As a carpenter of 30+ years I am impressed at the time you took to make this tutorial easy and accessible for all to do. As a martial artist.....thank you.

Thanks for the guide! I just finished building one! Ironically, I now know more about woodworking than Wing Chun, but I will definitely enjoy practicing and learning more with my new dummy! Thanks again!

I have zero experience in Wing Chun and don't know anything about the wooden dummy, but after some superficial research I really like what I see here. Looks sturdy and practical device and if I ever decide to have one this what I would want. Thank you for sharing 👍👍👍

Looks like the base would allow placement of sand bags on either side if you wanted to fight a 'heavier' person.

I'm amazed out how easily you teach / translate concepts. Succinct, to the point and easy to follow. Your students are incredibly lucky! How's the dummy holding up 5 years later?

Thank you for this detailed and easy to understand video series. I am a long time professional woodworker, and my great grandson is studying Chinese martial arts very enthusiastically as a very young boy. His father told me he wants to give him a dummy for his birthday. Following your construction instructions will be no problem for me, given that my shop is equipped with the tools and machinery of the trade. (This makes me respect all the more the fine work you did with minimal tools!) My questions: Should I adjust the total height of the dummy according to this boy's current height? Likewise, should I adjust the length and vertical spacing of the arms and leg? I like the fact that your general design could allow for the dummy to be raised in height from the ground as the child grows. So my questions are asked in part with this potential for future adjustability for growth in mind. Even with appropriate equipment, this will be a substantial project and investment. I would like to make something that will remain useful for as many years as possible, yet I would not want to allow such concern to cause me to make a dummy so large that it will not allow for the best learning experience right now, while he is building his technical foundation. Thank you again so much for your dedication and teaching.

keep the exact measurements as mine and you will be fine. The length and vertical spacing of the arms and legs, keep them the same. Only change the height of the entire trunk up or down to the growing person. It is OK if the dummy is a little bigger than the boy for now since your attacker ( a Bully ) is usually taller than you.

Hey, Nice videos sifu. You make very awesome content, I love how you are so detailed in the work you do. I have two questions, my first question is....... I am a beginner and I only know the first form of Wing Chun (SIU NIM TOA) and I don't know if I should start wooden dummy forms at this stage, please let me know if I should wait until I complete all three forms first or not? My second question is how much is the total cost to make a wooden dummy like this myself at home? Thanks and God bless!!!
@TOMMYBOY69697 жыл бұрын
As a beginner,, you can use the dummy, but only do moves that you know. I would advise that you start Chum Kiu with the dummy form together. Since the dummy form includes all 3 Sil Lim Tao, Chum Kiu and Biu Jee,,, if you jump into the dummy form, it might be difficult and you might learn the wrong way. As for the price,, if you have all the equipment,,, saw,,, electric planner,,, etc. and buy your wood from a wood mill, it would still cost around 350-400 dollars. All depends on what type of wood you buy.

Have you tried using wax at the bottom for movement

no, but i am sure wax will do the trick too.

Hi my name is Michael your videos has inspired me.I really want a wooden dummy would I be able to purchase one from you directly
@TOMMYBOY69696 жыл бұрын
I dont think my price would be cheap. I think you are better off buying it from the internet. My garage is taking up by my car right now since it is winter therefore, so i dont have a place to work. I can only do wood work in the spring.

how much cost of this dummy..in indian currency with shipping charges?
@TOMMYBOY69697 жыл бұрын
It will be cheaper if you find someone to built it for you in india. I charge $ 1200 USD for the Dummy. I dont think it would be wise to ship it since i am in Canada. I would guess shipping will be at least 2 to 300 USD. Here is a website you may look at,, you will have to ask for overseas shipping. www.everythingwingchun.com/wooden-dummies-mook-yan-jong-s/33.htm

@TOMMYBOY69694 жыл бұрын
If you go to Home Depot,, it will cost you more.. So find a lumber yard,,,and the cost of all the wood will be close to 500 bucks
