With Bison I always find it remarkable how such a large and heavy animal can be so light on it's feet, trouncing around like it's nothing. -We used to raise Angus cattle that were like Peaches. We had to be ever vigilant on keeping our fencing in good order, if not we would get that late night call from our neighbor saying our cattle was on the road, usually in the most crappiest of weather, and just try and get those Knuckle-Heads back in they way they got out.

The joke around here is yelling "The cows are out!" would wake the sickest from a coma.

Our stock stayed in most of the time thank goodness (horses, mules, donkeys and ponies) Not so for our neighbor! We were taught from little up, not to put our clothes in the hamper at night. They stayed on a chair next to the bed with our boots. It made it faster to get out of the house and head off the neighbors angus herd from crashing our fences and garden! We could hear them coming for a couple minutes before they struck! They got as excited as the bison when they got loose!

Have you considered putting a small vehicle staging area on the bison side of the gate, maybe as simple as a hotwire, or tension wire. Maybe the length of the tractor. Something that would stop the bison from doing an end run around your equipment while you get thru the gate.

👏👏👏. Got to applaud this video. You promised a good show and boy did you deliver. When they heard the tractor it was like seeing kids running to the playground. Love seeing them so frisky. Dunbar knew and was wasting no time. Having a small herd you definitely can build a relationship with them unlike the large ranches. Peaches looked like she was begging for some attention but certain it was just a game to see if you messed up. Where would she have gone if did slip out the gate? Loved how close they came to camera and almost taking it out. Have you lost a camera yet to them getting too close? YES to more traveling to other ranches large or small. Have loved seeing large conservation ranches with large herds way up north especially Custer state park roundup. Saw it live and the waiting for the herd to come over The Hill will never be forgotten. Your recent visit to ranch in Texas was incredibly filmed and edited and worth every invite you shared. When is it time for you to work your herd this year? Have you improved the head gate yet? Can’t believe how black Dunbar is and is he getting winter coat already? Thanks for this awesome video and sharing these incredible animals as they play like children. Beautiful site to see 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Are these plains bison or woods bison? The reason I ask is we had bison Coast to coast until the mid 1700s. The Eastern bison were woods bison and were wiped out by the 1770s and while most people don't know that we had bison from California north to BC they were wiped out by 1824. Those bison were called the Oregon buffalo and were thought to be the same as the Plains bison. Recent DNA tests have revealed that the Oregon buffalo were actually woods bison. To my knowledge the only wild herd is in woods buffalo provincial park in Saskatchewan. I would love to see some here in the States. The funny thing is we now have a wild herd in the Ochoco mountains in the heart of Eastern Oregon completely by accident. A rancher passed away and I guess had no heirs so no one was taking care of his buffalo herd. As they got hungry, well, you know there is no fence that can keep a hungry bison in. So they moved into the Ochoco and I hope they're still there. I know they're plains bison, but the Ochoco without buffalo is like the fourth of July without fireworks. Just don't seem the same. Thanx for the video. You've got a new subscriber.

When working on a NZ farm with Friesian bulls that were notoriously aggressive and unpredictable, it was necessary to build an alley with deer fence, hot wire, and a steel gate at each end. It served at least two purposes: one to stop the bulls rushing at an open gateway or to charge the tractor, when hay was delivered, the other was a safety refuge for stock hand and dogs. Extra expense I know, and I see that your bison are excitable as distinct from aggressive, but perhaps something like that for your animals at feeding time might prove useful.

That was the neatest thing watching how they do everything in Texas glad you get to go and have new ideas on other farmers. Yes please go to other places to see how they do their farms. Bison are so fun when they are running you wouldn't think being that size they would do that. We had a lady down the street from us who had bison in Indiana plus many other species of animals. Tigers Bears Lion's Giraffes and so much more. She took in one's Zoo's couldn't take or one's that were taken from homes where they shouldn't of had them probably had 300 animals in all. My husband worked for her for about a year feeding all of them we got to go a few times to see new animals they got. Oh so fun. She had over 300 acres part was a landfill for dirt and rocks and tree's the other was field's and field's of animals roaming freely. Was the coolest thing to go see them running like that. Thanks for taking us along. Happy Halloween 🎃
