Trained WC for eleven years in Australia and have had my own dummy for ten, NOBODY has ever taught me to push the arms and leg in before starting, but it makes perfect sense. Will discuss with my Sifu this week. Thank you.

does that wooden dummy have the top arms at the same level? also what arm leveling would you recommend traditional or parallel?
@barrypangkungfu76294 жыл бұрын
One is slightly higher than the other. For information, this 45 year old wooden dummy was made by Koo Sang, who developed the modern wooden dummy for Ip Man, specifically meeting the grandmaster’s requirements. This format became the gold standard that was also used by Barry’s instructor, Wong Shun Leung. We are fortunate to have a master carpenter at our club who is able to reproduce these.

Where do I buy one? a good one too I feel like it builds bones creating micro fractures

The wooden dummy in this explainer video was made by Koo Sang, who developed the modern wooden dummy for Ip Man. Barry has been using it for 45 years. One of our senior students is a carpenter and is able to reproduce them to correct specifications. However, he is not doing this commercially at the moment. If you're in Australia, "Tribal Dummies" offer great product and great service. They're in or near Brisbane. They ship anywhere in Australia. You can get one mounted like Sifu's one here or a tripod one. Traditional or modified. Mine cost me around a grand ten years ago. I use it every day, even if for just three or four minutes. You're correct about micro-fractures. I highly recommend iron palm training as well. Uses the same micro-fracturing principles to make your bones denser. Happy training.

i dont really have 400 pound to spend on a dummy does any one know the best place to get them slightly more on a budget?
@barrypangkungfu76293 жыл бұрын
It's important to get a properly designed and firmly sprung wooden dummy. Having said that, all you need is a few metres of space and zero equipment to train all of the extremely important and fundamental techniques in Wing Chun. Having a wooden dummy is a luxury that many people obtain too early in their training.
@vampraver2 жыл бұрын
You don't need a wooden dummy. You can do air dummy.

There should be dowels put in the back of the arms so they can’t come out You missed the inside pac saus One thing I completely applaud you about is that whoever made the upper arms was smart enough to make them level with each other as opposed to many morons who have the arms really uneven 👍

You get stiff with to many rules .again Bruce Lee is right we are only human being . Escrima ( using it in war even now a days in phillipines) is better . But still this body movements is good for you health n this one of to many style but i prefer boxing as a true combative element .
@wnmoy3 ай бұрын
In the beginning, you will feel “stiff with too many rules”. However, the rules are the basis of your foundation. Diligence will make these rules second nature; similar to driving or riding a bike or motorcycling. Modern society are not use to hard work and will complain and quit. I think Bruce Lee came up with JKD as a “shortcut” to his WC experience to appease the majority. Also, he was not authorized to teach WC and not to mention that he only had the basics of WC teaching (good example of putting in hard work to the fundamentals works). People misinterpreted many of his philosophies to what they want to hear. Kung fu IS hard work. No getting around that. If you are talented, you will get there quicker.
