After watching your video, I tied this fly. It is a killer pattern for bass, haven’t tried trout yet. I tie it in different color patterns and also on the size 2 hook. Purple over Chartreuse seems to be the go to pattern but there are days when the other colors are a little better. I presently have one box dedicated to this pattern. Thanks, you have a great speaking voice and teaching manner, I watch all the videos I’ve seen you produce, keep up the good work.

I love this pattern. Very straight forward tie with loads of color and size variability. This is a definitely going in my warm water fly box. Thanks for sharing.

I'm heading to Alaska next week; up to Nome, beginning of Silver run. I'm tying these in Pink, Purple, Chartruese and white. I think they'll be killer

Pink and purple combo were killer. Caught over 50 pink salmon and my grandson who is 4 caught his first Fly for salmon on the Dumb Bunny. Great pattern!

Great lookin steamer TLV,I have yet to experiment with the jig hooks but think they would fish great (especially this pattern) in streams with lots of vegetation like spring creeks, which is the majority of my fly fishing.

What a great tie, thanks for the instruction! There's certain patterns that are just plain fishy (without using 10 materials) and this looks to be one of them.

I really love the look of this pattern and want to tie a few up myself for going after bass and pike, but I had a question; what width zonker strips are you using here? I've seen quarter- and eighth- inch wide strips, and I imagine that that much of a relative size difference matters at least a little.

Would love to see more flies for smallies. They have smallies in Jersey don't they? Your videos are the best.

I've been following your profile for a while, you and two other channels have taught me almost everything I know about fly tying. With what would be considered amateur experience at best, would a cross cut strip not be more suited for the belly?

Really awesome pattern, Tim. I've been looking for a nice universal fly that works on bass, trout and anything else that is more attractive than a regular Zonker. I feel like this is a definite contender, i'll have to get a hold of some of those hooks. Also one question, I guess having the eyes on the side of the shank thats supposed to ride up in the water doesn't cause this fly to keel over or upside down? Because thats a problem i had when I started putting Eyes on my regular Zonkers I had to move them to underside of the shank to keep them swimming upright.
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 9 жыл бұрын
Adam Grasinger I tried positioning the eyes both above and below the hook shank and with this particular hook anyway the fly tracked level and true in both positions. I settled on above the shank because I felt the fly looked much better that way. I shot a whole bunch of underwater footage like in the beginning of the video and the fly rarely even tilted to one side or the other unless the "keel" brushed against the bottom. Would have loved to have a parting shot with the fly in a fish's mouth, but things have been so hot and dry here in the NE, I just haven't gotten out much. Glad you like the pattern.

+Adam Grasinger As long as you use jig hooks that won't be an issue. The orientation of the hook eye will do it's job. It requires constant contact and no sloppy line, though.

Thanks Shaban! Ever since I noticed some of my flies swimming upside down I've started considering it in any pattern I tie or draw up. I've been dying to tie up some Jig patterns and this will fill the Jig Streamer gap perfectly.

tightlinevideo I know what you mean about the hot and dry. I live in Western PA and my goodness the creeks are bone dry. I went out twice since this drought and tried my hardest to only fish where the water shaded and cold still. Been begging for some damn rain for near a month now, but Steelhead season is around the bend and our delayed harvests will get their fall stock soon. But thanks for the response, Its always a concern of mine since I started using Eyes because i've tied up a batch of streamers before only to realize they are all swimming incorrectly. Lol and i'm a bit of a perfectionist so if they don't swim correctly I defer them as backup flies. Can't wait to try this pattern out, might even take it up to Erie if the water is high or murky.

+Adam Grasinger Just keep in mind that if the fly does tilt or run upside down it imitates a wounded bait fish better which may result in more strikes also.

Really love this pattern, can't wait to tie it, I already bought some hooks. I've been doing a lot of fishing at night for bass at my local lake and I'm trying to get their attention in the dark. If I wanted to incorporate a rattle in this fly what do you think would be the best way to go about it? Thanks, love your videos.
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 8 жыл бұрын
+gkhan05 Adding a rattle is a great idea! Wapsi makes ones that are shaped like dumbbell eyes. Just replace the dumbbell with the rattle. Even without the extra weight the fly should ride correctly. I'll give it a shot myself. Thanks for the idea.

Awesome tie. I don't think they way you paint your eyes is overkill in the slightest. I've had days where fish will take a chartreuse/white clouser with gold flash and gray eyes regularly and ignore the same fly with red eyes. That tells me they do pay attention to the eyes. And either way, it looks nicer and gives me more confidence thus resulting in me focusing more on presentation and whatnot. I've used the same painting method on brass eyes with acrylic paint for a while now, but I bet the nail polish brushes on much easier.
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 9 жыл бұрын
Alex McChristian The real key with the eyes for me is to paint them in bulk, like a whole pack of 24 at a time. Not only is it faster in the end, but I also get better looking more consistent eyes. It's almost like the faster I go, the better they look.

isn't it somewhat counter productive to sand the lead eyes before applying the nail polish because it's harder for the paint to bind to the smooth surface?
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 8 жыл бұрын
+Mats Chapman The sanding actually removes the darker oxidation from the surface of the lead and roughs up the surface a bit to give the nail polish a little bite. Most lead eyes also have a ridge across them from the casting process and the sanding removes it and makes the finished eye look better.

How heavy I'd it when it's wet
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 9 жыл бұрын
jasonflyfishercolorado fortcollins It is no joy to cast just like anything that has dumbell eyes or rabbit fur and this has both. But, if you kind of open up your casting stroke and sorta lob the front cast, you can really get some distance. Do keep the fly far away from your rod during the entire cast. As I'm sure you know, dumbell eyes hitting thin walled graphite rods is never a good thing.

Really heavy like all rabbit fur dumbell eyed streamers . Up here an the Missouri and Madison I use an 8wt with a sink tips makes casting big articulated and weighted streamer easy . The up side is the big fish just have to kill um :-)
