Bob People don't get it that there is no such thing as a 'peaceful Muslim'... if they are 'peaceful' then they aren't really 'Muslims'... in order to be a Muslim, to follow the Qu'ran, there is a LOT of bigotry and violence involved. They may be peaceful, but it is ONLY because they are being 'buffet-style' Muslims like the Christians are in the US... picking and choosing the tenets they follow and dogma they believe, and excluding the stuff they don't want to....

As a former university lecturer, I found this riveting and much too true. But I wish Pat had mentioned, apart from the sciences and maths, the need for students to study serious history, philosophy and religious studies. These are among the most difficult subjects because they involve a real understanding of how to criticise and debate ideas. Sadly, these subjects too have been taken over by post-modernist, far-left, over-sensitive teachers and a belief that one must never disturb students. We are in serious danger.

My boyfriend was a lecturer in Engineering. He left last year to work in the private sector. He said he will never go back and knowing what I know of the place from my time there I completely agree with his assessment. Universities are not becoming a joke, they already are a joke. STEM fields have been under assault since the mid 2000s and yes the math really is being dumbed down for a lot of students.
@Nualaboala8 жыл бұрын
***** Honestly I think from what he has told me and what you describe that you both felt the same way. Promoting others not based on merit but because of their sex or background. I remember him coming home furious one day when he was told during a departmental meeting that he was expected to mark the girls in the course easier during assessments because the university wanted to keep the numbers up. He couldn't do the same for the boys though. They had to work at a higher standard essentially. That's not to say that women are stupid, just that these female students were being given a handicap they wouldn't get in the real working world. Consequently now most companies are reluctant to hire from the graduate pool since the standards are so unreliable which hurts men and women. Even worse (and I have seen this myself) he told me false claims of discrimination by students will ruin the profession and personal lives of male lecturers now and more often than not it is a disgruntled student lying. I work in the healthcare sector and moved into the private sector recently. I have seen female student nurses coming out of universities with such entitlement attitudes that they will make false harassment claims against a man if they feel under pressure. Professionalism is something most students lack now and bring this attitude from university that they are "special" and anyone who doesn't accommodate their sense of specialness than they are "misogynists", "racists", "discriminating", or whatever buzzword they want to use. In reality no professional has time to be handholding these special snowflakes. Anyways, my boyfriend is much happier in the private sector and while he is earning less (for now) but his peace of mind and integrity is more important.

I am not planning on backing down, but seeing the type of hysterical bullshit coming out of American universities, with rational people being shouted down and vilified I simply question whether it would be worth the hassle. Going to uni is not bad thing neither is not going is a bad thing. I am 18 i going to uni people my age just need to be careful what degrees pursue avoid certain degrees like politics,gender studies or criminology as it is hard to find a filed in these . make a list of pros and cons of going to university these are your own personal reasons . AS time goes on you will know whether going to uni is right for you or not trust me soon you will know it may seen answer may not come but it will come. if you are still not sure then dont go. its better not to go to uni than go and regret it, many people start uni late a teacher at my school went to uni at 30 go when it feels right for you. My aspiration is to be a solicitor which is why i want to do law, i know a law degree is long but it is want i want an i will fight for it . i am going to get a job while at uni and not depend too much on my student loans . Take care and good luck with the future it will work out and things will fall in to place , it may seem bumpy and confusing but things will clear up.

Well said! Being an academic (of the honorable "old school", with a degree in a field that actually contributes ... physics) myself, I could not agree more with what you just said. It is frightening to see the decline of the academic system with such a rapid pace, and the "devaluation" of the work of many brilliant people (think Tim Hunt or Matt Taylor), just because they dared to offend someone somewhere with something not even worth mentioning among people with even just half a brain. The situation is futile, and, to be honest, I gave up even to hope for a return to the true values, ethical rules, and merit-based internal workings of the academic system. I call it "the end of progress", and it is here. And please don't take people serious who show you the arrogant "you are not an academic" shoulder. I was a mature university student, so I know that what you're saying is closer to the truth than it was when I graduated (to no job prospect) 20 years ago. I worked in Japan instead, because there was no prospect for a life for me in my home country. Choosing to make another country your home is a difficult decision, but it is better to try than cry like a baby. The Baby attitude of many young first-time-ever-away-from-home University adult kids is not their fault. They have been lead to believe something about their own capabilities which do not necessarily balance sensibly with human needs, but rather falsely inflated desires which are readily bought into - to satisfy the brat child insistence. When the reality of poor parenting hits home, it's already too late! It will not matter that that these kids know S---t about Maths, engineering, fiscal analysis, or Global Economic balance etc. Most people in the UK do not know what is happening beyond Calais, which is terrifying! I have not given up - despite (or because of) the loss of my family, home, and everything. Moreover, together I think we can still help - if only for our lost children, to greed, ideologies, and unrealistic expectations. Thank You for this!

I have to say that with the market orientation of most Australian universities these days we are starting to lose some of the SJWs in professorships; being an SJW translates into poor articles for publication - I mean how many top rate academic journals want another article about identity issues & engineering, or feminism and accounting, or race and how it relates to law? These SJWs will still own the arts faculties, but the job market excludes them from anything but teaching.

This was some years ago, but before we could teach, we had to attend sessions on classroom conduct. I recall the teary-eyed woman telling her story of how she had an interpretation of a work of literature and a boy in the class did not agree with her. "OK, academic disagreement," thought I, "A healthy thing to occur in a university." You could have wiped the floor with my dropped jaw when the professors teaching the session hugged the woman and said she was within her rights to report this boy to the dean. "Huh?" Report a young man for disagreeing with another student? Yikes!! This was 20 years ago, and it has evolved into the victim-hood clown show we see today on virtually all university campuses.

I've tried recording video both with and without a script and you can immediately see the difference - when reading you're not looking straight at the camera all the time, because the text has to be off to a side somewhere. Pat is looking straight at the camera all the time, do you think he's got the text printed on the lenses? Also, if it's a piece of paper, you'd probably see white reflections in his glasses.

Pat Condell: I am shocked that you did not go to a university. You are so well versed and well spoken. I do not know what you do to make a living, but you should be making speeches in every college, university & high school. I believe you could make some of those Gestapo liberals change their mind.

I've just watched Dunkirk and couldn't help but contrast those young men forming orderly queues to get on an unseawortty boat in between being dive bombed. Many young man had lied about their age to join up because they knew their country was in peril. Stranded on a beach they faced death from every side and little hope of rescue but they kept discipline. Wouldn't they have wanted a safe space? Somewhere to hide away from bombs and bullets? But there wasn't anywhere. If they got on a boat they had every chance of being bombed or the boat itself would never make it through the channel because it was designed for river cruising. I'm not an eloquent man (as you can tell) but I have so much respect for those brave soldiers and civilians trying against the odds to get the Expeditionary Force home. As Churchill rightly said 'we mustn't ascribe Dunkirk as a victory. Battles are not won by evacuation' but lets be thankful this country once had such lions fighting for our freedom. Too many youngsters today are so precious and so pathetic they don't know they're born.

I am now a taxi driver that picks up uni students .....my sad arse has more knowledge about everything compared to these and I have read so much more than these idiots who just use google . I pick up chinese uni students that cannot speak a word of english ... but hey ... they pay their money and can go back home and say they have been to an english university ..... I pick up english students who spend 5 minutes working out how much a 5 quid fare is for 4 of them . You think I am kidding ? Now and again I pick up someone who is dedicated ..... but its very rare .

I see a lot of negativity around education in general here. People saying that students are brain washed. A lot of generalization. In my university, we don't have any of the degrees you talk about. But the world needs doctors, scientists, engineers and people who knows economy. remember that.

I would have agreed 25 years ago. Back then "Human Sexuality Studies" taught us that if you are not into any possible sex act with anyone there is some wrong with YOU while at same time various victims' studies disciplines taught us all sex acts regardless of consent victimized someone show how. Only people who actually believed either extreme somehow managed to believe both. Now these people are running shit.

I like your comments 99% of the time Pat but please don't compare Jesus Christ's teachings to Muslim teachings or put all spiritual beliefs in the same boat
@Kevin150478 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Wian I suppose it isn't fair to compare cancer to the flu. But cancer being worse doesn't make the flu a good thing. God is a dick in the old testament, a pussy in the new testament and an asshole in the koran.
@Kevin150478 жыл бұрын
Andrew Wian That's the thing. He didn't have to die. I can forgive people without a blood sacrifice, but god can't? Maybe god's just into s&m? I don't know. No, he can't just forgive people. He has to make them kill his kid/him and then that somehow makes it possible to forgive people. And for goodness sake, have you read the old testament? What the hell is the difference between the ancient isrealites and the muslims? The tribes of isreal pillaged, raped, and killed, all with god's blessing.
@andrewwian49218 жыл бұрын
God didn't create sinful man if you recall. He created us without sin initially. "We" then chose to sin against God because of our own free will that God gave us. Then because of his love and mercy, he sent Jesus to be our substitute so we wouldn't have to spend eternity away from his presence. doesn't sound schizophrenic to me mate. Sounds loving and merciful
@Kevin150478 жыл бұрын
Andrew Wian Then you might be schizophrenic.
@lostperfection058 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Wian You seem to be dancing around the fact, that sending Jesus to die for our sins makes zero sense. When god is all powerful, he doesn't need to do some blood ritual to forgive us, he just does it, because he is all powerful. It sounds like you've grown up hearing the same stories since you can remember, and haven't questioned them enough. When you talk to god in your head, it's just you listening, maybe a scary thought, but it is what it is.

Well said. But are there any practical solutions to this madness? One of the root causes is the dumbing down of primary and secondary education, coupled with the destruction of discipline in schools. That's where to start.
