when the paints are carefull consistent in viscosity the specific gravity allows the lighter weights to rise and shine. your pour technique allows you the fantastic results you get. the 3D effects of tinted yellows under a resin topcoat, gloss, is a soecial effect being chased by quite a few people. I like the way you prepare and attack the process and don't overwork it. the cells don't deform that way, smart lady you are.

This is how Siqueiros discovered the technique, but he used primarily enamels. The Americana line is matte finish. Matte paints create cells when in this consistency. The satin enamel white is so matte (even though labeled satin) that only a touch of it will make another paint cell. Cells of different densities can create cells like this, or mixing mattes with non matte paints...I think they are different reactions with similar results.
@MelyDartist
@MelyDartist 5 жыл бұрын
By mixing mattes with non matte paints... I agree! Don't you find the satin enamel doesn't dry matte thought? I'm surprised you say it is so matte. I didn't know that.
@GinaDeLuca
@GinaDeLuca 5 жыл бұрын
MelyD.artist the first time I saw the satin enamel dried I thought to use it as an additive to make other paints matte. I’ve used matte medium with some success too. The thinner consistency is key I think to cause the reaction between matte and not. I did swatch sheets of all my paints to see which were matte about a year ago. I had never used craft paint and decoart sent me a bunch of stuff to try it included the Americana line. I was psyched to see they were all matte. Some produced better cells than others. But they all reacted in a straight pour. Almost any matte paint will give you these results. And you can make any paint matte.
@MelyDartist
@MelyDartist 5 жыл бұрын
@@GinaDeLuca I'm still not sure I understand. How can the satin enamel be such a matte paint when it says satin on the bottle and dries satin? Is there a certain property or ingredient that tells you a paint is matte besides what's written on the bottle? And since the Americana line is matte as you say, which I believe 100% (accept the satin line ofcourse) then why would you add the satin enamels to it to make it even more matte? Isn't it the opposite? Mix matte with none-matte? Sorry for this.... I completely agree on thin consistency and mixing brands.
@GinaDeLuca
@GinaDeLuca 5 жыл бұрын
MelyD.artist I know its weird. When I my paintings (15&16) dried, I noticed the cells were matte. So I did a swatch chart (my whole theory is explained in 20 and I show the swatch chart.) with every paint I had. I had a 48 piece liquitex set. Liquitex is branded and a satin paint. If you look at a swatch of them on paper, you will see a very big difference in the sheen. Light magenta is glossy and cad yellow light is matte. The cad yellow light is such a cell maker I use it like the satin enamel, an additive to make other paints cell.

So gorgeous! Do you think the Liquitex Pouring Medium was what brought about those cells - or was it the thinned paint? :) I've been working on getting those cells on my channel with watery acrylics. But I didn't like the way the painting dried
@MelyDartist
@MelyDartist 5 жыл бұрын
Pouring medium wasn't created to produce cells. Cells appear naturally because of how the paints are diluted to a certain consistency and then moved into each other. It's a question of ingredients in the paint, not the pouring medium.
@HeatherMaderArt
@HeatherMaderArt 5 жыл бұрын
I agree - most mediums I've tried don't produce cells, and yes the consistency is key.... But I've found the Liquitex Pouring Medium, which is labeled "E" for "Effects" actually creates cells anytime I use it. Its almost as if they designed it with the fluid artist in mind! :) Maybe its just been a coincidence with the paint I've been using. But I don't use silicone or any other pouring medium but floetrol, so when I started adding the Liquitex I noticed it gave effects immediately. @@MelyDartist
@MelyDartist
@MelyDartist 5 жыл бұрын
@@HeatherMaderArt I honestly think it's a coincidence with the paint you're using. I dont use Floetrol but I've read and heard multiple times that it gives more cells than l.p.m. hard not to believe it so I trust them on that. BUT I still prefer to work with the reaction of different paints and I'm 99% sure that it's not the l.p.m. that creates the cells but the combination of ingredients from different brands of paints in the same painting. Hope that makes sense lol

@MelyDartist
@MelyDartist 5 жыл бұрын
I think, well actually I know that it's the reaction between the Artist Loft and DecoArt Americana. The pouring medium has nothing to do with it. What it does is add fluidity to the paint and helps bind the pigments so water can be added. Pouring medium is not made to create cells. It is a product created for fluid painting to help with the flow. Cells appear because the paints are diluted to a certain consistency and moved into each other. Then you gotta work with different brands to see which ingredients react which way with each other.

You are so gracious to respond so quickly. Thank you. You are one talented woman!

@@louisestubois9241 well what I can tell you from what you just told me is that I think you're problem is the brands of paint you're using. Some create cells easily and some not at all. The Satin Enamel creates a cloudy effect, not cells really. I would strongly suggest the Artist loft white or black with the Decoart Americana colors until you get used to it. Those 2 work best I believe. Although I havent tried every brand. Hope this helps a bit. X
