My duncan colony was one of the first corals I added and it's beenthe most consistent coral I've kept - never given me any issues, no matter what problems I was having! I love that you can feed them as well and really see them responding. I found mine didn't grow much but I recently upgraded my tank and lighting and suddenly it has new polyps coming all over the place.

I have to work a day job until I get enough subscribers that can support me full time on KZbin. Then I could do more than one a week.😃 if you want more than one a week, figure out a way to share my vid‘s with as many people as you can to help grow the channel. 😃thanks again! How much kalkwasser in my ato like how much per gallon and what does it help with?
@TOMReefer9 ай бұрын
Start with 1/8 teaspoon per gallon and measure calc and alk for a week. If it’s not rising, then try 1/4 and so on, until you get the right weekly amount to keep your calc and Alk the same 👍🏻
@jtdr20233 жыл бұрын
Tom, what is your calcium levels in your tanks? I want to start dosing kalk but my calcium is 440. To high to dose kalk?
@TOMReefer3 жыл бұрын
Hey Joel, my calcium is about 450. Kalkwasser adds a few other advantages, like precipitating phosphate. You could add a small amount in your makeup water and see the results. Try 1/4 teaspoon per gallon in your makeup water. Even if your calcium rises, you you still will be ok.

Do you think the moonlight setting on the AI adds any benefits to the tank?
@TOMReefer3 жыл бұрын
Hi Louis, i can’t say for sure. A lot has been said about spawning on the moon cycles, however, spawning is not a great thing in a nano. But my guess is, it’s a bit of a gimmick. I’ve never used it. Maybe if you want some kind of a lighting effect in the evening hours? 😊
@Messier87_M873 жыл бұрын
The dunkin coral always reminds me of the elegance coral. I’ve always wanted a elegance coral. Tom, how many ml’s of 2 part dosing are you using on the 20 gallon waterbox? Would it be normal to dose unequal amounts if alkalinity drops a little faster than calcium?
@TOMReefer3 жыл бұрын
Hey Dave, I use 10ml of each per day spread out over two times. 11pm and 5 am. Putting unequal amounts of two part defeats the purpose of it. They work together. If your Alk is dropping faster increase both, or try a larger water change and see if that balances the two. 👍🏻

Question for Tom (an actual question this time!) I have a Dragon Soul Favia frag (one eye or head) and I love it. I recently noticed what I think is a tiny mushroom growing on a broken frag plug stem. Here's my question, can the two co-exist in a 20 gallon, and if so, how far apart should I keep them. I don't want a mushroom nuking my tank with toxins. Your thoughts good sir?
@TOMReefer3 жыл бұрын
Most coral with toxins is an issue of touching in most cases, but I always like to be safe. Just keep them far enough so if there is any growth over a long period of time, they won’t get to close. 👍🏻😊

Thanks Steven, I’ve been experimenting around with spreading out my “none content” antics. It’s amazing how many viewers only want content. But I feel I’ve reached a nice balance now. I see that reflected in my audience retention. I’m too much of a competitor. It’s too difficult to say F it. Higher audience retention means more growth, more views, and more ad revenue. I can’t keep doing all this for free 🤪😃👍🏻

I usually watch late at night or while my children are napping. Hi Albert, 😃 Check out Tidal Gardens, he’s spot on. He is a large coral farm, and has years of experience growing corals for sale. Just remember, there is however, some flow and growth rules that are not the same. Some corals adapt very well to different parameters. Lots of trial and error/success in reef keeping. But Than at Tidal Gardens is an expert, and has videos for ever coral. I’ve since found that medium flow is best for my Duncan’s since that video. 👍🏻😊

It’s best to find one reef keeper you trust and follow them. If you start looking at all different videos from different reef keepers it will get really confusing. My 15 g is doing HORRIBLE … I been in the hobby for 7 years and I still can’t figure out how to turn it around … I can’t get rid of algae on the rocks I think they are leaching nitrate and phosphate which is feeding the algae and not leaving anything left over for the corals. There was 0 nitrate and 0 phos in my water and I had Dino’s that I recently got rid of because of the low nutrients… so I started dosing NP plus by tropic Marin to add nitrate and phos … the tank looks horrible the corals looks terrible but are still alive. it’s 7 months old I should be past all this crappy stuff idk what to do anymore. I been staying away from waterchanges because it will jus bottom out my nutrients again. I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. This sucks.. I might have to start all over 😫😫😫🤣
@MrMatt96873 жыл бұрын
what kind of algae if its hair algae then stop dosing the NP because you are feeding the algae. I would start with a water change
@TOMReefer3 жыл бұрын
Hey botzz, sorry to hear. Look, I’m old school. I would never dose nutrients in my tank. I don’t care how much of a Dino problem I have. It takes a long time for any kind of nutrient based issue to resolve itself. If you are using API test, throw them away and get real tests. Salifert for nitrate, and Hanna for phosphate. Keep manually removing the unwanted algae on your rocks daily. And do weekly water changes. If you have Dino’s siphon them off the surface when you water change. 7 months is still a new tank. It may take months to resolve. But I would stop dosing N03 and PO4. 👍🏻
@Botzz283 жыл бұрын
@@TOMReefer I use Hanna for all my tests so it’s definitely accurate. I’ll do a partial water change with manual removal. I have had Dino’s many times before and I used to think like you and never dose anything but it has NEVER went away as fast as it did this time by adding these nutrients. I’ll hang on a bit longer and see what happens. Thanks !
