance that mom and dad will abandon the nest. Then what?! Find “homes” for them all? Be realistic and use a bit of common sense, Karen.

😡🤬 FUCKING STOP. Are you going to pay for the rescue and 24-7 rehabilitation and treatment?? You know they have to hire professional tree trimmers who can climb sometimes hundreds of feet dangerously while the parents circle above sometimes attacking ans causing trauma to any eaglets on the nest ??? Then they can only go to special facilities that are legally able to and have the resources and staff available to hand raise a chick that wasn't meant to survive in the wild and diminishing its chances of being able to survive out in the wild. Nature isn't rainbows and unicorns if you can't handle don't watch but stop telling others what to do without using your brain to realize how much goes into "saving" a wild animal that nature has already given the death sentence to. Then what happens if it survives and spreads its genes then there's another generation of weak eagles?? Please stop thinking with emotions and use your brain. I love eagles more then most animals but survival of the fittest is a real thing and there are reasons nature has been successful for millions of years. If it were based on emotional humans every animal would survive and the ecosystem would collapse. Please just use your head. It's ok to get attached but not to sit there and demand shit like this giving other people the idea that it's ok as of its easy to do and even right in the first place 🤢🤮 and that doesn't make you a good person you're doing more harm then good by posting that kind of crap

The same old, worn out comment! This is Nature, that's the way it is! I'm so sick of hearing it from uneducated people and educated people as well! And saying this little chick was sick! No one knows that! He was simply not strong enough, age difference to great and he was ignored and then finally, literally sat on by the larger chick until he died!! I don't care what anyone says and I don't care about these ridiculous laws! If these little animals lives are to be invaded by people, then it is peoples responsibility to step in when trouble occurs! And I know ALL, GOOD, CARING PEOPLE feel the same way! Also, the comment, if you don't like what you see, turn it off! That's typical also!! Everyone knows that! I am an expert in conservation and Wildlife! That's no joke!! I do realize what happens in Nature! But this type of thing is just unacceptable! I also realize that the people who are responsible for the content of this site, DO work hard!! But we Humans have a bigger responsibility to these creatures, then just observing them! WE are the ones responsible for all of the problems facing these beautiful animals! The World is in BIG trouble and everything and every life we can save is a small win for our precious Planet Earth!! We have had enough of the attitude and quote, "That's Nature and that's the way it is, we can't interfere, it's the law"! And I also realize that the Moderators expect comments like this and delete them! That's fine with me!! I just hope that some people who care, even law makers, will read this and pull their heads out of the sand and reconsider things! But I know that will NEVER happen! Why!? Because they don't give a damn!!

The laws need to be changed. If these small underfed eaglets can be saved then they SHOULD be saved. It is possible to raise them in captivity and release them again. I know it's hard to watch, but please try to understand that Nature works in her own way, in her own time. It's very possible that the parents aren't feeding the smaller chick because they're very new and just don't know how to do this properly yet. Or, they may sense something wrong with the smaller chick and know that they have to focus on the healthy chick to ensure its survival. In this video, the eagle parent is looking at the smaller chick. I'm not an expert by any means, but eagles are pretty smart and aware. It makes me guess that the second option is the correct one. This scenario is being played out all throughout the animal kingdom all over the world. There just aren't any cameras to capture it. If you want to see a pair of amazing, highly successful eagle parents who've had multiple years of healthy chicks (including two, Stars and Sentry, in the nest getting ready to fledge) right now, fly over to the Redding, CA eagle cam. There's a great community there that comes back every year. This is my second year watching and I plan to watch every year. Hope to see you there before the youngins fledge. @@kathsch8966 [Edited] You don't have to understand it if you willfully don't wish to. But, it's very simple: Animals and human animals have different expectations for the parameters and members of their societies. The general animal kingdom do things that human animals don't and vice versa. And yeah, once upon a millennia-long past, humans did leave the sick, the old, the disabled to die because the tribe couldn't care for them And survive at the same time. Early humans were vulnerable and left the unhealthy and incapable to die. It was also the idea of being able to pass along traits that would make their progeny stronger so they would survive the elements, the other animals, enemy tribes; figure out how to get what they needed to feed everyone; and on and on. It's modernity that allows those who would've been left to die in the past to survive today. At the same time, humans barely consider themselves as a part of Nature because we haven't interfaced with it in any serious way for hundreds of generations. Animals, with the exception of domesticated ones, haven't changed all that much. Their instincts and needs remain in tact. So, while we talk to our friend on our iphones, waiting for our UberEATS delivery in our house/apt to arrive before we binge whatever's on our streaming services with our pampered pets sit next to us, wild animals are trying to simply survive the next minute and the one after that. Again you don't have to like it, but that changes the Truth not at all. If this isn't sufficient enough of an explanation, I don't know what else to tell you

Most bird eggs hatch a few days apart so the first "born" is going to be slightly larger to begin with. Birds can be incredibly mean to their offspring frequently killing them and throwing them out the nest if they think they're not strong enough. How do you think storks got a reputation for "dropping babies"? It's not the pretty picture often seen on new baby cards! They notorious for dropping their smallest over the side of the nest.

Nope dead as a door nail was fed to the stronger smarter eaglet. The lil weak one only had itself to blame, expecting food to be delivered to it's mouth when it can't even take a few steps closer to mom to get fed when the older one isn't even being aggressive...doesn't deserve to live. That's tough but so is nature and it's got this thing figured out so that's why and it being illegal nobody is going to rescue something that isn't meant to survive

@@deannacoleman913 That’s because an eagle being injured by fishing line is a direct result of humanity’s damage to the environment and thus must be resolved by humans. It is in no way natural for an animal to be ensnared by human equipment, but what is happening in the nest is a result of natural selection that leads to stronger eagle populations. It would be wrong for humans to interfere in which they have no part in.

The eaglet wasn’t very well cared for because it was underdeveloped and wouldn’t survive in the wild. As painful as it seems, it is nature and, in many cases, it is illegal for even the most well-meaning of individuals to interfere with an active bald eagle nest. That is very different from treating a well-grown adult who has most likely been injured indirectly via humanity’s damage to the environment.
