Actually, while that might be true, it was never supposed to have halo's max 2 weapon slots or the regenerating health either. There are some game mechanics and parts that make a game what it is... This game lacks many of the parts it was known for.

This is a strawman argument. The tone of the game is the one thing that they get right. They complain about the gameplay being far inferior to previous Duke games. Gameplay wise, Doom is a good example of what I was personally expecting from the game. Doom delivered in spades there.

I think like with everything else that is overhyped, fans go apeshit when it's not the greatest game to ever exist. They expected WAY to much out of this. I thought it was decent. It's Duke Nukem. You run around and shoot. What were you expecting? Some of the greatest game mechanics and a story that is more epic than Lord of the Rings? If this game came out only a couple years after the original it wouldn't have gotten so much flak. But because it took eons for this thing to come out, fans who had way too much time on their hands, got over hyped and their hopes were immediately dashed when it wasn't the greatest thing to ever exist. Never expect too much out of a game, especially when this game was known for simply shooting stuff. You're just going to get disappointed, flail your arms around like an idiot and type long essays on why you spent eons waiting for a game that you thought was going to change your entire perception of gaming.

no fans were expecting a game that is not shit, and that has at least has some of the fun of the original DN3D. it had none of that. thats why its hated. and yes, if a crappy game like this came out a year after the original people would still hate it. critics judge games for their own merit and not based off their predecessors so when the game DNF 3/10 scores because its a terrible game in its right, not compared to DN3D from the same reason CoD keeps getting good scores despite being the same shit over and over again

stories of this games shittiness were grossly overblown.. it did take on too much of the CoD like gameplay though.. two weapons, no life, barely any secrets, no exploration.. and still I'd rather listen to duke's one liners and chauvanism than be some sort of half ass who thinks cod is gritty/real or something. In then end, all this game really needed was to remember it's roots. be a little more arcadey.
