Your father taught me too, and stayed in our house for a wee break after your Mum's funeral. My older brother William had learned at the same time as Charlie Macfarlane Barrow, about contemporary with Duncan Chisholm, i think. I used to be amazed by Duncan and Ivan Dreever when they were just young lads, doing solos at the Inverness Reel and Strathspey Society concerts. Unfortunately Wullie gave up lessons after maybe 18 months. The primary school found out and he was forced to play in the concert, i think.. after being told he was a dunce for years and given a triangle to hit once and suchlike. After Dad's disappointment, i only had the courage to ask to go for lessons when i was 16, going on seventeen and we could only manage about evey third or forth Saturday, with being in Roybridge 60 miles away and Saturday being changeover day for the chalets. I worked too and had boyfriends and nonsense. Only had 16 lessons while at home and another two or three fitted in while at college in Edinburgh. Then Donald died and it was the end of an era. I last saw Duncan Chisholm at the funeral and he said he could give me lessons in Edinbugh, but i was too shy to take him up on it, despite having his number. Obviously long regretted! My brother Wullie went back to the fiddle when he was eighteen or so and even now, you can tell by his bowing that once upon a time, he was taught by the great Donald Riddell. I hope Rose is still with you, give her my best and Geordie too though he was always grumpy when your folks were having tea and cakes with my dad, Bill McCallum after a lesson. Dad died 5 years ago, at 87, a good innings as he would say. The sold up the chalets when he was 60 and went to the wild West of Kintyre, where he had been evacuated from Glasgow in the war. We often had chilly October holidays there, in damp caravans on farms. My favoutite memory of your folk's farm was your wee Mum at the door, banging an old aluminum pot of kitchen scraps with a spoon, calling PIG PIG pig pig and dozens of enormous ginger hairy pigs( Tamworths?) charging towards her at high speed. I was seven or eight and right beside her and suddenly a bit terrified. But they all slid neatly to a halt right in front of us, all four trotters neatly together and politely took the food. If i remember right, you had your own farm a short distance away. Jings, i do waffle on, but very happy memories over many years, from Wullies lessons to mine. All the best to all the Riddells, Kirsteen McCallum

Duncan is my favorite.These Scots need no big studios ,mixing boards or producers hanging around-they just bring their gear int the pub or someone's living room & start the countdown...

Really fine and tuneful playing....has he any classical training?
@sarahnelson99982 жыл бұрын
yes all the top fiddlers have had classical training or they could not move about on the instrument so much...they do not have the hostility to one or the other form and training which sadly some musicians do
@tomgreene22822 жыл бұрын
@@sarahnelson9998 Thank you for reply ...It can be a pity when some people see these things in opposition ....with some it seems to be a rooted objection to any classical training.

Is this really an unknown air, or is "Unknown Air" the title? It bears a strong resemblance to this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIKzhqx6nbaUiqc
