Dumbest Dress Codes I've Ever Seen

I'm back! (sorry you guys had to get used to this awful upload schedule)
This video is about the 3 worst dress codes I've ever had. Now that i think about it- a lot of awful dress codes are from middle schools ._.
Thank you all so so much for helping get my new laptop! This is a HUGE deal for me. My old laptop was making the video making process much slower and harder. But now I can finally edit and post whenever I feel like it!!

My high school had the same "no jackets around waist" rule, but it was never specified on the rule books... SO whenever a teacher got mad at me I just pointed out that fact and did it SO MUCH all the staff gave up.

I remember that in first grade (Russian school, mind you) the school staff decided to give all of the kids that are in same class the same uniform: the one that i was in had a shapeless, sleeveless "dress" for girls/west with the schools name and emblem and only the west for boys and oh, god it was awful. We weren't allowed to wear anything on top of it if it covered the emblem, and im sure that the whole world is aware on how cold it can get in winter in Russia especially. This held up right until we got to the 5th grade (the point where kids transition into middle school in the same school), when for some reason dress-code disappeared and everyone wore what they wanted to (still being reasonable tho). We were reprimanded by the staff still, but it wasnt all that serious And now in college they want us to wear formal wear and short hair for men, tied up hair for woman. Some guy was reprimanded right infront of everyone for wearing his long hair up with a makeup head band (the fluffy one with the ears) and asked to take it off. Man, like, we're all 18 and over here, plus we're in a BUILDING college, let my guy have his hair up if he wants to keep it long. It does no harm for him nor the college. Oh and admin staff often looks at me weirdly for my bright blue hair (im a 'manly' woman who likes blue, yup)

I’m honestly glad that my school has a really free dress code of just, “don’t show your private parts and don’t have clothes that have the n word on it” (though some kids wear straight up bras to school) I read on reddit once about someone’s school that made their dress code just, “wear the school’s merch”

My school has a uniform(Wich the dress for girls was very uncomfortable. I'm NEVER wearing it again) but we also have a dress code wich yeah it's pretty much what you said like no revealing private parts. But if you said the 'n' word no staff member will know what that means, cause i live in a country where english is not a second or first language it's whole other language. But don't take the risk, you still might get caught. But for some reason we are not allowed to wear ripped jeans. Wich is just dumb. But everything else is allowed you can have crazy hair, make-up, shoes, etc. But also you don't have to wear your unfiform as long as the colour of the clothes is dark that you are wearing. And sort of just prove the school allows hair colours, i have coloured hair in a lavender colour(wich is not as visible but you can still see that it's not bleached) wich is coloured in that sort of way when i have my hair in a braid it makes this spiral type look, wich looks really cool and it's very visible. And no one has said anything about my hair and there are alot of other girls in my class with coloured hair, one of the girls even has galaxy type coloures, and the staff has never said anything. But i still hate school uniforms with a PASSION!

But i have uniforms, wich they look a bit depressing. But i like dark colours, and you can just not wear them as long as your clothes are dark. So as someone who goes to a private school and doesn't have a uniform, I'm very proud of the dress code that we have. We are allowed to wear tank tops (yes even cropped) we are allowed to wear skirts past our knees we can have bob cuts etc. The only thing that I don't like about it is that we are not allowed to wear shirts with Disney or smth like that on it. What's funny is that back when I attended high school, girls didn't have a problem with the dress code for the usual reasons was because they would actually make sure they were just as enforced with the boys. If a girl couldn't wear a skirt too short, neither could a boy wear pants too short. And what's more, they made sure they were reasonable. Again, when it came to shorts/skirts, they didn't choose to go by whether or not it was below the knee, but instead, if it was below or above where your fingers can reach down, not too far from your knees. And if it was only slightly or even a bit more above your fingers, they didn't take it too seriously. That kind of reasonable attitude and way of thinking led to very few issues with the dress code in my school. Sorry if this comment was too long! 😂

In primary you get green shorts and boys get .... forgot But for secondary omg I hate this rule GIRLS HAVE F4NG SKIRTS!! I honestly feel bad for you. My 2 schools weren't very strict, and the only rules either of them had was 'no skirts or shorts above underwear' and no 't-shirts with sexual or violence propaganda'. The only rules in that school I really hated was 'no carrying backpacks around in middle school' (I had multiple classes HALFWAY across the campus, and it was a REAL pain to walk all the way back) and 'no bringing things into the cafeteria'(Which was pretty much the same, I had to run all the way back from the cafeteria, which was on the opposite side of the school, to put my stuff back because the teacher didn't allow it. Yes! I went to a school that had multiple of these things! We weren’t allowed to have our hair down, but it was less strict than yours. We were allowed to wear it however we wanted as long as it was tied up lol. We also weren’t allowed to have our jackets tied around our waists and had to wear ties. Bearing in mind, I would’ve been around eight to nine at this time; it was the most uncomfortable thing ever! Glad others have had the same experiences 😭😂

The more i hear your story, the more I'm convinced that we both attend the same school because of how STUPIDLY strict the dresscode is: -Limited hair style (Check) (Girls had like 3 and boy had like 2) -Say no no to dye dye (check) -Your hair is longer than 3 inches?! TO THE OFFICE YOU GO!! (check) Luckily they didn't have the jacket rule, because it was constantly sunny most of the year and teachers didn't want the student to all get severe cases of sunburn. So, once I showed up in a baby Yoda t-shirt. The counselor looked at me, pointed at me, looked at my mom and said: ‘This is a problem.’ And obviously my mom was confused. And then they went on to explain about their dress code. When they didn’t even tell her what it was. And then once I did get my uniform. Which was just a baggy grey shirt made by the school. The problem was: my first day there was the day before quarantine hit. And once I started attending the online classes. I was wearing pajama pants, with a comfy sweater. And when I got the zoom call up and ready. My teacher looked at me and said: “You need to be in dress code at home.” Which really ticked off my mother.*

As someone going to the same school franchise, I basically have recolor uniforms every 2-3 years. The only thing we’re allowed to express if we don’t have a free dress pass, are jewelry, painted nails, and hairstyle. But also, just it’s nice knowing I don’t have to think of what to wear every day.

I live in the UK and the school I went to also had insane dress codes, our uniform consisted of a white shirt, black pants or skirt, a black blazer and a tie, the teachers would go on a rant if our shirts weren't buttoned up all the way, if our shirts weren't tucked in or if we weren't wearing our blazer or tie (some students would often lose their ties and would have to pay £5 for a new one). When the weather was boiling hot, we still had to wear our black blazers.

Going to a Swedish school means literally no dress code, for the most part. The only thing you have to keep in mind at most schools is that it’s school appropriate, and a lot of the time kids get away with wearing very revealing clothes. They only really care if there are very bad words or something on the clothes, and or if you’re basically naked. So we get complete free will, we can wear what we want, have our hair as we want and everything else as we want. (Maybe about 97% of the school dress code in most Swedish schools is literally “do whatever you want.”) The only time/s (at my school) that people have had problem with hair is when it’s home economics or science lab, then you HAVE to put you’re hair up if it’s long.

I remember in the middle school, a teacher wants my hair become shorter and shorter because a teacher and the other teachers want to see my short hair looks like. After my hair cut, my hair looks like a boy's hair. My middle/highschool had the strictest dress codes I'd ever witnessed (they were obsessed with their public image) - If your hair could be tied up it had to ALWAYS be tied up even when outside the school (if in uniform) - because of this, students either had really short hair (that couldn't be tied up) or the generic tied up / braid hair. I tied up my hair so much that my friends could recognise me just from the ponytail... - Jackets around the waist were a big no but they were an even BIGGER NO when leaving the school. If you were leaving the school at the end of the day and you had your jacket around your waist they would tell you to either wear it properly or put it in your bag - All shoes had to be black with shoelaces and spotless without any damage (sport shoes were not allowed to be worn unless it was during PE) - Socks had to be either white, black, or dark blue. Any other colour was not allowed - Bracelets, rings, and necklaces of any kind were not allowed to be worn unless they weren't visible (you can't really hide anything but the necklace though). I had once tied a ribbon around my hand like a bracelet and while walking through the halls I was immediately told to remove it cause it wasn't allowed and that it would get taken from me if I didn't. (...it was just a plain ribbon) - If you wore your sports uniform on a non-sports day you would immediately get in trouble - You had to wear the school jacket, any other jacket was not allowed - If you came to school with a bag that wasn't the school bag (with school emblem) you'd be in trouble - The school had very generic trousers for the winter sports uniform that were basically one colour with no indication that it was from that specific school. Even so, if you were caught wearing other trousers you would be in trouble - If it was winter (meaning girls had to wear black or dark blue pantyhose with their dresses) and for some reason the weather was hot (some type of heatwave going on) we would get in trouble for wearing our summer uniform instead (or/including no pantyhose). I saw girls melting in the sun or getting in trouble many times due to this - In general if you weren't wearing the FULL correct school uniform you were in trouble

As a prefect in my school, it's totally relatable to me and what's worse in my school is that we even have the limitations to girls' hair tie options, hair clip options, and even have a specific measuring accessory to measure your hair just in case if it has gone through the rules or not, which is pretty much really unnecessary but a strict rule against the students' hair. I guess our headmaster or whoever made these rules just think that "it's not a fashion show, kid, you're in school."

This is accurate, you could have been in minority junior and high schools in Japan. The uniform inspectors actually check you have white socks and undies, you’ll be sent home to change. You have to wear a uniform to private school, which is highly serious business. They also measure your skirts for the girls, males can’t even have messy hair or colored hair. Cutting your skirt short will be a huge risky decision that you could ever make. Japanese schools are even stricter and stressful, it’s not for everyone. American schools are not disciplined or teachers aren’t trained properly to teach, American school system is designed to fail and manipulate students, while Japanese schools are designed to actually teach and discipline students early on. Japanese schools doesn’t have janitors, Japanese students actually clean, cook, and serve others which I was taught. American schools have janitors, and they aren’t even appreciated enough for their work for keeping the school clean, American students are spoiled and not even disciplined. I noticed a huge difference between two countries education system, teachers in America are trained to brainwash, manipulate, and control them. While schools in Japan actually teach and discipline kids with actual knowledge and life experience. Kids in America aren’t taught properly to clean and treat others like fellow humans, kids in America actually dump their trash on the ground so the custodians can clean it up for them. My American teacher actually said, “the blue vain carries urine, while the red vain carries the blood”, which I got into trouble for correcting him and got suspended from school because it. Japanese schools actually teach to clean, cook, exercise, serve food to others, help others with stuff. If you don’t make your bed in the dorm, everyone in the dorm has to do it again until you get it right. Everything has to be straight, if it isn’t the teacher actually throws your blankets out of your bed. Japanese teachers aren’t to joke around, they’re very strict and I do mean like extreme standards.

1. Many Japanese schools have a janitor, but parents must pay an extra fee so the janitor won't work for free. Janitors in America are paid by the government, not by employer. 2. Oh, if you think that only American education system is fucked up, I recommend you to visit my country Russia. Russian schools have strict rules and dress codes, but many children also throw trash everywhere, organise bullying, break the toilets and school property. I don't say all Russian pupils are the same, but many of them act like this. Some of them are "good" on the surface but they're actually sneaky gremlins who have a hobby to break rules when nobody sees them (it gives them some kind of adrenaline). Or some of them are uncotrollable monsters who abuse other children and provoke teachers to conflicts. Some of them are addicted to booze, vape, cigarettes and other destructing stuff: One time, when I was going home from school and decided to pass my house, to buy some soft beverage, I saw my male classmates drinking Baltika beer and smoking. Literally behind my Soviet-built block-of-flats. My house was so close to the school, it took me 5 minutes to be there. Any school employee leaving the territory could see them, but they didn't give a damn. You maybe think it was in rural area, but no, it was in Moscow :D 3. Some Russian teachers are also huge "patriots" + can be very religious, they also brainwash and force children to believe in what they say, children and their parents will be punished and bullied, if they don't please the system. F.e., I had a Psychology teacher in college, which told us, that: "women will never be professional cooks, because it's their responsibility to cook, and they do it every day without enthusiasm, while men put soul in any dish they make". She was a woman in her 60s. Or a Social Science teacher, which forced us to believe that "people still exist on insticts, I'm right and nobody can prove otherwise" (my father, a former Biology teacher and a laboratory assistant at a research institute, would be flabbergasted if he heard this nonsense)

American are designed to fail, American teachers let bullies literally murder other students. I actually survived multiple times by my bullies, I’ve almost been thrown off the balcony, and had a gun to the head. When I fought back to defend myself from my bullies, I got suspended from school because of the “zero tolerance policy” which the rule doesn’t imply to bullies. If I didn’t defend myself or elbowed the bully in the face when he tried to throw me off the balcony, I would be dead. So yeah, schools now days aren’t to learn anymore, now to them it’s about brainwashing, control, manipulation, and break down your dreams. To me the world is broken, bullies/evil are always seen as good, while good/innocent people suffer from it. Schools are designed to break down the students dreams, and mold them their way. Because a caged mind is more easily manipulated than a caged body, that’s why we’re all depressed. Everyone including the bullies are depressed, because of our schools and governments doing, they have divided us and taught us to hate one another. I am not like these people. my school didn’t even give me a diploma because I wasn’t easily manipulated like the others, so I got the GED(General Education Diploma) instead, to me the high school diploma shows that you are easily manipulated by society and people, that means you can’t even think for yourself, or even survive without being told by the government. I gotten the GED because that shows I have the basic knowledge, no one told me to get it, I wanted to get it because I wanted to do it. I wasn’t letting my teachers teach me some very specific nonsense, I didn’t even let them break me or manipulate me. So I didn’t even thought of hating anyone, I don’t put anyone down to gain popularity, instead I picked them up instead. Teachers are brainwashing people to hate one another because of race, gender, religion, etc. I’m not like them, I love everyone and every country. It’s our Governments, schools, and society fault for tearing us apart, do not blame the people. I love the world, I hope we all get together and make peace and accept that we are different, but we are one race, the human race living with other creatures. If you really want to hate, do not blame it on the people in school, blame it all the way on our Government, Schools board and teachers. Teachers are nothing but puppets for the Government, they are there to maintain and listen to what the Governments wants, not what you want. Do not be fooled into thinking that the schools are helping, they are using you. For the cigarettes and the vodka you mentioned, American kids actually Vape, smocking crack, drug dealings, illegal drugs, steroids, pot, and getting high. While teachers are groping minors including actually doing some specific things to their students, I had caught one of my elementary teacher doing something very nasty to his student and doing something very inappropriate with the year book, which had white spots on his year book. Let’s just say he did something what is against the law, while I exposed him with the minor which got him arrested. I would say something he would do to his student, but I would be demonetized if I say the specifics of what he’s done, but you get what I’m saying.

as someone who goes to a private school, this is EXTREMELY relatable. My dress code rules are (for girls): no “extremely” colored hair (if u wore extensions, it had to match ur hair color), no leggings, no tight fitting jeans, if ur gonna wear a skirt/dress it has to be below the knee, no crop tops, etc. and for the boys the dress code is: no long hair or extreme hairstyles and that’s basically it cuz everything else the boys can do without getting in trouble. But the MOST relatable one, for some reason,IS THE FACT THAT U CANT WEAR A JACKET AROUND YOUR WAIST. Like literally the other day my friend got in trouble for wearing a jacket around her waist 😭

Hey guys, a teacher here from Singapore, I did not think it was that bad actually. I would like to address some points here: 1. Ugly uniforms Uniforms are not to be fancy or pretty but to be practical. Your uniform looked quite like the uniforms we have in Singapore. The fabric is made light-weighted and quick, they are practical, unlike those fancy ones you see online. Not to mention, not having a lot of accessories reduces the time you spend in your room changing. The ones in fancy schools might be hotter for the entire day. Let me know what you think about those in school with that kind of clothing. 2. Hairstyles Hairstyles are supposed to be practical. Most of the time, girls with long hair would have trouble when their hair was down. And for the boys, bangs that cover their eyes will affect their learning trying to push it away. This also gives a way for how students not to need to think and worry when tying up their hair to try to make it look good. 3. White-coloured uniforms If you've taken physics you should know that white reflects heat. The colour is commonly used in my country as a uniform base colour as our climate is scorching. Although students might get it dirty, it would usually be washed off easily or if not, there will be still easily accessible uniforms. 4. Jackets For jackets around the waist, it would mean dirtying it when sitting down, and it would be considered as an accessory as you are not using the jacket for its main purpose. The public actually looks down on students and it will affect a school's reputation. “I don’t care what the public says.” Even so, society judges you in many ways so please be careful. For girls: There are other ways of hiding your accidents, you can turn your skirt around to the front and use a sling over bag to cover it. Another way is to bring an extra skirt to school near that time. 5. No jewellery, no make-up, no hair dye This might seem a stretch but you are representing your school in your uniform if you like it or not. Having heavy makeup and unnatural hair dye will make the school look like delinquents go there. “Why aren’t we allowed to express ourselves?” unfortunately, do you think you could express yourself even if you are an adult? I’m a teacher and I still have many strict dress codes to follow. This can impact the school and have their school reputation go down. To wrap it all up, Whether you like it or not, you are wearing your school uniform, you are representing the school. Though it might seem tough, HAVE YOU SEEN ASAIN SCHOOLS? I teach my kids and they were only allowed to wear ONE kind of hairstyle which is two braids and even stricter rules. But since we are used to them, it was normal for us. TL;DR I think that the school rules she mentioned were not dumb, they were preparing you for the future if you work in a company and you must watch what you do and wear since you are representing the school with your uniform.

If you want to express yourself, there are other ways of doing so, be creative and don't let only dress codes hold you back. My old school had the stupidest rules as well. The uniform was HIDEOUS, and during the summer kids would be sweating so much. It was terrible. No hair dye, no jewelry, certain hair styles, no nail polish (especially for the guys), certain shoe colours, certain sock colours, no sweaters (even school hoodies weren’t allowed) no hats, sweaters weren’t even allowed to be tied around your waist, and that’s all I can think of right now. At the end of the school year, the older grades started breaking and protesting against these rules (I was one of them), because even teachers didn’t agree with the rules. I don’t know if it worked or not, because I left, but hopefully they did.
