Dundee Airports first new route in years. (Dundee to Sumburgh Shetland - Loganair)

For the firs time in over 3 years Dundee Airport is getting a new route. Dundee to Sumburgh in shetland. Loganair is operating an ATR-42 from dundee airport to the shetland islands.
Loganair is now using Dundee airport to create and airbridge between London City Airport and Sumburgh Airport in the shetland islands allowing a nonstop service between the two for the first time in years. Logan air is using an ATR 42 on this route from Dundee to shetland originating in London City Airport so follow me as we take the first flight and review this new route between Dundee and Shetland.

I was surprised when I was telling friends i was doing this trip that they said they didn't know Dundee had an airport. Would love to see more routes from Dundee even if they are just domestic.

Dundee used to have a route to Amsterdam. The airline then backed out giving some crazy excuse about it being a bit difficult to operate with the local air traffic. Strange, since the same airline still continue to use the airport for the London route yet obviously haven't had the same problems which I can't understand since they're taking off and landing at the same runway with the same amount of very little air traffic. I'll give this route a few months before it is cancelled.

Yeah for sure. its a very underutilized airport. Hopefully we will see some European routes return soon.

Yes they are! From my understanding that is one of the big drivers that has lead them to purchase 20+ ATR's to simply the fleet as maintenance costs across the fleet are a big cost factor for them at the moment. We will have to wait and see if the price comes down once the older Saab 340 are retired. I also know that there is an essential air service price reduction of up to 50% for people living in the highlands and Islands.

May 2024. I have just checked out the cost as I was inspired by this video to maybe try them out: £400 return. OUCH. I can get to the Canary Islands and back for a quarter of that. Suffice to say I won't be using Loganair any time soon...
