Water passes onto the screen via a specially designed acceleration plate, which provides an even distribution of flow and an increase in the water velocity. This high velocity sweeping flow down the steep face of the screen ensures that all excluded silt and debris is flushed away. The abstracted water passes through the screen and collects in a chamber beneath, which is connected to the pipeline or intake channel.
The screen allows only clean water to enter the intake system, while excluding leaves, silt particles and even fish eggs. The excluded debris remains in the river, thus eliminating any need to dispose of material.
