Everyone thinks the hippies were pissed off but I think it gave the majority of them a real kick. It was just such a trippy contrast, their music was such dumb fun. I think a large proportion of the crowd loved it, if ironically. Hendrix himself was a fan of the band.

The original version of this song was a number 1 hit for Gene Chandler just 7 years before this performance, so I’m sure most of those “hippies” were familiar with it already

I love their set. Im glad Ive seen some of their other songs performed. Woodstock was quite a melting pot of genres of music .It wasnt just folk music. There were so many different nationalities performing as well. Having Sha na na represent some nostalgic music really put the finishing touches on all the genres that played out that weekend. So I feel they did have a place playing there.
