Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To. The original film's directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given. The Farrelly brothers produce Dumb and Dumber To alongside Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland of Red Granite Pictures. They are joined by fellow producers Charles B. Wessler and Bradley Thomas. Universal Pictures will distribute the film in the United States, Canada and select international territories.(C) Universal

He should have stayed until the end. That's his job as a film reviewer. If I walked out of my job I would get fired. Some movies might suck, but you have to stick it out so you can give the consumer an informed review, because that's your job. Just seems a bit irresponsible.

Agreed. One thing motivating him to walk out was the idea that he would get to say "I walked out" on this show.

Oh please - His job is really just to entertain people by talking about movies, which you can do if you leave halfway through. He's not like a heart surgeon walking out of an operating theater with someone's chest cavity still open. For the most part, people who have fun jobs that aren't really important don't have the same mindset that they _have_ deal with crap when it comes up because ultimately nothing bad happens if they flake out once in a while. It's not something that would ever become a pattern, because most movies are actually pretty entertaining. (Even the shit ones are usually worth sitting through once you've paid)

If he is a professional film critic then it is his job to see the whole movie no matter how bad it is to him. He didn't. I'm not complaining about that. But if he did that then he shouldn't review a movie professionally. It's not professional behavior. If he does it, he starts to lose some credibility as a critic.

I understand walking out of a movie as a normal person. However, Matt's occupation is that of a film critic, so he failed at his job by walking out, regardless of his opinion on the movie.

+What The Flick?! When I first heard that they were going through with (it was tentative at that point) with a sequel to Dumb and Dumber, "mean spirited humour" is exactly what I was afraid would derail it; that the Farrelly's would not stay true to the heart of the original, and get carried away with how degenerative the comedy genre has become in today's zeitgeist. The main reason I feared this was because I have seen the "Unrated" version of Dumb and Dumber which is the true original vision for the characters. Thanks to that version and The Farrelly's more recent outings e.g. Hall Pasa, it became clear that the Farrelly's actually are pretty mean spirited people deep down. Maybe what made Dumb and Dumber so lovable and balanced was that the Farrelly's pushed the envelope and the studio would reel them back in. But less of that happens these days with the current comedy climate consisting of "comedy" like Family Guy, Nick Swardson, Anchor Man, etc. Though, at least Fam Guy and Anchor Man were more consistent. Anyhow, if you watch the unrated version of Dumb and Dumber, it gets very homophobic and there is much inconsistency like the sequel, which, incredibly almost makes it unwatchable. That's all it takes. A few scenes of schlock. I am surprised they didn't realize that when making the sequel. Oh well.

It's unprofessional for a film critic to walk out of a movie and still have an official professional opinion of it. You can say what you saw was bad enough that you walked out but not much else, in my opinion. It doesn't matter if someone says that it doesn't get better, he didn't see the movie, he didn't experience the thing he's supposed to have experienced to have an opinion and publish a score. I haven't seen the movie and have no love for the original and have no intention to see this so don't think I'm trying to defend the movie, I don't have issue with the other two that saw the movie saying it's bad, I don't care, but if you haven't seen the whole movie then you can't really comment on it.

Critics usually go to free screenings. The thing for me is how Matt wore the fact that he walked out of the theater like it was a feather in his cap. When Gene Siskel walked out of "Black Sheep," he admitted it and moved on (and did it 2/3rds of the way through.) Walking out of this halfway through, yet still letting his score be counted is just incredibly unprofessional.

The Edge Of Tomorrow was an example of a movie with a pretty horrible trailer/preview and yet it was highly rated as a movie. Sometimes good movies have bad trailers... Sometimes Bad movies have good ones. I didn't really like the trailers for either of JJ Abrams Star Trek movies, and yet loved them as movies.

I don't necessarily disagree with this review -- I haven't seen it, not even half of it -- but I *am* surprised that NO ONE on this panel put this movie in any historical context; that is, no one here gave any opinion about how they felt about the ORIGINAL film. I think that might color, perhaps to a great extent, one's feelings about this one. For example, did Matt like the original? I am curious as to what he thought about it. Anyway...I *had* wanted to go see this in the theater, but...I'm not so sure any more. But for the record, I loved the original film. Speaking of walking out on movies, I really *should* have walked out on 'The Counselor,' but given what you pay for film tickets these days, even matinees, fuck walking out if it ain't free.

Jim Carrey is too old for this kind of movie. With that format, you need internal logic and consistency and plot. Airplane!, (flying high in Australia), Airplane II, Get Smart, Blazing Saddles, There's Something about Mary, Bill and Ted, and other such films have plotlines, story arcs and character motivation.

There's a difference between being offensive while making a funny joke and being offensive and thinking that's enough to be funny. Too many people are too stupid to appreciate the difference. I liked the original, but I could tell this one was going to be bad from the trailer. I didn't laugh once.

The first Dumb and Dumber had jokes that were subtle in the sense that you actually had to think for a second to get them. They weren't in your face, and honestly the humor was very different than most of the other comedies. I had a few friends who weren't too bright who saw the first one and didn't get the jokes. When I watched it with them and explained the jokes, they said "Oh! Now I get it!". They then told me they saw it again and that they loved the movie. The second one took a film that had a ridiculously unique sense of humor and turned it more mainstream to fit everyone. It really sucks. I could see why he walked out. (If reviewing films wasn't his job, that is). Also.... the racist bits... I mean, come on. When I see a film make fun of how "White" white people can be, I love it. It has me dying. Seems like they're trying to play to the - please everyone/ politcally correct side.

Dumb and Dumber To is the best movie I ever saw! Lloyd and Harry were so amazing and so funny because they didn't need to fake themselves and be somebody else, they were so free to be real, even though "by mistake" others thought they were some "respected" persona. I laughed a lot, because I have seen this in many real life situations. I liked a lot, that Harry never asked the question why his parents were asian and not white. By the way, is it racism when white people adopt black or asian or ... children?! This is nonsense! I strongly recommend this movie! It is more than funny, it is a Great movie! ❤️😍❤️

Another spoiler alert, they get their Mutts N Cutts van back by stealing it back from the guy who traded it to Lloyd for the moped in the first movie. 20 seconds later, they jump a hill with it, then land and blow out the tires.

I saw the movie. I'm Chinese. How was that scene with Harry's parents racist? They're Chinese and Harry's too dumb to realize that they can't possibly be his biological parents. The Chinese couple had accents and spoke Cantonese. That's what many China-born Chinese people, living in America, do. If the Farrelly Brothers were gonna go through with the gag, they had to pick one race that wasn't white so it might as well have been yellow. What I find irritating is that Matt Atchity would just accuse racism because it's fashionbly convenient for a white guy to accuse other white guys -- the Farrelly Brothers -- of being racist. As if throwing the accusation of racism in a movie review would make one, a virtuous nobleman. I really disliked what Matt said and thought it was irresponsible and cheap. BTW, Dumb & Dumber To is above-average; I'd rate it a 6.0.

I'm chinese too and I didn't see it as racist...he'll she was speaking canto!!! You know how rare that is!?!? The whole joke was about misunderstanding..and um..it's not racist because there are tons of old asians that do speak like that...it would have been rAcist if they were wearing china rice hats, wearing chinese clothes eating fortune cookies, bowing, mixing asian culture...it wasn't. And the asian parents knew what was being misunderstood, so it's not racist when the joke isn't on them. Always trying to pull the race card....

Like no one can possibly be that stupid and be a functioning human being. I get that its a movie but its still annoying and not funny. I remember only seeing a trailer for this in the theater and cringing. It had a lot to live up to. I felt it did better than I expected it would, but it still wasn't near as good. The humor a lot of the time was much more crass/nasty than the first film (literally 60% of the time, the audience of the movie theater I was in was going "eeeeeeeew" and "awwwwww, nasty" as opposed to heavy laughter that the original movie brings). The toilet scene of the first film was gross, yes....but it was hilarious. A good amount of the jokes in this were too nasty to physically laugh at because your mind was so busy with how gross it was. Besides that, the film re-birthed all the old classic gags and sayings without making them seem forced (except for a few like the "second most annoying sound in the world"). However, the credits almost made the film feel like didn't have faith in itself (as 50% of the screen is filled with footage from the first film almost as if to give the audience a time to return to the first and get some real good laughs due to good memory). It was a fair sequel, but it ultimately just made me crave to watch the original again.

I'm not the biggest fan of Jim Carrey, and the first movie isn't exactly my favorite either, but my friend convinced me to go and see this anyways. It's nothing more than a dumb comedy... I mean, it's even in the title. When you walk into the theater, leave your brain at the door. Having said that, enjoy the movie for what it is. It was a nice throwback to the lesser serious comedies of the 90's/early 2000's, and it did exactly what it was supposed to do. I thought it was surprisingly funny, and enjoyable throughout. I love the TYT channel, and I get that they lean towards the left on their political and social views (I do too), but come on guys... Not everything needs to be super PC. It's a mindless comedy. As offensive as some of it might have been, let it have a little shock value. What's the point in an adult comedy without a little danger? Part of the fun is in the way they toe the line... sure they might step over it a few times, but again, leave your brain at the door and enjoy it for what it is. I don't think any of the targeted humor (Asian parents, ALS guy, etc.) was particularly hateful, or serious. I mean, the protagonists themselves are unreliable narrators. They're made out to be goons. That's the draw. When Jim Carrey accuses the Asian mother of speaking gibberish, you should clearly be able to understand how stupid his character is to think that. That's the joke! These reviewers need to lighten up. I immediately discarded the opinions of the person who walked out and the guy who didn't even see it. It was a harmless comedy. Nothing more, nothing less. Lighten up and have a laugh.

I may be in the minority here but it didn't even dawn on me that those two particular scenes would be offensive or racist. I laughed not at the asian couple or the person with ALS but at Cary and Daniels. I think that was the goal of the creators. While people still hold onto this "we need to treat people different" attitude however well meaning we will never move past the prejudice. I have to agree with one of the previous sit at home critics. Matt Atchity is an admirable movie buff and great at giving perspective on a story. However in this case I think he got it dead wrong. First, I think one big reasons the first D & D was a success was because of the amazing soundtrack. It was a musical story for us high school grads of 1993 and a great way to tell us that we can all be idiots sometimes. I think that the jokes in this one weren't as good as the first movie but they were what you would expect from the Farrelly Bros. The brothers have hit a streak lately where everything they do is wrong. I believe that this is due to the fact everything in the U.S. seems to be offensive nowadays. (except 2.5 men or Big bang theory). Meaning if it sucks it is okay just as long as you don't offend anyone. But if the Farrelly Brothers don't take chances and force the industry to take risks or use off color material in films, than what are we left with? All movies will be as unfunny as 2.5 Men? Matt Lighten up! You need a new Tommy Bahama blanket and some cocoa to cuddle up with. Happy Thanksgiving Buddy!

God damnit, I care so little I can't even finish my hateful troll-esq rant. Now THATS depressing..

Alonso is on the panel for the same reason that anyone who hasn't seen the movie is ever on the panel. They record each week's movie reviews all in one go, so the people who haven't seen the particular movie are there to review some of the other movies they cover that week.

Hey Matt Atchity, what did you people do to rottentomatoes? The new site design has ruined it. You need to fix it. No more community, comments, sharing. Whats the point of it if you can't share reviews and discuss movies?

I liked the first dumb and dumber, but I don't want to see this one. The first one had something witty about it, no matter how dumb it got. I think it's like what you guys said about internal consistency. The first one had it's world completely realistic, and the only thing out of it was the 2 main characters. By everything I've seen so far, it seems like they forgot that with the sequel and tried to make the whole world wacky.

How can you review a film that you walked out of? Even if the movie is bad, you still have to watch the whole damn thing in order to give a proper review.

While you might be right in the case of a movie like Interstellar, you're not right in the case of a movie like this. In slapstick movies, they are what they are from start to finish. I've never experienced a movie that goes from inept, boring, and a waste of my time to masterful, riveting, and worth watching. So once the director and writer have proved they don't know what they're doing, watching till the end is not just unnecessary, it's dumb. Knowing a movie is that bad, and being able to convey to the audience "don't see this!" is fulfilling his function as a reviewer.

bob jones I don't appreciate a movie reviewer who does this and for me he loses some credibility. It reminds me of Rex Reed's review of a movie of which he also walked out of. Sure, he served his part in what he'd seen but this isn't an acceptable review for me.

This movie was basically 2 hours of the Jim Carrey sander toe nail trimming scene from the first movie. Harry was made to be dumber than dirt. The plot was nonsensical and turned out to be a pile of bullshit. Lloyd survives having his kidney removed in the back of car which was bullshit. Harry didn't know what sex was, which was bullshit. The first movie had an actual serious plot with occasional hilarious comedy. The second movie was over the top nonsensical bullshit.

Absolutely HATED the first "Dumb & Dumber".....and I like dumb comedy. But there's a difference between dumb funny, and dumb....just to be dumb and which is NOT funny. 99% of the first film was dumb for the sake of being dumb and wasn't funny. No desire to see this garbage.

Context for the racist part, since these people don't seem to get it. Lloyd, being an idiot, makes some really dumb remarks towards Harry's adopted mother. Kevin Smith had a great comeback for a similar situation in Chasing Amy, where Banky makes similar conversation in reference to lesbians. Look at the character who's SAYING these things. The humor isn't in what the person is saying, it's in how dumb it is to say that. It's Always Sunny does the same damn thing and people love it. In short, do your fucking job.
