+babi dutta It is called mridanga: mrid means earthen or clay, anga means body. Mridanga = body of clay. Which is precisely what this drum is. Khol is another name for it, but mridanga is also correct.

The instrument name is Shri Khol which also known as Mridanga. This instrument is invented in my state West Bengal by Shri Chaitanya Deva. This instrument is specially used for Hari naam Sankirtan/Bhajan in West Bengal.
