If I’ve said it before then I’ll say it again, Zack Snyder is a visual genius. For an opening that doesn’t have a single word spoken until at least 6 minutes into it and yet can tell a more in-depth story than the entirety of Josstice League, I would definitely call that a win. And I mean seriously look at what is happening in this scene. Superman dies and screams are heard across the planet, and even across the stars, given the fact that Steppenwolf was alerted to a Mother Box waking up. And not only that, but Superman’s screams wake up all of the Boxes, giving the signal for Steppenwolf and Darkseid to arrive. See, if you wanted to allow continuity to exist between films, then offering a visual expansion of what is happening in the middle of a big battle such as this or showing its repercussions is a brilliant method of setting up the events of the current film. It not only fills in a lot of the story without needlessly adding filler stories into the mix, it also helps the audience understand what exactly is happening. It shows that Snyder not only has respect for effective visual storytelling, but also has respect for the audience without being completely explicit in what it is trying to say. What I mean by that is while this moment does in fact explain why Steppenwolf and Darkseid come to Earth, it’s not being explicit when it shows us that. It’s showing, not telling. And that is really one of Snyder’s greatest assets as a director. He is better at showing rather than telling. I know I’m on a rant and if any of what I’ve just said doesn’t make any sense, I apologize. I just go crazy for stuff like this, and it appeals to my idea of a true cinematic experience and storytelling rather than just having it be blasted in your face with a flurry of unnecessary CGI craziness (yes I’m pointing fingers at MCU). Edit: I just watched the scene where Bruce and Luthor were in the prison together and Luthor went on a rant about “the bell.” And now that I’ve watched Zack Snyder’s Justice League, I’m even more impressed by how interconnected Snyder’s vision actually was. If you listen carefully to the music playing in the background during the Luthor’s bell rant, you can hear the faint sound of Clark’s screams echoing in the background. And when we watch this opening scene, there was a reason for that sound being mixed in there. Luthor heard Clark’s screams echoing in the dark, cementing the fact that he achieved what he wanted, but he also let loose a tidal wave of destruction in its wake.

Lois Lane is indeed the key and the "ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE" right when Ray is in the frame because he do be the heart of the JL. Even the title placements in the opening credits have a specific reason.
