I only do dumbbell bench press. I wish he mentioned that it is harder to compensate with your dominant arm with dumbbells compared to dumbbells because the weight on each side is not connected. It promotes better form. You can also go at a slightly higher weight without a spot if you workout alone because if you go to failure you can easily drop dumbbells to your sides safely while a barbell would fall directly on you.
@michaelnewton1754

I sold my barbell and weights to make room. Now I have a couple of those 10-90 adjustable dumbbells (can't drop these), and some pairs of 100, 110 & 120s... Was benching over 335 on bar, but just getting 120s into position is completely ridiculous.

I've been using dumbbells for bench for the past year, mainly because that's what's been available, but I've seen better results from the DBs than I ever had with the bar. One thing I've like with the DBs is that when I start fatiguing on a set of strick bench press, I can bring my elbows into my chest and throw up a few more reps and hit my triceps a bit.

When it comes to Chest I have found switching to Dumbells has been more beneficial from a shoulder perspective. I have less shoulder stress and potential injury (I haven't injured my shoulder like I used to do with the barbell). Finally, for safety reasons, using dumbells for bench when you're alone is far safer if you push to "failure".

Dumbbells are great. They build additional stability. The barbell has much more stability on its own so you'll be missing out while using it. However, for some very heavy lifts or generally unstable lifts you should use a barbell for safety and confidence in your lift.

One great benefit with dumbbells for me is that you can work on your imbalances. I have bigger left arm (tricep), so when bench-pressing with barbell my right arm can be lacking if I am not 100% focused. With Dumbbells, you always work them separately + you need a lot more focus.

the reason why dumbells are feel harder to lift than barbells even when they are the same weight is because with dumbells you need to introduce alot more control when lifting them up whereas with barbells it is a much more robotic and simple movement. for instance when you lift up a barbell in a bench press you simply use your two arms to push up a weight and bring it back down, in a dumbell bench press you grab one in each hand and then have to control them as you move them upwards and downwards making it more difficult.

The real answer is. Whatever feels good for you and works for your body. DB feels better for me on some lifts. BB feels better for me on some lifts. Do what's best for you and stay consistent!

@alexandermileski2579 5 жыл бұрын
Will Cummings III very true, but you don’t necessarily have to stay consistent in the sense that you can’t switch between them. Mixing it up by switching between BB and DB may benefit you. But like you said, do what feels best.

You know, i've never particularly liked the barbell, or felt comfortable with that, and i recently decided to practice all the exercises with dumbells, since i'm also much interested in train both the parts of the body evenly, while with the barbell i feel the stronger side is always "helping" the other and not stabilyzing as a whole. I thought i was a black swan, so this video is reassuring and refreshing STAY BUFF!

Ricky Chiz Bizkit they aren’t easier though... that’s why you can’t lift as much weight. However barbells are way better for lower body.
@shaloon64
@shaloon64 5 жыл бұрын
@@doitformazi2347 yea I agree they're not easier I worded that statement poorly. I meant they are easier to feel and look strong when doing say, incline or flat db bench. For the average gym goer, 80-90lb dumbells make you look quite strong, but that same person may only bench 175-185 with the barbell for the same working sets (not impressive). That was the scenario I was in years ago, feeling strong with dumbells but weak with a barbell (I was using 90-100lb dumbells but barely hitting 225 with a barbell). Also, please explain to why barbell is better suited for the lower body. What about bench, ohp, and rows?
@doitformazi2347
@doitformazi2347 5 жыл бұрын
Ricky Chiz Bizkit I just have seen a lot more results using dumbbells over barbells for chest press and overhead press. Barbell Rows, I agree, they are pretty good, I don’t usually do dumbbell rows, but either works for that. And I just feel like squatting with a barbell is much more convenient than lugging two barbells up on your shoulders and squatting. I feel ya tho dude. I just think dumbbells make you stronger in the upper body. You can reach your full potential without ever needing a spotter

Man, what a turkey I feel like. Had a knee injury 5 years ago and slowly built up my leg strength again over 3 years doing barbell squats. But hit a plateau because I only have a home gym and couldn't safely get the bar above my shoulders to squat. Didn't even think about using Dumbells. Would activate all sorts of other stabilizer muscles to strengthen the knees and legs in other ways. Thanks Buff Dudes!!!

Whenever I do barbell bench I definitely feel more emphasis on my front delts as opposed to dumbbell presses; that's why if I've hit shoulders recently and want to hit chest I usually avoid barbell presses and do dumbbells, otherwise my shoulders will get fatigued way to quickly and I won't be able to bench as much; definitely feels more comfortable for me!

Dumbells. Individual accountability PLUS the way the dumbells have more freedom makes it closer to a natural workout. I experimented with both and found that dumbells were more difficult but they also built better functional and better looking muscle.
