This has become one of my new favorite channels for this new year. Ive done multiple repairs as a mobile welder for these exact hinges. One thing id like to add is that the square tubing metal on those stressed areas of hinges are too thin. So when i repair them i like to add a strip of ¼" x 2" flat bar before i weld them back to the square tubing.

Not a bad idea. I think a lot depends on what manufacturer built the trailer. Some are built heavier than others. I think it’s a great idea on those lighter ones. Thanks for watching!

I went to welding school, I didnt like it and came home, with that love welding, I'm 55 and wasn't gonna weld pipe and follow shut downs, I went there hoping to learn how to weld, meaning knowing when and if you got pennetration, learning what heat what amps, I did learn just not what I thought, im hoping with your channel you cld help me better understand what heat and amps, when to use stick versus mig, what rod or wire is best for different thickness, also what heat for those thickness measurements, hv grt Christmas and new years

I watched this like"Ok, I did this before but let's see how he does it", way different😂. I would love a shop so much! A crane, heavy table, what a good tactic. I was wondering, why not just buy new hinges and weld em on though? For me when I did that, the trailer place carries them, just bought three, sliced them off and welded the new ones on.

The only reason I didn’t just buy new hinges is because of time restraints. The customer needed it fixed as soon as possible, and I figured it was faster. I also usually make a judgement call on whether they’re too bent to repair rather than just replace them. I figured these weren’t too bad, so that’s what we did. Thanks for watching!

Do you do anything to keep your dual shield welding wire from absorbing moisture?

I store it in a plastic bag in the box when it’s not on the machine. When it’s on the machine, I don’t do anything to stop it, but I’ve also never had an issue. Thanks for watching!
