I live in a TINY town in Texas, population of about 300. A local girl met a dude online from out of state and he came to Texas to visit her. While he was here, he bought a new motorcycle. Not sure of the make, model, etc. I think it was a cruiser of some type. His first day here riding around our tiny town, he was speeding around with no helmet or gear. Thought it was safe because the town is so small. Later that day we find out he wrecked out riding through the middle of town with no one around. Died instantly. It can happen ANYWHERE and at ANY TIME. Ride safe!

This kinda went into unnecessary ranting.. I mean, what is dumb about swerving? I have a full lane at my disposal, swerving here and there breaks up the rhythm and is just enjoyable to do, rather than just sit still and ride straight. Will some people try to excuse it with an uninformed reasoning of warming their tires? Sure. But nothing is inherently dumb about swerving. I mean, the entire point of being on a bike is to have the freedom that cars don't allow, so why shouldn't I swerve when I want to and have the freedom to do so? Also brake checking is just dumb period, regardless of size of vehicle. If you brake check for any reason other than some obscure safety measure, you're just an idiot. And there are unfortunately a lot of those on the interstates, and they come in all sizes (and so do their vehicles).
@xARxNomaD

Something that I don't see mentioned very often, swerving back and forth can promote and establish visibility to yourself for those in front and behind you. You're adding the element of movement to everyone's vision around you. That's not to say you need to do it regularly, but it's a good tool to have in moments you need to make yourself more visible.

hard brake testing is dumb, but soft brake test to get the vehicle behind to keep more distance for safety, is a good thing. it's better to risk minor read end damage (if driving a car) than risking a massive rear end hit when emergency braking in Norway, at least, we have a 3 second rule, which is that we should have a 3 second distance to the vehicle in front, because of safety in case of emergency. driving too close, can result in a ticket. therefor, I do the soft brake checks if cars get way too close. what I mean by that is just that I brake tap hard enough to deaccelerate a few kph instantly, then right back to accelerate, which makes them uncomfortable being too close (again) I've experienced someone being so close and distracted, that their response was to swerve their car, which means they would crash hard if it was emergency. I'm sure the police would suspend their license if they were around

A high school friend of mine was doing wheelies on the highway. A lot of us were speeding regularly too. It was an old 4 lane highway that was always empty due to parallel, new interstate. Lane splitting is legal in many states. Why? Front impact collisions are the most common type of accident. If two people can't stop from crashing into each other, why would you want to sit sandwiched between two cars? How often do you see someone staring at their phone while in motion? No thanks, I'll lane split and get out of the traffic asap.

The problem with lane splitting is the difference in speed. If you're doing 80, while everybody else is doing 20, there's a 60 delta. Which means if someone decides to switch lanes and you run into them, it's like hitting a wall at 60 (of whatever speed unit you pick). The problem is not lane splitting, which does get increasingly more dangerous the higher the speed, the problem is when you're doing it at 80 while everybody else is doing 20. Use your head, it's common sense.

Don't be in neutral at an intersection as a way to delay yourself from getting side swiped at an intersection like the guy in the red shirt said. 🤦 Just stay in gear and look. You ought to be more concerned about getting rear ended, but if you're in neutral, you just wasted valuable time from being to actually get out of the way. At red lights and stop signs, always being in gear with the left foot down and the right on the rear brake. Other than that, good advice.

But as i also put my feet up on the pegs (not ready to shift, not ready to brake), and my foot isn't on the brake when I'm driving a car, i started letting my feet hang out too sometimes. My feet move less to do what i need to do than when I'm in a car, it takes no time to move my feet over. So on a clear highway, it's fine imo. It's another foot position to use to reduce fatigue.

I only go squid (no gear except boots and helmet) these days during the heatwaves to cool off in the evening riding to the beach which is in my town, never going harder than 60 km/h. If I go outside of town; full gear.

Off topic @Yammienoob can you get a z650rs and put it against the likes of xsr700, cb650r. Or even a vid comparing specs of 650 neo retros.

Good point at 5:00 ! As a dirt biker you have to have immediate access to your 5 controls at all times. Finger(s) over each lever and riding on the ball of your foot. Oftentimes all used in one combined braking and accelerating action out of corners. PS : I think you guys are going to live longer than the Gixxer Sq. 🙂

Soooooo I just threw down for a tire while back in the land of church of twisty roads and able to do a track day but now back in the flat lands and do side to side while dancing to the safety dance and trying to keep from getting a super flat spot on my supercorsa, what better option do I have?

Actually swerving has the benefit of making the rider more visible. The eyes pick up the lateral movement.

Lane Cutting....Freaks people out and gives other bikers a bad name. Speeding (significantly)...Not sure why this is so important to so many. Duck Feet...Only in recent years have I seen this riding position really prevail. In particular those that wear sneakers while riding. Distracted...Narcissism is not a good thing to combine with bikes. High speed Lane Splitting...Seeing this more in the US. In northern Europe they ease in between when cars are at snail pace. But youtube is inspiring more and more wrong behavior Swerving to Heat Tires...Disagree completely. I recommend all street riders do this briefly at ride start. Its less about heating the tires and more about warming up yourself. Swerving to Apexes...Track vs Street: Apples and Oranges Needlessly Redlining...Never understood the need for some to abuse their machine that way let alone annoy other traffic. Same for burn-out culture. Tickling the throttle to make others aware, yes. High Speed Wheelies...Why? Buying a Hayabusa...That's personal. No Gear...No gear or wearing sweat pants, pajamas, sneakers, polyester shirt etc. Beyond logic.

I have a waterproof jacket that blows up like a balloon when air gets under the cuffs at highway speeds. The velcro cuffs don't really help much and my gloves don't stay over the cuffs. Any ideas on how to mitigate that?

The only one I disagree with is the swerving from side to side in your own lane. That lane is mine while I'm in it - the whole thing. I never do it thinking of warming my tires, that's just dumb. I do it and have seen others do it when traffic is slow or we are just bored.

Guys, so on the "swerving in your own lane", I think you lack some experience there to comment. It is perfectly reasonable to do that (a) just after having started, and the tire is 'cold' or (b) after a long-ride of just straight riding. Thing is: this start-break stuff is ok for 'general heat', but your tires are not just the center area - you also need to get the edges of the tire working a bit to keep the rubber mixture flexible. Otherwise, over time, the outer part of your tire is getting stiff, and if one then (by accident) needs to catch a corner, there is no grip cause your tire behaves like a rock rolling on tarmac. So, some limited amount of swerving has a good use. Sure, on 'excessive swerving', that is unnecessary ... Greetings from twisty-road Germany.

I havent legally rode a motorcycle yet....but I have had a few idiot bikers think they own the road and fuck with my car....one took something out of his pocket prob a knife and made a nice mark along the side of my car because "I followed too closely"......it was all on camera, I followed him to his house where he got off his bike like an idiot and threatened me with something...maybe knife again maybe a gun not sure.....called the cops and pressed charges. When to court where he go his license suspended....paid for my repairs and got community service and probation for brandishing a weapon and making threats...oh and the judge deemed I did nothing wrong and followed at a perfectly safe and legal distance ...guy was a jackass

So if you shift into neutral at a stoplight, you’re asking to get the coitus from behind you should leave it in gear so that way if you need to get out of the way of a vehicle, that’s going to insert itself up your backside you can get out of the way, but yeah, of course when the light turns green, you should always look before you go through the intersectionbut some of us like to get coitus from no judgment here

The problem with people going around in not full gear, is more or less in the laws of where they live. Here, in AZ, the only kind of protection that you legally have to have while riding, is eye protection. Nothing else. I think if states make it so that you at least have to have a helmet, there may be less fatal motorcycle accidents. Of course, smart people will have all the gear, all the time. Regardless of what you can legally get away with.
