I actually do this when I watch comedies, and it sometimes works. If I watch something that's supposed to be a comedy, I look for the seriousness and the dignity, and I pretend it isn't a comedy. This trailer did a really good job of what I'm attempting to do. Somebody did that exact thing with Jim Carrey - they took him seriously - and they put him into The Truman Show, and it worked really well, and he became a hero.

Honestly, I don't think it's that. It's that a 32-year-old man hanging out and goofing off and acting stupid is funny. which really proves why Dumb and Dumber works so well, because it has a huge heart pumping the comedy with the actors allowing themselves to subtlely create the drama of the characters, aware of their obvious limitations. One of the 90's best comedies, and a handfull of quotes that still gets you. The blind boy and the bird... LOL. That has to be one of the biggest bellylaughs I had in the 90s, the bird's death and the conversation afterwards in the car.
