Very good review, I love that you gave a history recap of the franchise. I didn't know Villinuve did Prisoners and I love that movie.

I think you are one of very few reviewers who pronounced all the names correctly, plus adding the "AG" (After Guild) on the date 10191. Quite a feat, actually, so thank you very much for your thoughts. I also enjoyed your take on the horrific wardrobe in the Dune TV-mini-series, the worst being the Sardaukar, who looked like they were going to a French ballet. The 2003 TV-mini-series, Children of Dune (as you stated, combined Dune Messiah and Children of Dune) toned down the wardrobe as much as they could and did a solid job with the story and expanded Princess Irulan's role. The Dune mini-series really expanded Irulan's role (not a bad thing as Julie Cox was excellent in the role). While the special effects were minimal, it is the only adaptation that showed the internal heat "engine" of the worm (which creates oxygen, making human life possible). Over the past 5 decades, I've read Dune 5 times and listened to 2 audiobooks. I've read the other 5 Dune novels, and Children of Dune twice. God Emperor of Dune was the hardest for me to get into, and I think the hardest of Herbert's novels to bring to the screen for obvious reasons. All-in-all, I thought Denis Villeneuve's vision of Dune was amazingly wonderful in so many ways. Frank Herbert finally got the treatment he, and fans of the novel deserve.

I usually like to do a huge amount of research when the review calls for it. In this case the research was VERY much needed. Thankfully I was already a fan of the novels and was familiar with all of the correct pronunciations.

Fantastic film. I wish the banquet scene was included. Maybe a bit more on the mentats. But I think it is a wonderful vessel for book fans to pour their knowledge into. Visually.

Couldn't agree more. I especially am surprised they didn't elaborate more on the Mentats, especially also their distinct red lips in the book, or Dr. Huey's blue lips which have been in none of the adaptations.
