The wood grain tool is so helpful. One tip is paint a lighter wood color, and let it dry and then go back with a darker wood color and drag the tool lightly over it.

If you pull off your tape at a 90 degree angle ON THE SAME PLANE AS THE TAPE, it comes off easier and with fewer tears because the force is distributed over a greater area and the adhesive doesn't bond with the same strength at that angle. A hair dryer blowing ahead of your pull can also help.

Cling film: place a layer of plastic wrap or a cut-down plastic bag over the top of the can before you seal up the lid, this helps create a tight seal, creates a barrier against metal-to-metal corrosion, and also makes it easier to “cleanly” open the can when the time comes. If I have a paint can that’s still 3/4 full or completely full, I always store them upside down. Keeps the paint from creating that clumpy film on top. I worked for Benjamin Moore for years inside and outside sales. One of my favorite store managers was an old school woman Janette who had been in the business for 40+ years. God Bless that woman for mentoring me but Janette was known in our town that if you had a difficult paint job, or color match or maybe you royally screwed something up and your customer is furious, you would go to Janette. The wood grain hack definitely works. I saw her do this on tile before and I also saw her use two different stains before and did it on a fireplace mantle. I used to watch her in amazement.

While using painters tape on the top edge of a paint can; The 'V' can work with 'wide' tape, or you could lay the tape side by side to make it wider... Be sure to press the tape down on both the inner ring and the outer ring to create a seal on each... Like when you used that board for all three of your 'paint' projects. Painters tape is specifically made so you can press it down to prevent 'bleeding' under the tape, and still be able to pull it up. Personal preference as to if you pull the tape up while the paint is still wet or wait until it dries! I hope this makes sense! Thank you for making me, well, bellow with laughter at times!!!

Latex & acrylic tips Try using a glaze for the wood grain tool instead of full strength paint. Plus, the tips on other comments. Another way to marble is to brush the general lines on and spray it with a mist of isopropyl alcohol. Kind of like your spray paint & alcohol video. That will give a nice foggy edge plus a mottled effect. Then pull a thin brush through in some places to add dimension. Do small areas like 2 - 3 square feet to keep the wet edges. Use an ice cube tray to mix small batches of colors that you'll need throughout your project. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or foil & it will last up to a week. Use a rubber spatula to get the last of the paint out of a can. Dollar store has different sizes & shapes. - When the paint builds up at the top on the can despite being careful, run 2" tape around the top of the can & fold it over on the lid to create a seal. If you know it may be over a year before you'll need it, use a good duct tape, or the aluminum duct tape. That aluminum tape also is the best seal for caulk tubes! I enjoy your videos! I've only seen a few so far and subscribed!

Great tips. The trick with the dryer sheet does work. First you must start with very hot water, stir it well once the dryer sheet has time to release some of its good stuff. Every once in awhile pick up the brush and stir. Leave over night. Next day try brraking up the brush and do it again. I find it best if you can put a lid on it in order to keep the heat it. Patience is key and it may take a few times. It also works fantastic if you burn something in your pot. Never thought id ever get it cleaned until someone suggested the dryer sheet.I ran across your video today and your funny, talented and witty. I'll be checking your channel out.

That will allow the paint to flow back into the can of paint after you are done pouring the paint out of the can. Try using rubbing alcohol to remove fairly fresh acrylic paint from things. Love knowing Matte medium will keep paint from going under take when making tape lines. Thanks!

Murphy's Oil Soap is supposed to remove dried paint. I don't think you add water. Leave overnight. I see people commenting on it all the time. I'm pretty good about not letting paint dry in my brushes. I put them in a water jar if I have to take a break. And then just use another brush when I start up again. Or, if I have to, I have a special sponge to absorb the water and then dry it with paper towels so it doesn't water down the paint.

I had a van, years ago, which I used as a test for painting techniques. For the instrument cluster panel (close to the size of the glove compartment door) ... I took both out of the van. Then I painted them both the same color. Then for the hack, I took plastic (I used the scrap from model car building) ... I held the instrument cluster and glove box door (freshly painted sides facing down ...) lit on fire, the plastic, and held it beneath the fresh paint ... so that the spidery smoke ... only ... landed on the fresh paint. Then I let the paint dry ... and once fully dry, I clear coated the items. The result, was wispy, smoke on the paint, and the clear, just kept the smoke from wiping off. A real cool easy and cheap effect, for smaller pieces. Though I contemplated a larger area, on the side of the van, using the same technique, but with a very slow fan, or possibly even blowing through a straw, gently pushing the smoke onto the paint.

I've seen the wood grain tool at the hardware store but never picked one up. Nice to see it in action. You just recreated 1991 @4:00 - Just needs neon paint! I see a silver panel and I want to paint it black! - i should try that marbling on a model car roof. @11:21 - You can use a hammer and small nail to punch a little hole in the lip of the paint can to let the paint drain back into the can. When you put the lid back on, it will seal the hole. - they also make a rubber spout that you can put in the paint can lid. Those should be in the hardware store in the paint section. Laquer thinner will dissolve the hardened paint from your brushes. I've used that a few times. Just wear a respirator. @21:00 - I don't think God ever intended for a paint brush to work that way! Hey...you should have used the WD-40 cap on your motor cycle helmet. @25:54 - I hope that's "Sandal Power" activating and not foot odor. LOL!

Try using a wooden handle paint brush. You're plastic one, had a gap in it.. I think that's why it oozed out on the sides. It should be solid, so the paint has nowhere to go.

WD-40 is great for cleaning metal and removing label glues. You have to let it set on the label for awhile before it will loosen the glue.

I use WD40 to clean the polyurethane off my paint brushes. Spray it on and wack it, slap it back and forth on a telephone pole or a board. Cleans the brush like new again.

Instead of putting the paint rainbow on your brush, put spots of paint across your sample board. Much neater and more controllable.

Wondering where the yellow and orange went? Look at your brush. The yellow and orange mixed with the green at the end of the brush. You needed a lot more of those 2 colors at the end to separate themselves. In this case, they just mixed and you're lucky you didn't get brown. If you don't get your color to the end of your brush, it's going to mix with the adjacent colors and you'll never see the ones you put down. Check out the image of the brush at 6:33. Tells you all you need to know.

The bottle glued to the brush is hilarious. I wonder if whoever came up with that was just trolling, or if they legitimately believed it would help.

another tip, my stepdaughter paints houses, and she uses the green frog tape for crisp lines, but if she doesn't have it she just lays down the tape and puts a very thin layer of any crap caulk she has over her tape and the edge to be painted, but you should scuff pad the area or the paint will most likely peal off to the edge of the caulk, i've seen that happen

I didn't find the link to the tape that you used to make the crisp lines and the gesso or whatever product that you put over the tape
