I know we have this endless psychodrama about whether it's a tunnel or not, and I think it is meant to be a tunnel (that was Denis' intention), but the effect is waayy too subtle in my opnion. I haven't read the book for years but this isn't how I imagined it working when I read it. However the idea of it as a tunnel is very cool and interesting, he needed like, an extra 3 seconds of extablishing shots showing more clearly that it was happening. Maybe a larger planet could have made it more obvious.

Without Part 2, this first movie is entertaining enough on its own.
