I live in NY state and our Pet Smart stores throw away so much dog food. I get as much as I can and donate it to our local shelter. They don’t care if the bag is open, but can not take food that isn’t in its original bag. I carry a big roll of packing tape in my car to seal them up. Every little bit helps.

We got a 14kg bag of dog food kibble and 21 packs of Wainwrights wet dog food out of our local pet shop bin recently. It should last us about 2 months or longer! My dogs diet can now be classed as carbon neutral as far as I’m concerned - a Freegan dog! 😄

I rang the local pets at home morecambe and asked why they waste dog and cat food ,they claimed it will be out of date, as we well know by checking it is not they just slash bags ,dump in bins, wasteful.

DogsTrust will only take totally sealed bags. (More fool them). When I told someone else on here that DogsTrust had that policy they defended it and said it’s because there are some screwed up people out there (implying people would donate bags of food that they had opened and laced with poison)! 🤷‍♀️

You should pack some parcel tape or similar to do quick repair job on bag tears saving any firther loss in transit.

I don't understand if the pet food is just thrown into landfill disposable why a charity could not be offered it instead? if a PAH had there own disposal/recycle program's where stuff was sent to be processed I would understand but its literally just discarded,
