Sue: Yes, I love these slow airs far better than a jig or reel. Probably harder to play as well ... 🎼🎵🎶 💯

Heard this for the first time last week on radio national and had to stop the car to listen to it - just so beautiful and moving. There is a lot of the souls of Aly and Phil in this one.

Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain are to Scottish music what Tom and Jack Alexander and Andy Stewart were to the original White Heather Club,not only that but true embassadors to their heritage culture and music career.

@@kengreenfield-nman O yes there is ... I know Him personally - and He saved my life. What makes you think He doesn't exist? And it is God that has given these two lovely men such talent. Heaven will be full of such beautiful music - but hell will be dark with no joy, music or laughter. But we have a choice as to where we will end up my friend.

The best duo for this type of lament. Really lovely, and good bass work on the box. My big regret is that Ian Powrie never had a go at this emotional air. Thanks Frank in Bristol.

I had to mull this over for a while before replying. If you look/listen to Aly Bain & Phil C, you will soon find that their music is filled with a deep love of the musical traditions that they have grown up in, and have contributed to in their lifetime. Gaelic music is so rich & varied, with a huge revival currently underway all over the world. Enjoy!

I met Aly Bain at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 1976. They, The Boys of the Loch, were playing as well as my father, Norman Blake. He is one of the greatest fiddle players of all time. And the amount of whisky he could put away and stay vertical is epic.

Thank you all for your words, I'm glad you like it. The merit is not mine but Phil and Alan. It is said that Phil wrote this melody in a hotel in San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain) when he awakened at 4 am.

I just keep playing along all the time to this.as I love it . I am trying to put the emotion into it thats the difficult thing -its not so much the tune as just getting that special something.
@George56466 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I play my concertina along with masters like these and it can be so rewarding to feel their emotion in your own playing - which is difficult to create and experience with solo playing.
