I’ve heard a story of an extremely dumb robbery. Two or three guys tried to rob a shop (one had a firearm) in the morning and when the demanded the money the shop keeper replied I don’t have much to rob if you come around closing time I’ll have more. So they left the store empty handed, but later around closing time they returned but this time the police were there waiting and both assailants were arrested.

I’ve got one from one of my mom’s coworkers: My mom’s coworker has a son who works at a local gas station. The dumb criminal broke in through the roof, stole (amongst other things) some lottery tickets, left his hat behind, and got caught when he returned to cash them in.

One of my favorite moments of criminal stupidity was a man who followed two others into a bar as he put a ski mask on with the intent of robbing the bar, not knowing that the men he followed and the rest of the bar patrons were off duty police officers.

Butt dialing 911: This actually happened to me when I was in college. Somehow, the button on my phone would click, turning it on. While on, the touch screen somehow accepted the cloth of my pocket facing my leg as me touching it and hit "Emergency Call". After it called an operator, my phone hung up on them. The operator then called me back, which I answered. Both of us were seriously confused. I later got a phone case, preventing me from accidentally calling the police ever again.

The play money thief reminds me of something that happened when I worked in a charity shop a few years ago. We sold everything from jewellery to furniture, donated by patrons and members of tbe public. One day, we put a sofa for sale on display in the shop and, as often unexpected treasures are found behind sofa cushions, we had a quick check for spare change for the collection box. We were surprised to find what we first thought was a £10 note, but this turned to disappointment when closer inspection revealed it to be play money - an Early Learning Centre £50 note, to be exact. Instead of throwing it away, I left it on the counter near the till, just to see if temptation got the better of any of our customers (who, on the whole, were lovely people - but there are bad elements in any community, especially as a local pharmacy ran a methodone drop in centre just two doors down from us). Happily, the first three or four people who found the banknote were kind and honest enough to point it out and hand it over, lest it got into undeserving hands, which really made me feel positive. Then, just after lunch a couple of the methodone lot came in, stoned out of their damaged little minds. One of them actually bought something (a cheap child's t-shirt costing less than a pound) and his companion spotted the fake money and said in an unashamedly loud, delighted voice "I'm having that!" (not sure if he was just plain ignorant and didn't care if his inner monologue was no longer private, or what) and his dirty greedy fingers snatched up the fake money and it was in one of his pockets (I must add at this point that the fake money was folded in half to.hide the Early Learning Centre logo and at first glance looked just like a legitimate bank note). I pretended not to notice this blatant opportunist act - well, it wasn't technically theft as such - and said nothing as the druggies walked out of the shop. I just imagined the look on the face of their dealer later on that day as they tried to pay for their filthy drugs with toy money :)

The police arrived, following my call to them, after my car had been damaged when another car hit it in the apartment parking lot in Wood River, Illinois. I told the officer that my neighbor had hit my car with his. The officer asked how I could be so sure if I didn't see it happen. I pointed to the ground which showed fresh snow from the night before and tire tracks going to the damaged part of my car, backing up, and then parking right next to me where the car remained. The officer agreed with my assessment of the situation and proceeded to try and get my neighbor, who was refusing to answer the door, to speak with him. The officer happened to know the offending driver's father and called him saying that if his son did not call him in two minutes he would be going to jail. Less than a minute later the officer was able to speak to my neighbor who claimed that he didn't remember hitting my car (possibly due to being intoxicated at the time). Fortunately, failing to remember a crime does not absolve one of the crime.

Here's one for you: I live in what is called a duplex, there's a front unit and a back unit, these are unattached with a small lawn between. The back unit, where I live, has about a 12 foot wide dirt strip from my unit's back wall to a fence, there is a 6 foot tall, scrubby, "privacy" hedge planted along the length, and up against the fence. Beyond that is a huge heavy equipment storage lot. The neighbors in the front unit are into growing herbs and vegetables, I let them put some of their big pots in my part of the yard. I live alone since my wife died and I don't use my rented part of the yard for anything. . . Win for them, no problem for me. So, on 12/20/19, I went to bed and everything was SSDD. The next morning, 12/21/19, I walked out of my bedroom and glanced into the second bedroom, from my front bedroom door I can see out of the back bedroom window and I always check for a basic idea of the weather. Someone had built a greenhouse in front of that back window sometime in the night. I really didn't expect that. A NOTE HERE: I live in Oregon. The State law allows people to grow a maximum of four marijuana plants on their own property for personal use only. If you rent, you need written permission from the property owner to grow on the owner's property. Perfectly reasonable. Also, these plants MUST be adequately secured from access by children. Just having your crop accessible to children constitutes something like Child Endangerment. If a child harvests your crop, and gets busted, it's treated the same as you selling children pot in the schoolyard. . . Felony. . . Again, perfectly reasonable. OK, BACK TO THE STORY. So, I find this greenhouse, obviously hidden, behind my unit (right at the corner, with easy access from my side yard) and built after dark. Because I mentioned the Oregon laws above, you already know what I figured out instantly. Someone is really, really stupid. There were no plants in the greenhouse, so i decided, that as yet, no harm done. I'll give whomever forty eight hours to contact me and discuss this brilliant "plan". Also, giving myself time to simmer down. NO CONTACT. I had been thinking about this...Obviously...And debated between calling the cops or the landlord. Still no plants, but if any appeared, it was going to be cops. So I called the landlord. This landlord is a middle aged, Middle Eastern man, and a really great landlord. I asked him if he had given anyone permission to build a greenhouse in the yard I was renting, he was stunned, he said no, but it must belong to the couple in the front unit. He drove right over (this was a Sunday). I took him to the unused back bedroom and pointed out the window, he was at a total loss for words. Since it was a cheap thing with a metal frame and a transparent plastic tarp covering, he said hopefully, maybe the wind blew it there? He already knew my answer, but I said highly unlikely, but why is it hidden? I pointed out, if it's theirs, there is plenty of room directly behind their front unit and that location allows access to their power and water for fans and drip irrigation. (He was really trying hard to paint the whole thing with innocence, I really respected that. He is no obtuse hothead.) But I finally brought him back to Earth. I said "IF IT"S EVEN THEIRS", and it was their intention to grow marijuana, and they were aware of the Oregon laws, they had some insurmountable problems. I pointed out the laws above: Owners permission required, in writing; BY LAW. Not fully secured from neighborhood children; High probability of eviction, fines, and/or jail time. And the whole thing was doomed to failure from day one. Their ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT PLAN was to dump all this on ME. If their BRILLIANT PLAN failed, by having THEIR greenhouse in MY backyard, I'd get busted...NOT THEM! PURE GENIUS!!! The landlord said he would talk to them, he wasn't a happy camper. I didn't hear the exchange, but it didn't go well for the couple in the front unit. I heard the woman from the front unit ranting the next day to another neighbor about how I TRIED TO GET THEM EVICTED! The following day I found the torn to pieces greenhouse dumped in my side yard, and there, as of today, 1/26/20, it still sits. The landlord is pretty consciences about looking after his property, he won't be happy seeing that debris scattered over his property. Whatever he chooses to do about it will, of course, be MY fault. As i see it, either they combine forces and find two working brain cells to rub together, or get evicted. Meanwhile, I'm the mean, cruel bad guy. This couple are in their mid to late thirties, no children, I'm 68. IS THAT STUPID ENOUGH FOR AT LEAST HONORABLE MENTION? And I have no doubt the story isn't over. A KEY FACT I LEFT OUT, there's a store about ten minutes driving time away where you can buy all the weed you want, several different varieties. Perfectly legal, no questions asked.

The cashier rushed over screaming "you can't do that!", to which one of us replied "We just did." She rushed off to call campus security, the ashtray broke, and everyone but me took off. I put the fire out with a textbook, dumped the evidence in the trash, stepped out to the patio, put my hair up, pulled my glasses off, and sat down with my nose in a book. Here in Chile there was once a guy who wanted to rob a house, so he used the chimney to get inside. Obviously, because he is not santa, he got stuck in there for hours before police and a rescue team reach for him. The best part? The house was abandoned, completely empty, and without any lock, so he could simply just open the door.

@@user-ei4yp3qf3l There's a police department that has a form that drug dealers can fill out to report their competition. The biggest marijuana grow field bust that Dallas DEA ever made was a direct result of a DEA office worker looking out his office window with a pair of borrowed binoculars. After putting out a fire in a house used to grow marijuana, a fire fighter being treated for smoke inhalation was interviewed by a local news crew. His only comment was "That was a LOT of smoke".

I've heard stories from one my uncle's that used to rob houses to support a drug addiction about robberies that went wrong and the one where he actually got caught and charged was halarious much he hid inside the closet in a downstairs bedroom for a hour when the home owner came home early. He got caught attempting to sneak out while she was in the kitchen the cops had already come and checked the house too and didn't find him the first time. You can look it up his name is Steven and the robberies took place in VT.

There’s a bit of a rumour that states that tip-toeing around actually does nothing to make you quieter. It just makes you slower and easier for police to spot because no one normally walks like that and it serves little to no functional purpose. Just thought you might be interested to know that. There was also the heartwarming case of a woman in London who was robbed. She had cameras in the house, and she saw that before the suspect left, he had fed the cats. She begged the police to let her talk to him so she could ask why, he said that he loves animals, and was sorry for robbing her, but he was homeless and starving. He’s now on his third or fourth year of veterinary medicine student at the vet the woman owns. Goes to show that not all who do bad things are bad people, they’re just in bad situations.

Which one surprised me the most? Not one surprised me in the least. Unfortunately, I have been "a victim" of an incredibly stupid criminal. I was working at a game store called Microplay in 1996 when a man walked into my store grabbed two Sega Saturn display boxes while declaring "I'll take these!" to which I replied "knock yourself out dumbass." Thankfully, that was just the preamble to his immensely stupid act... He returned to my store a few hours later attempting to return two Sega Saturns. He claimed we sold him empty boxes and he wanted his Sega Saturn's. I immediately took to the task of setting this whole situation right by telling him we take them out of the box to test them. I then got him to wait in the store while we "repackaged" them for him. My employee went to the back and called the police who promptly came by and gave him a free pair of silver bracelets. What's really funny is he thought he was only getting charged for stealing two empty boxes...while his intent was to steal $800 worth of merchandise. Yes, I pressed charges. ;)

I’ve got a story! Ok so my brother’s bike got stolen at a train station a bit up the hill by our house and we reported it and everything. We were planning on buying him a new one but after a week or 2, my brother spotted a kid riding his bike around our block while he was buying milk. We immediately called the police and the teens were taken home and my brother got his bike back. Edit: His bike got stolen again 😑 Edit 2: Ok so please calm down some of you because it was in the train station’s designated area for bikes and you need a pass to get in there. We also used a stronger lock with a nine digit code. So I don’t know why some of you think it’s our fault it got stolen again.

Had 2 local incidents by idiots that obviously wanted to go to prison. 1 was a bank robber that walked home after the hold up dragging his feet through 6 inches of fresh powder. The police followed his trail 2 blocks to his front door. The other in another small town 10 miles away walked up to a bank teller a friend from his graduating class, and shortly after the police were given detailed information about the robbers identity.

Reminds of a case some years ago of a wanted criminal on the run in the rural parts of the State of Himachal in India. He hitched a ride from a guy on a motorcycle to the nearest bus station. Instead the motorcyclist drove him straight to the police station. He was a policeman driving to the police station where he was headed anyway, and where he would change into his uniform. He recognised the hitchhiker from his description and mugshot which had been circulated in all the local police stations.

More than I can count actually. The one I could remember was 3 years ago. Somewhere between July I think. The story starts in late June, My town's power station blew up. It was supposed to take about 3 weeks to replace the transformer, but due to mass looting unrest that happened in two provinces(one of them happens to be where I live) the transformer was delayed from being transported which then delayed the repairs for another week. After 2 more weeks of repairs( July at this point) the transformer was fixed and we had our electricity back. So Then 2 or so Joes, came out of nowhere and tried their luck trying to steal the wires cables and sell them off for profit. For some reason they failed miserably and one of the guys got electrocuted to the point where his bag and clothes melted to his skin. When the security officers asked him what's his name and who are his other buddies, he then kept pacing off up and down trying to avoid their questions. When he was asked who he was working for he said Julius Malema(A politician). Now we've had a lot of Cable theft incidents and a few hilarious fails. But this one was funnier than the rest

OMG!! 3 in a bed!! We dealt with a crime family when living in Ashland NH named the Trombleys. The wife was reportedly the brains of the family, which basically equated to zero brain cells amongst all of them!! LOL!! The husband stole our work van and robbed a store in broad daylight. He and the friends he had piled into our work van were caught shortly after the police reviewed the store footage. So what did they steal on this crime spree you ask?? A drink valued under $3 of course!! Upon being pulled over the husband looked at the cop and said, "I have drugs in my pockets by the way!" The cops later told me they were impressed by his honesty and cooperation!! Not dumb enough for you yet? It gets dumber!! The wife gets mad about her husband being caught and immediately calls me at my company phone number. She proceeds to scream at me saying her husband's arrest and conviction are all my fault. How is it my fault you ask? Well, apparently she thinks I was fully aware her husband was going to steal my work van and that I not only allowed him to do so but I also put the drugs in his pockets to get him in trouble!! Alrighty then!! Sounds like a nice airtight alibi! Still not dumb enough for you? The wife just went to jail because she was pulled over and drug dealers were in her car with her. She told the arresting officers she never met those people in her life and that they had called her cell phone and asked her for a ride!! So where did they find her cell phone number to call her with and why were drugs in her purse if she is anti-drug and doesn't know these people? Simple, the people she never met before in her life that were in her vehicle with her planted the drugs in her purse to get her in trouble!! Still, need more? It gets better!! Her sister mugged a person in Meredith NH and so she puts on line how horrible this random criminal is and she hopes they find her soon and throw the book at her! Many people responded to her FB post saying, "Isn't that your sister?" She took the post down very soon after! LMAO!! Oh, but it gets better!! She used to rent from me before I found out what kind of piece of work she and her family are. She refuses to pay rent and eviction papers are filed. I go into the house to access the vast amounts of damage she and her cronies did. Inside are drug paraphernalia and things I was told were stolen from people I knew in the neighborhood! I call the police and they remove those items. What does she do? She files charges in court against me for stealing her belongings! I went to court and explained to the judge that all the drug paraphernalia and items she stole from area residents were not stolen by me at all and that all of it was safe and sound at the police station and she could pick it up anytime she wanted! The judge turned lots of colors as steam came out of his ears!! Case dismissed!! But she wasn't done with me in court! She wanted her junk car back she abandoned on my property so her husband tried to remove it in the dead of night even though he only had legal permission to remove it in broad daylight with police present! He was caught and told police he was merely going to drive it home. Well, it wasn't registered so criminal trespassing and attempting to drive an unregistered vehicle was added to his laundry list!! This made the wife mad so back to court where the judge explained that, since she refused to follow legal avenues to retrieve the car, the car now belonged to me. I went back, opened up the car, and found my mom's eBay stuff in the car!! eBay stuff with my mom's name clearly written on the packages!! Call the police and press charges for attempted theft as they stole my mom's stuff and were attempting to remove it from my property in the guise of an abandoned car that belonged to them originally. The husband then calls and yells at me saying I have no right to steal his things from that vehicle. I decided to play his wife's card and pretend to be the dumb one. I respond, "OMG!! I'm so sorry!! I was fully unaware that you had a sex change and had changed your name to a female name. I saw the female name on the eBay boxes and just assumed it was my mom's name as that is the same name as her!! I hope you are not offended by me sounding so insensitive to your recent sex change!!" Click!! He hung up!! Attempt to get the items they stole from my mom back failed so the wife became enraged and so they had their friend Kirk break into my company calendar to see where I would be and when. Once they thought no one would be around they broke into my house. It was a hot night and no air conditioner so they brought refreshments along. They needed light so they took my painter's tape and my trash bags and taped the bags to the window to cover the light. Sounds genius right? Wrong!! Fingerprints all over the trash bags and painter's tape!! DUH!! Not to mention the DNA and fingerprints on their refreshments and the fact that the refreshments were store brand so could be traced to the store they were purchased from!! Trying to explain why their fingerprints were on garbage bags and tape I myself had purchased proved to be difficult for both the wife and the husband!! LMAO!! Trying to explain why their friend Kirk was downloading my Google calendar to them proved even harder for them to explain away!! The moral to this story I'm sharing? Some criminals simply will never get it right and will simply never smarten up!! It seems this crime family is destined to be forever dumb!! Oh, by the way, they abandoned their dog in my house and then told police he wasn't in fact abandoned as they were coming back for him when I intervened by going in the house and finding him there!! They acted like I didn't have the right to be there and were offended by the fact I showed up and had the audacity to go in my own house!! How dare I!! LMAO!! Not to mention, if you stop and think about it, they literally just admitted to the police they were coming back!! LMFAO!!

If you are doing a part 2 of this, here's one Once, two robbers robbed a French McDonald's with a shot gun (they fired it at the ceiling and told everyone to get down) but, little did they know, they did it in front of two off duty GIGN units. GIGN is an anti-terroism team (like SWAT teams but well trained). The units waited until the robbers leave as to not hurt any civilians. When the robbers left after stealing €2000 ($2154.52 USD), the units got out too and chased the two robbers and got one, but the other tried shooting at the two GIGN units, one of the units gave him a nutrilizing shot to the belly. He was sent to the hospital. Luckily he made a full recovery, but unlucky for him, he got sent to jail.

You read this correctly, someone tried freeing a tank full of highly flammable substances is a tight, pressurized area. Obviously, the sparks landed on the tank and burned through, the man was hurt but he didn't die and the cops found him with two broken legs and a broken welding torch, nobody else was caught up in the blast. He had a partner, but the partner ran away before the explosion as he realized it was a terrible idea

This reminds me of one I heard on Americas Dumbest Criminals way back in the nineties. I remember it after so long because it was so funny. At a prison on a very cold day the guards were having some coffee. When they heard a lot of banging on the front door to the prison. When they opened the door a man came bursting in and said he just broke out of the prison and because it's so cold he wants to come back in. So the guards let him back in and he got an extra ten years added on to his sentence for breaking out of jail.

this reminds me of when there was a fire at a special home for youth and young adults who need extra support in everyday life during high school that I lived in from 2016 to 2021. one late evening in March 2017, I and other schoolchildren who lived in the accommodation were woken up by the fire alarm having been triggered and the entire stairwell was full of fire smoke. everyone who lived in the accommodation came out and no one was hurt and those who took care of us thought it was an electrical cable that had started to spontaneously combust but I felt that this was not done by an electrical cable but someone trying toset fire to the residence and my instincts were right someone was trying to burn the residence down. the police had found a mattress that someone had set fire to in a south room that didn't even have a light on and they had no idea who or who it was so about a month later it happened again. but this time the police had caught two people smiling behind bars. but those people weren't that smart. the first fire they sat outside the residence and laughed and the second time they did the same thing as the police arrested them a man and a woman and the rest is history.

My house got robbed and they snorted my dads pain meds, stole a bunch of our guns and my brothers math book but since they snorted pills, they wrecked down the road from us and obviously ended up going to jail pretty quickly 😂

A few years back a suspect escaped from a city police car. Ran down the street and entered a building to hide. The problem was.... the building was a Sheriff station.

I'm imagining him running (or trying to run) with the big ATM machine you see at banks and I'm wondering if that's accurate.

"Somewhere in a CIA back office, agent Peter Enis sits waiting long and hard and patiently to this day for his new recruit. Wonder what's taking her so long?" I'm guessing she must be somewhere in a beautiful metal box that keeps her good and clean, and not to mention, super comfy... XD ROFLMFAO

Some decades ago here in Finland one hunter was annoyed that his forest cabin was emptied by the burglars couple of times. So he put some bear traps inside his cabin. Using bear traps outdoors is illegal here in Finland but using them indoors was OK then because that was not hunting. A criminal broke the window of the cabin, injured himself with the bear traps but unfortunately the injuries were so bad that he died. And because the window was broken some animals entered the cabin and ate the corpse of the criminal. That was probably too cruel punishment for the burglar but at least the cabin owner did not do anything wrong. :D

What? Is it too much of a stretch to understand that every cellphone is actually a tracking device? The phone company can track your actual position within about 10 feet, in real time.

We used to live on a farm, and one night our dinner was rudely interrupted by a very drunk intruder. My dad chased him away, and he fell into a hole that my brother and I had dug to make an underground fort. He couldn't climb out, so my father left him there until the police arrived.

Well done for showing the Australian ones. You got the driving wheel on the right side and called it the Magistrates Court which was also correct.
