One of the aspects of Dune that I find so compelling is what aspects of human culture Herbert (or in this case Denis Villenueve) choose to survive into the distant future. After nearly 20,000 years, what artifacts transcend human experience and what gets lost to time? The bagpipe has deep roots in various European military traditions. The great highland bagpipe has a history of following the British Empire wherever they colonized and forcing its way into the local musical tradition. There’s a reason that the world’s #1 bagpipe manufacturer is Pakistan. Just like British imperial forces arrived to the Middle East to the tune of bagpipes, so does House Atredis to Arakkis. By this point, the bagpipes are an ancient symbol of imperialism, connecting this story’s conflict to the millennia of imperial conflict that came before it.
@stevetheduck142511 ай бұрын
Many countries have bagpipes, or bagpioe-like instruments, such as the French cour du musette. @@stevetheduck1425 oh I know, In the movie they were shown playing the great highland bagpipe and that’s what I was referring to. Should have been more specific. Who else is here because Guthrie Govan revealed the bagpipes on this are him playing them on guitar through the Axe FX?

I was high as FUCK watching this for the first time and I was so goddamn confused at the random Bagpipes guy who’s only seen in that single shot and never again even when they show where he would’ve walked off to

I love the little details in this film. Being former U.S. Army 13A. At 0:21, the Asian senior NCO, a 'top' 1SGT or SGM or CSM. But you know its a senior NCO. They carry different from officers, they walk slightly different. There is an aura about them of "DNFWM".

After Paul's story i definetly need next trilogy about Leto II.

Honestly Josh Brollin could have said anything before those pipes and it would have been badass like *Ramp drops* "its dusty.." *Pipes start*

This background score really did justice to the ceremonial-arrival-of-the-royalties vibe.

But in my opinion they don't let the bagpipe player play alone for a while and then start with the orchestra

The dune movies are great. I really really hope the rest of them are rated R and very graphic and epic.

It's a big deal to take a characteristic instrument and create unusual and unique music with it. They did a wonderful job. Now all we need is the Egyptian military band rui- I mean, perform this. So it can take its place in history as a legendary anthem.

I just hope we can see more Gurney citing more poetry before battle in the future arrangements

Knowing the actual sound of the first bagpipe in this scene is Guthrie Govan playing a guitar synth imitating a bagpipe just warms my heart.
