Agreed, although I think it's still extremely good even on a small screen. It's unfortunate for those who didn't take the chance to see it in the theatre though, it's one of the fairly few films where it's essential that you experience it with a great audio and visual system at least once.

So they were absolutely bombarded with new emotions and experiences. Everything aboht the intro is perfect. Did anyone else notice how the transitions between scenes in these 10 minutes are really well done? As soon as a subject is spoken of Denis shows them, and the subject is always related to the previous one. Paul thinks about Chani - Fremen - Spice - Imperium and guild - Herald of the change. Watching this in IMAX was like a psychedelic experience. The film grips you and doesn't let go, from the very first second with its message of dreams all the way to the end. It drags you into deep, dark places without the refuge of lightness typical in Hollywood films. I felt like I left my body and when the movie ended I came back and had a hard time processing my feelings and what it meant, but I knew it was deep and profound. It was also, of course, incredibly imaginative and beautiful visually.

Seeing this in IMAX was probably the most perfect experience I’ve ever had in a theater. The crowd was dead silent. You could tell that the entire audience was laser-focused on the film because of how unbelievably outstanding the sound design, score, and visuals were for this film, and how seeing it in the IMAX format made it a practically spiritual experience. When I watched it for the second time on HBO max, I cranked my soundbar volume all the way up and turned all the lights off. I just can’t watch this movie without the maximum settings of whatever it’s being displayed on. I love this movie so much.

After seeing this at the cinema, watching this opening here has let me appreciate a lot more of the details. Stuff like the fact the Emperor's herald has a ship shaped like the glowglobes they use for light just seems to be a nice little insight as to how they see themselves, and that closeup of Leto's ring as a badge of office is a good way of letting us know its importance without beating us around the head with dialogue.

Going through the comments, I fear a lot of viewers did not get the experience they could have had. The audio in this movie is so much more than what a simple sound bar or TV speakers can provide. If you saw it in theater, well then you have to applaud the sound engineers for a master piece. The director of Dune also directed Blade Runner 2049 and I did not know that when I first watched Dune. In fact, I said to myself "This gives me Blade Runner 2049" vibes" and had to go look it up. Its not all the time we get a movie that not only looks great, but sounds even greater. The audio is what draws you in and makes you feel a part of the movie. VERY well done.

Exactly! Usually when scifi/fantasy movies open with one big narrated exposition dump its almost always terrible and boring but lotr and dune knew precisely what needed to be said then and what could be kept hidden for later on, kept it short and had amazing visuals. 6:36 okay this sequence of shots blows my mind. The frigate is tiny compared to the maw of the Heighliner, but when it lands you find that it's actually as big as a skyscraper. I'm trying to guess how big that makes the Heighliner and I'm guessing it's _at least_ a hundred km long. Jesus.

We need the mentats explained and Paul's training as a mentat. We need Feyth Rautha, which is confirmed already. The one scene I'm worried about is Jessica's initiation. I don't know how they'll be able to do that well, including how it affects Alia. Well, I have the same worry about Paul's "coma".

@@pseudonymousbeing987 I mean the visions, the inner experiences of Paul and Jessica during the "coma" and her initiation. The movie was extraordinary but that was one of the few things I thought was not good enough in the film. Denis can do better than that and I hope he does.
@pseudonymousbeing987
@pseudonymousbeing987 2 жыл бұрын
@@abstractnonsense3253 Well I think part 2 is the place those visions will actually happen on a grand scale and that's the reason we didn't see them in part 1. The spice agony and water of life are completely different beasts to sniffing spice in a tent. I agree it's a shame that we didn't get a taste of it in part 1 in the couple spots we could have. But since part 2 will feature many scenes where it's absolutely pivotal to the entire narrative I hope we get some thoughtful visuals that build on things like the storm vision which I think had some nice sand imagery with the eyelash lense flares. I'm excited for it because the combination of image and sound can do wonders and they have the opportunity to go absolutely bonkers with it, and furthermore they have the talent that can accomplish those wonders.

Because Irulan is a snobbish aristocratic heir who doesn't even do anything until the very last (or second-last) chapter (imo)! By contrast, Chani holds a very deep connection to Arrakis and the struggles of the Fremen, we feel connected to Chani moreso because Chani as a narrator is not implicated in the oppression/colonial exploitation/imperialism etc perpetrated by The Guild, Bene Gesserit, Emperor, Harkonnens, etc.
