We went there together and that determined my whole life. the music, the people, the whole feeling. I still think about it a lot today, listen to the music and am there again in my mind. there was nothing bigger. Many greetings from Germany Michael

I feel like this is The Who giving the last word on the 1960s. They closed it out and the sun rises on a new dawn. Its beyond epic and beautiful. You can see in this footage what kind of virtuoso Keith Moon was on those drums that made his playing so legendary -- and at 23 years old. INCREDIBLE!!! What's crazy is that, while Keith Moon's style looks crazy wild, his timing is perfect. That's what made him so unique as a drummer. His style is like no other, and that's how he will always be remembered. Thanks to whoever put this concert out here. You almost have to see it to believe it.

All respect to Keith Moon and his boundless energy with how much it added to the Who's music, but he wasn't very good at keeping time, something John Entwistle and Pete Townshend have both said about him repeatedly. Entwistle and Townshend couldn't rely on their drummer to keep time, and had to do it themselves most of the time. Again, not to say that Moon wasn't talented, but keeping time wasn't his strong suit.
@timottes3346 ай бұрын
@@Kpengie You don't know what the fuck yer talking about. They've said Moon wasn't a traditional, backbeat, timekeeper as a drummer... not that he didn't play in time... In fact, Roger has commented vehemently against the stupid notion that Keith didn't play in time... " He had an inner metronome. " Roger Daltrey. When you listen to The Who live & don't find your foot tapping in time, or ever find Roger rushing the lyrics or slowing them down to keep up or slow down for Moonie... you let me know!!! Of course, the Cow Palace episode aside... Watch Peter Criss live in the mid to late 70's.... & much of the time he speeds up so fast that Stanley can't get the lyrics out. That's the most obvious way to tell if a drummer can't keep time/has a sloppy meter!! You NEVER see this with The Who & is probably the main reason they were the most powerful live band EVER!! Moonie played to click tracks live & in the studio & if a drummer can't keep time he can't play to click tracks... just ask Dave Grohl... Much of Who's Next & Quadrophenia are played to clicks... and Moonie was an expressive drummer playing to those clicks... IN TIME!!

Remade, re-edited and remastered in 4K. This new version is superior to the old in every way. To start with, I used the audio from the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Edition CD release which has been remastered by Prof. Stoned. It's a lot better sounding than the old version. On the old edit, I stretched the audio around to fit the footage which would do the job of syncing the audio, but would hurt the overall quality. This time around, I have left the audio untouched to remain at the correct speed for the whole show while still keeping the quality. For the black and white footage, I have used AI upscaling and frame interpolation to greatly improve the quality and bring the footage up to a smooth 60fps. I think it looks way better. For the various proshots, I've ripped the Blu-ray versions whenever available rather than the DVD's for a huge upgrade in quality. The DVD versions not only ran at the wrong speed making the songs too fast, but also suffered from a ghosting effect because the footage was being played back at 29.97fps instead of the intended 23.97fps. Now with the Blu-ray versions, I can let the footage play at the correct speed and in its original frame rate of 23.97fps. The only footage from a DVD source is the extra footage used on My Generation because that particular version was only ever released on the "Woodstock Diaries" DVD in 2002. Everything else is from the Blu-ray releases of "The Kids Are Alright" and "Woodstock" the film and bonus features. Like last time, I've added in a countdown timer whenever there wasn't any footage available. Since the camera mixing on every version of Woodstock isn't that good (incorrect shot and cameras being out of sync) I had to cut up every single camera shot individually on all the different versions and one by one correctly resyncing them all to the new remastered audio. The only song with no footage in Shakin' All Over. For the black and white footage, it would play back at various speeds throughout making it quite a challenge to get it all synced up properly but I think it's pretty much spot on now. I have fixed the beginning of Heaven & Hell which now includes more footage of the intro than the old edit. I added in a new bit of footage on Sparks at (15:10) of Roger banging his tambourines together which wasn't in the original edit. Removed a section of incorrect John footage which is now in the correct place at (29:51) on the left side. On We're Not Gonna Take It, the first bit of footage was in the wrong spot, I found the correct section just a little bit later at (41:36) and put it side by side with the other cam. See Me Feel Me has quite a few differences in the overall edit of the cameras. This new edit is a little more cleaned up with a few extra bits of footage added in and one incorrect shot removed that I replaced with another angle. My Generation has a couple very small extra shots added in and for Pete's solo at the end of the show, I opted for just 2 cameras this time instead of the 3 on the old edit. Now its only the footage from the Blu-ray for a more cohesive edit. There are two main things missing from this video. The proshot footage of Summertime Blues from the "Woodstock" Movie and the black and white footage of Sparks, Pinball Wizard and See Me Feel Me. For Summertime Blues, KZbin just simply won't let me upload this video with it included. It gets blocked every time. However KZbin doesn't seem to care when it's used in its own separate video. So I actually made a re-edit of Summertime Blues, removing the incorrect shots and syncing it all up better with the remastered audio. You can watch that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYSclmCmerqCbMU As for the extra black and white footage I couldn't include because of the proshot footage used in its place, I've uploaded that as it's own separate video also. One of the best things about this footage is you can actually see Pete kick the director of the Woodstock film, Michael Wadleigh off the stage as he was filming a little too close for Pete's liking during Sparks. It happens at (18:14) on this video, but the cameras don't really catch much of it. I used AI upscaling and frame interpolated on this too for the best quality. You can watch that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXLThoCgrturrNU

Mr. Nussbaum made the student promise to bring it back next Friday so we could all finish listening. I hightailed it to Westwood Village and bought my first copy of Tommy that weekend for....$3.69. Wore it out by the end of the year. There was never a better rock & roll act than the Who and this video is a welcome tribute to one of the more iconic performances of the '60s. Much appreciated.

Imagine going on stage at 5am and playing for 400,000 people. That could turn out to be a disaster for some bands who would party way too much durum the night. But The Who handled it well. What a band! I wish there were more shots of John, especially during My Generation. Camera men back then always seemed to focus on the singer or guitarist no matter what. Anyway, bravo on this upscale remaster. I’m watching on a 4K screen right now.

Apparently Roger was tripping hard on a really bad trip, but he held it together and phenomenally performed. If you've ever had a bad trip before, you can imagine just how uncomfortable it would be to be up there in front of a massive crowd.

Only The Who could not expect Abbie Hoffman to rush the stage, yet seamlessly kick him off, comment almost viciously, then continue on playing the penultimate rock opera. This is like not just being on stage with them but also feeling it as they felt it. So much of the 1960s in one show, a hippie messiah kicked off by Tommy and his campers. They're not gonna take it. And let's remember, they thought this wasn't one of their better shows.

It’s a great snapshot in time as Tommy had just been released and it’s great to hear them play most of it live. Moon was still banging full speed here before he started losing it in the early 70’s, and he’s a fun watch. And it’s wild to think there was a time you could see The Who live and they don’t close with “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, as it didn’t exist at this point!

Thank you for posting this. Pete and Roger are known to say this was the worst gig they ever played. I couldn't disagree more. I guess they're relating the bad gig feeling to the horrible backstage conditions, how far behind the schedule was with their set being bumped to the wee early morning hours, Abbie Hoffman crashing their set, and having to follow a blistering set by Sly and The Family Stone. The Who are sounding pretty damn strong.

the sound IS superior to earlier versions, by far. I don't recall ever seeing 2 angles on 'My Generation'. that has to be an out take straight from WB's Oscar winning film. even the 'extras' DVD on the 'WOODSTOCK:3 days of Peace & Music' re-issue, my player won't play, Goddam it. the last player I had, which bit the dust, played it, so I don't understand it at all. I've read that it has to do w/ the region I'm in. but Monty, I am impressed! you give us the real Gibson SG sound that the audience 55 years ago, heard. the clarity of sound, warts and all .I shall return to this site.

Oh no! Check out the Live at Leeds 2000 re-issue that finally included the full Tommy set re-mastered and uninterrupted. Put the speaks in front of yourself, turn it up LOUD, and listen to Live Tommy at Leeds for a mind-blowing operatic experience. According to Townshend, he thought the Who reached their live peak at Isle of Wight, but they were never recorded better than at Leeds.
