DUNBAR Scotland, voted as “one of the best places in Scotland to live” by the Sunday Times is worth a visit so we have come to explore Dunbar and see what's happening!
Also watch our video of Edinburgh - • A Tour of Edinburgh, S...
Welcome to Dunbar, East Lothian Scotland, your next favourite destination for days out, staycation, holidays or maybe even your next home.
It's been dubbed 'Sunny Dunny' thanks to a reputation for the most hours of sunshine of any UK town, and with coast-meets-countryside scenery, a charming harbour and vibrant high street, it's little wonder Dunbar was named by the Sunday Times as “one of the best places in Scotland to live”.
Dunbar has so much to fall in love with, from local unique shopping, great places to eat or some incredibly beautiful natural surroundings. Once you’ve discovered Dunbar we think you’ll never forget it!
Dunbar is a town on the North Sea coast in East Lothian in the south-east of Scotland, approximately 30 miles east of Edinburgh and 30 mi from the English border north of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Dunbar is a former royal burgh, and gave its name to an ecclesiastical and civil parish.
Dunbar is a pleasant town on the North Sea coast of East Lothian, about 30 miles east of Edinburgh.
The town of Dunbar is on the North Sea coast of East Lothian, about 30 miles east of Edinburgh. The town is renowned for its high sunshine record, rugged coastline and attractive countryside. It is steeped in history and was one of the most important Scottish Fortresses in the middle ages. Its ruined castle, which stands guard over the town's twinned harbours, once sheltered Mary Queen of Scots when she fled Edinburgh after the murder of Rizzio.
Dunbar is home to John Muir Country Park which is a nature reserve and can be enjoyed by both a family enjoying the outdoors and the natural history enthusiast. The Park is named after John Muir, the explorer, naturalist and conservationist, who was born in Dunbar. It supports a wide range of habitats, birds and plants and covers some of the most spectacular East Lothian coastline.
Dunbar’s broad high street is packed full of unique local businesses providing customers with a great retail experience and boasts several grand old stone buildings. There are award winning food and drink establishments and quirky places to stay including hotels, guest houses and campsites.
Other family fun attractions in Dunbar include East Links Family Park and Foxlake Adventures. East Links Family Park is a farm-based activity park suitable for all ages. A train safari runs through paddocks of friendly farm animals and there are lots of activities including go karts, trampolines, soft play ball blast area and a tree-level multi activity fortress. Foxlake Adventures, Scotland’s first wakeboard cable tow is great fun for beginners and experienced wakeboarders. They have also opened a unique ropes challenge taking place over water.
Dunbar is also home to a leisure pool, with wave machine, beach area, flume and other exciting water features. It also has a health suite with sauna, solarium and steam room, and a fully equipped gym.
“Dunbar is a real hidden Scottish gem, with accessible wide high streets, cool independent shops and so much to discover!”

My home town for my first 18 years and I still love it from the other side of the planet. In Victoria Street, the swimming pool replaced a beautiful outdoor pool, refreshed from the sea. It's missed to this day.

I am lucky that I have travelled the world. However, I was born and brought up in Dunbar. Plus I came home after many years away. I love being home and this is by far the best place I have ever lived, Good old Sunny Dunny

I grew up in Sunny Dunny and have friends and family there still. What with all the recent madness not been back in ages, so thanks for taking me home! By the way, those Fisher women were tough as nails. They used to carry the men out to the boats so they could at least start their fishing trip dry. There are also records of them walking through the night with those huge heavy baskets on their heads so they could get their catch sold further up the coast. Also, could be wrong, but I think that sandstone cube thing opposite the Volunteers Arms is the old well head. That street used to be pretty densely populated at one time, and few of any had indoor water. A lovely vid, thanks again!

My Great Aunt Ella lived for years in Dunbar and my mum was born there (actually in Hedderwick Hill) in 1932. I was raised with my trans-planted mother in California and she'd tell stories of how the spirit of Black Agnes would watch over the sea-faring folk

I was there last year for the first time, it seems like a very nice place with some nice developments happening around the harbour too. Very well connected - right next to the A1 and also on the East Coast main line. Best of East Lothian, Borders and Northumberland on the doorstep also.

As you were nearing the end of the video and talking about the history of the harbor entrance, there was a photo of 3 people and a child sitting on the beach and they were using the same baskets as the statue with the women and two men carrying something, and you asked about. I don't know what is is as I'm from Australia,. I love your walks and love Scotland. Thank you so much, kind regards Qld Australia.

Dunbar is lovely and we've a lot to thank one it's famous sons for..... John Muir ! For me however if it's East Lothian and the coast it has to be North Berwick with its two beaches, High st with loads of individual shops, lovely little harbour complete with boat trips to see the Bass Rock with its puffins, that iconic red East Lothian stone that so many buildings are made from, the wonderful house facades on the east beach promenade and of course just down the road Tantallon Castle and the mesmerising private beach, Seacliff were I want my ashes scattered!! Spent many happy days in North Berwick, sometimes wishing that North Sea was a bit warmer whilst swimming!! 👌😂

It looked like a lovely day for your walk in Dunbar. It seems the sort of place I'm attracted to, although unfortunately sadly never been. The more and more I see these places in Scotland makes me want to plan a trip and visit there again. I bet I would feel the same if you toured around Wales. I fell in love there too as I did in Scotland. The Uk is so special to me. Someday, I will make it to Ireland too. Have you been? :)

I can understand why the swimming pool is on the sea front. By the look of it no sandy beach here. Visitors arriving for the day in the summer, after maybe a long trip, would fall into that pool. Suspect also the North sea can be chilly even on the warmest day. Love the look of the town. Shops smart and varied. Just puzzled by the lack of people.Doubt if I will ever make a visit but soaked up the atmosphere of the place. So thank you, much enjoyed.

You have got to be joking about Dunbar, the town has serious problems with youth crime, alcohol abuse amongst the young in Dunbar, also drug problems, for years unemployable heavy boozers who have never done a honest days work in there lives, they lived on the dole and by other ways and means boozed on cheap ciders every opportunity they had, the Parish Council has made representations to the police in Dunbar about the boozing and crime, and all they get told we will look into it, empty promises and reassurances' even the East Lothian Courier has done articles about Dunbar and the problems that decent hard working people of Dunbar have had to put up with for many years, so lets call a spade a spade and be honest about it, the birth place of John Muire, he would be turning his grave if knew how Dunbar has turned out since his day as a boy, no wonder he and his family left for the USA and a better life, what Dunbar needs is active policing, the police station closes at 17:00 0n a Friday and reopens at 09:00 on the Monday morning when the local louts are back to the high scool giving there teachers problems, and the cider boozers are getting over there cheap cider hangovers until they sign on and get money for the next round of cider boozing, one name that is well known and sticks out is Basher he has never done a hands turn of work in his life.
