I have a 2017 Armada & have had to get a new break switch. Nissan should be ashamed because many & more than likely all has had this issue but I called & there was no recall for the 2017. The lady at corporate said I'd have to get on another website to report the problem & get a recall started. ..... Just throw the Armada in the trash I say because it's starting to do the same thing & I just fixed it less than 3 months ago!

@johncasey27464 жыл бұрын
The switch shown is actually for the cruise control but for some reason will release the brake start issue temporarily. I did it and it worked so thank you so much. I actually bought an extra cruise control switch (correctly named ASCD Cancel Switch and Nissan Part No. 25320-BR00A) and brake sensor switch (correctly named Stop Lamp Assembly Switch and Nissan Part No. 25320-AX10A) for a 2019 Nissan Sentra SV but Nissan Altimas seem to have the same issue. You may have to give your VIN number for the correct cruise control switch. The cruise control switch is actually orange and brown and the lowest below the console. The brake switch is green and black and works in a similar way. The issue is the two metals rubbing against each other that corrode and leave corroded material that looks like dirty silicone between the contacts. The brake sensor works best to clean with a Q tip. Now for the most important note...if you are ever stuck like this reach under the console and release the brake sensor switch by turning a quarter turn counter clockwise. Keep it dangling until you get home or to a safe place. The brake lights will show being on but who really cares when safety is potentially at risk. This provides the quickest fix that anyone can do quickly. I hope this helps others. This should be a recall that Nissan fixes but it has been going on for years with no word of an issue mentioned from Nissan. I have owned many Nissans over the years but may switch after this experience.
@BarryMagroine4 жыл бұрын
I only replaced the brake light switch because my slip light would come on intermittently and sometimes the car wouldn’t start. Nissan replaced it and the slip light still came on even with the new switch. They only found abs code c1116 for break light switch/stop lamp switch, cleared it and put a new switch again because they said the first new switch they put may have been faulty, so they put a new break light switch again. Does the cruise control brown switch also cause the no start issue or slip light ? Nissan didn’t replace that switch, they only replaced the break light switch on my 2017 sentra. I’m afraid that I’ll continue to have that slip light intermittent issue or a no start. Its so random. Car first did it last year September 2019. Then it was good for 8 months till July 2020 and it did twice. Hopefully it doesn’t come back. From the looks of the video the cruise control brown switch may have to be changed too. If the issue comes back I may have to tell the dealer to replace the cruise control switch too. But who am I to tell them how to fix anything? They should know this. But the dealer didn’t do that one. Cruise control switch replacement seems to have fixed the problem on this video though..
@johncasey27464 жыл бұрын
@@BarryMagroine It is intermittent and the cruise control switch sometimes works with the brake lamp switch for some unknown reason. I kept the old switches and cleaned them per the video. I think the issue will always be there because the contacts inside both switches are copper and they rub against something that looks like aluminum. This creates corrosion over time...it really makes no sense why the switches are connected but it worked for me, Dullah, and a bunch of others in the string...I need this car to run so let’s hope having a spare switch for both works.
@BarryMagroine4 жыл бұрын
John Casey thank you. Replacing the cruise control switch will be my next step if it happens again. They already replaced the switch twice. Second time on Friday. But since it’s intermittent it could come back any time. Slip light turns off after restarting the car. It could come back in 2 weeks, or even months like it did the first time. It’s just tough because Nissan won’t replace a part unless it is bad. It’s hard to tell them. Nissan please replace my cruise control switch because it may be working with the brake switch and it could be the reason why my slip light turns on and car doesn’t start intermittent problem. Lol basically It would be as if I’m telling them how to do their job and I know more than the mechanic lol. I’ll figure it out though. Thanks for the info, I didn’t know the cruise control switch sometimes works with the brake switch. This is a big help. Thanks.

I have a 2014 Sentra and was experiencing the same issues lately and after watching this video, I carefully followed the steps and was surprised to see black oil covering some of the contacts. Since I cleaned it out and put it back on, the problem stopped. I managed to break a side clip while taking it apart, but it didn't cause a problem as I taped around it. I also got a few minor scratches on my hand while taking it apart, but it was well worth the effort which I didn't regret. Thank You! It Took 5 minutes to do, and it worked perfectly! I do recommend using a Q-tip with a solvent to clean all the contacts such as rubbing alcohol/mineral spirits/acetone (nail polish remover). They evaporate very quickly and leaves the contacts dry. I used a solvent called brush cleaner that I had around. Didn't want to put any scratch marks on the contacts. The Q-tips and solvent removed everything; the Q-tips were covered in black soot. The contacts looked brand new again.

I had a 2018 Nissan Sentra that had this same issue. It was in the shop and they claimed to fix it under the recall. It still wouldn't start 70% of the time. I ended up trading the car in for a 2019 Nissan Sentra hoping it would be better. It's been in the shop 3 times now for this same issue. 2 of the times they claimed that they ADJUSTED the brake switch and applied tape to it. It worked for almost a year with no issues. This week its back to almost never starting. I've missed work and been late for work all week so far. Today for the 3rd time it was taken to the shop. They claimed that they adjusted the switch and that it's fixed. Less than an hour later after driving all the way home- here it is not starting AGAIN! Now we have to take it back to the shop again! What they're doing under the recall is just a bandaid (a temporary fix) that doesn't even resolve this problem. They need to permanently fix this issue! I've also saw a ton of information online about lemon laws for Nissan vehicles.

Works Great. Thanks. To clarify... There are 2 switches on the brake pedal in a 2009 Murano. Remove the larger one with multiple cables. It's responsible for cruise control and other stuff so I guess also button start control, the other takes care of brake lights, so the parts guy said. The one with two cables is NOT the one you need to clean. They both look different so it's easy to differentiate. On mine the upper switch was the one to remove and clean. Check operation with multimeter after cleaning. Also check brakelights working after remove/refit is done. Genuine Nissan dealership replacement part in Australia is $44 AUD, eBay about $20 AUD.

I have any Armada that is doing the same thing. I’m going to replace it myself but want to make sure I replace the correct switch. I believe the Armada has two as well, one on top and one below it. Do you know if it’s the one on top in the Armada? On top meaning further away from the brake pedal.

Worked on a 2018 Armada. There are two switches on the Armada. The bottom switch is for the brake lights. The top switch is the culprit here. Thanks

I dealt with this same problem on my aunts 2017 altima. She wasnt able to get her car started and she brought it to me. Took me a couple hours to run down the problem. I ordered and the OEM switch and with in 4 months that switch had gone out again. So I ordered an aftermarket switch made by Standard I think. Has not had a problem since and its been about 1.5 years.
