The 1984 team was one of the best Carolina teams that didn't win the championship. They were rolling along until Kenny Smith got hurt, and this team was never the same after his injury.

Bitter sweet. UNC was the pre-season #1 team in the country and remained #1 every week going 21-1 in the regular season. Look carefully and you'll see that Kenny Smith has a cast on his left hand. The Duke game was his first in five weeks and the chemistry was a bit off. Best team to not win the national championship.

@Mike Chilton Again, it happens. The other great teams to not win are '83 Houston - Drexler, Olajuwon; '99 Duke - Brand, Maggette, Battier, Avery, Langdon (all NBA); and of course '91 UNLV - Larry Johnson, Anderson Hunt, Greg Anthony, Stacy Augmon

@@atenanimism9336 not even close he would be crying that he got fouled on normal plays in the '80s and '90s. You so much as touched LeBron while he's heading towards the basket and you get called for a foul. The game was way different back then and LeBron would not be able to score nearest Easley with all the talent that was in the 80s and '90s.
