When taking the three measurements choose the widest width to cut when at the corner. I usually creep round the corner only a millimetre if possible thus saving most of the pattern and yes always keep the pattern going at eye level if it's an awkward corner.

Good job and I realize it is just a demo,however its always good practice to look at the pattern before you cut and hang floral and pattern papers as used here. As you will notice the flower has been cut off half way through at the top when there was no need.Just a tip and can make a huge visual difference.When I did my city and guilds level 3 we were always taught to spend a little extra time doing your working outs (visually and by measuring) before hanging the first length,apart from that a good demo.Mark barber decorating

Just a small thing I would like to add which I learnt the hard way from not doing it. Remove the paste that ended up on the ceiling from when you cut the top length of each piece to size because if it dries you might need to repaint the full ceiling, unless when touching up your white emulsion matches perfectly.

Garry Sexton's comment below.... NEVER use one continuous piece of paper. If he goes back some time later after his work, he will see the paper has left the corner and you can poke your finger through. This video is the correct method.

Cross line the walls = Use a special wallpaper or can we use a simple plain wallpaper? We are wallpapering walls with a "mottled" finish to the wall, scraped off as much as we could to make it flat (should have used a sander) But today we cna see seems. If we had cross lined the walls it would have been much easier. I wish i found this video sooner! Thank you for your tips.

Jacko that wallpaper is a drop match. The flower on one side is not repeated opposite it there will always be extra wastage with it unless you work with 2 rolls at a time.

As a professional Painter & Decorator with almost 40 years experience, I was horrified to see so much pasted paper to both ceiling and skirting surfaces, yes, take 3 measurements to internal corner but which of the three do you cut to size. Also, always fold the length on the table 'for cutting' depending on right or left hand corner, and according to pattern. Any professional will know what I'm talking about here. Just a personal preference, but I prefer using a folding metre rule for measuring and cutting parallel to the table, I find it more rigid and accurate to use.

Ive never installed wallpaper before but i think it would be stupid to apply the glue to the paper and making a mess by getting it on the ceiling and floor... apply the glue to the wall first and save yourself getting it everywhere..

good demonstration, but one thing i noticed was when he was folding the paper, he did not butt up the edges, you must always do this to stop any part of the paper drying out quicker or more then the rest. good job though!

Why put the lining paper horizontal for? O don't like the top and bottom off cuts. There is a little too much cut off in the centre of the paper top and bottom.

Im a little confused. Can someone explain how there is overlap from the same piece of wallpaper when placing in the corner? There shouldnt be any overlap as it was cut from the same piece. and the pattern wouldnt match up if there was an overlap? Am I right in this or not?

Hi Is because the wall that is finished it might not be plumb ( level )and if you don't do what he did this will affect the other wallpaper to take the same line it might be of with few centimetres till the end of your second wall. And so on. Think of this you have mirror on the wall but is just a little bit of set. Would it bother you ? I hope this explains. Thank you

The wall would need to be primed before the wallpaper otherwise it may not stick.

If you overlap in the corner surely the pattern won't match exactly?

That’s correct as corners are never perfect 90 degrees and so can be out as much as 2 cm or more from top to bottom a perfect match is impossible so you can only get a near as possible match what is more important is plumbing out for your next piece

Interesting I know my father has done it for years (not professional but very good standard indeed ) but has worked paper around the corner rather than as you shown separate cuts with a plumb line I'm curious as to why this (separate cuts) would be better than using one piece? Our last home we had some paper up we done and was done my father's way and looked cool only shall I had was after setting a good time later (days/weeks) there appeared one or 2 atruos had a ever so slight gap between 1 or 2 strips only noticeable when up close and may have been my doing!!!

a painted wall is fine as it will already be sealed by the paint as long as the paint is not flaking

It depends on what paint was used on the wall. Oil based or acrylic? Probably best to use an oil based pigmented sealer first otherwise when the paste dries and the wallcovering shrinks, if it was acrylic paint, you will find the whole lot on the floor, including the paint, because it’s porous 😅 Hope this helps! 😊
