Austin is absolutely correct. The USB Superdrive is the oldest Apple product you can still purchase new. They brought it out in 2008 to go along with the launch of the MacBook Air. The device has seen no revisions or modifications since then. It is, at least, a quality drive; I've had mine for years and years and it still sits on top of my M1 Mac Mini ready to go
@matthewjbauer19902 жыл бұрын
If you count cables, the oldest Apple product you can get new is a 30 pin dock cable. It was released with the 1st USB iPod in 2003 whereas the Superdrive was released alongside the 1st Macbook Air in 2007
@johnnyvvlog Жыл бұрын
@@matthewjbauer1990 actually the 30 pin got revised from having little buttons on the side you had to push to unlock the connector to spring loaded pins. This also made the connector a lot less tall. Not sure when that happened but this might make the superdrive the actual oldest product still around.

Conspiracy theory: all USB SuperDrive that Apple is selling was made before 2016 and the reason they still keep it around is because they made way too many of them, because they predicted that people are gonna need it, but they were wrong, so they have to keep selling it until it ran out. Even though years have passed, they still have way too many in stock, so they just hope someone would come and buy them all up, so they could officially discontinue this product. Reminder: this is 100% made up. Don’t take it too seriously.

Apple should really stop selling EVERYTHING! Sure, much of their HARDWARE is decent, but they don't make ANY of the parts that make it good. They take OLD ideas from 4+ years ago, and tell the world they invented it. Kinda like Elon Musk did with the vacuum train that was invented over 100 years ago, and he called it a hyperloop. Not a single thing Apple does is innovative. It's recycled ideas from other companies in an ugly package. That last part is just my opinion. Some people might actually like their designs, but I can't stand the majority of their designs. Their operating systems _MUST_ die ASAP! There is nothing worse than MacOS or iOS for someone who actually knows how to use a computer. The only valid use case I can even imagine for an iphone is if they are supplied by an employer to spy on their employees and keep track of their location 24/7. I would never want to work for a company like that, but I know people who have, and they were given iphones because they couldn't spoof their GPS location. Ahh, the limitations of iOS just amaze me why ANYONE would ever even consider using it. Don't even get me started on MacOS. There is just too much wrong with it to even know where to begin.

Wikipedia agrees that the SuperDrive is the oldest item still being sold. But that must not be including cables, because you can still buy a 30-pin to USB (or 30 to VGA!!) cable/adapter. 30-pin to usb debuted in 2003(not sure if it was ever modified or not, and not sure when the vga adapter came out). The last product that could even use a 30-pin connection was discontinued 8 years ago. At least the SuperDrive has a use (though I agree, cost is too high for the limited use, throw a Blu-Ray laser in there, along with a usb-c adapter or cable so it can connect to modern macs and it’s appropriate.)

@@aninditabasak7694 correct. The last iPhone model that used it, stopped production in 2014(North America, 2016 in parts of the world), though. That’s where the “8 years ago” comes from. Also, the original model 30-pin used FireWire protocols primarily, not sure if they ever took that out of the spec, or if the FireWire is still buried somewhere in the spec, like if I come across an original model iPod, would a new 30-pin to usb work? Interesting thing to test 😂 (back in the day people talked about walking into a compusa with an iPod and snagging the software from a display mac over the FireWire connection, not sure if anyone ever actually did that, or just a mental exercise in forum posts)

8:05 So, I don't want to name the company themselves because their reasoning does kind of make sense, but I ran into this very issue at work not too long ago. Even worse, it was a stupid and common part that we needed for an item that had been discontinued a really long time ago but we needed a specific size and NO ONE ELSE sells that specific size of this part. We COULD just go pick up a normally-sized version, but then it wouldn't fit in the metal shell. The manufacturer didn't make the specific size of this part anymore because they didn't make the metal shell it came in anymore. What P-ed me off even more about this is that the device itself was clearly built so you can easily remove this part if it stops working and replace it with another.... sold by this company.... and ONLY this company... UGH!!!!! I did find it used on another site, but for some absolutely infuriating reason this site had removed any ability to "Add to cart" or "Buy it Now". WHY even list the damn part on your store if you're not going to sell it?!? I wasn't even allowed to buy from that vendor through work anyway so it didn't matter but still!

I beg to disagree on the Apple TV HD. I get it, I bought it at the SAME PRICE of $150 back in 2017, but it is still far more capable than your normal Fire TV or Chromecast, you can play games natively and intuitively on it and it has the best looking UI out of any other streaming box out there imo.

There's no point in buying one now though - it's less powerful, and will go out of support sooner too.

I didn't even know you could buy a PS5 controller from Apple, and of course it's the most expensive brand new one that I've seen

I'm still using my iPod 6 (WiFi), Because it has a great battery, after all these years it still holds its charge for like 1 week or so. Also, it's so tiny & more rugged than my iPhone. So if you drop it won't matter much. I dropped it like 100 times but not one scratch on the screen. I love it.

Yeah, I prefer and use the five watt adapter because I always charge the phone overnight and it slowly charge the phone and the battery health is still at 100% even now after 9 months of use

I charge my phone overnight, so that why I use a 5w charger. And if I need charger then I do field work and keep it on 10W limit software.

I work in IT, some colleagues still request a magic mouse stating they can't use anything else. I've tried to convert them to MX Masters... But I give up.
