Dune Part 2: Does it Live Up to the Hype? (Review)

Dune: Part 2 is finally out, so let's talk about it. I've been a huge fan of Denis Villeneuve for years and it is exciting to see him spearhead such a giant project. Does he succeed though?

i am a dunehead too, and deplore the absence of various characters/scenes. but, nitpicking aside, this is Cinema. and a labor of love, it shows on the screen. ok bye, nice review, gotta go get ready for my 3rd viewing :)).

I went to see this with a group of friends who had never even heard of Dune before the first movie came out and some of them had only seen the first movie in the run up to Part 2's release. This was the first movie I had come out of where the average cinema goer was voicing appreciation on the same level as I would. People who normally wouldn't care for the technical aspects of movies were blown away by, and dissecting them. Any movie that can do that is powerful in my opinion and any movie that makes people want to pick up the books because they can't wait to see where the story goes is worthy of praise. I adored the movie myself, but I think its effect on others who are less invested in the source material or the art of filmmaking as a whole is a testament to its quality, and is greater than any praise I could give it.

@@TruestPicture One of my friends did say the now cliché "I feel like I've walked out of Empire in 1980." line. And I think if handled correctly this series could be the next Lord of the Rings, and I don't say that as hyperbole. I'm just hoping they only adapt Frank Herbert's works and steer clear of Brian Herbert's attempts at writing.

I watched it without having seen the first movie or read the books. I just watched a summary video of the first movie. And yet I loved this movie so much. We got to know the characters and the complexity of their world, the way Paul changed and grew into the Fremen's eyes. I left the cinema feeling impressed, amazed and wanting to have more of that world. I'll be reading the books soon

Dune part 1 was definitely underwhelming. Dune part 2 still left story elements wanting (obviously) but I feel they really leaned into the sweeping audio visual narrative in the best way possible. This movie left me with an alternative experience of Dune that was true to the book on almost a spiritual level, as if I were hearing and watching the soul of my favorite series come to life. It's hard to explain but it completely gripped me and it was so much better and so different than what I expected or even hoped for ❤

It was definitely missing some things, but I liked how they ran with it. I Felt very confused leaving the theatre, as I found no major flaws with anything, and yet didn’t feel overly amazed, not even for those big visual scenes. I need to watch it two more times I think. Definitely a GOOD movie. I think Messiah will be totally different from the book, and have Chani kill Paul at the end in the white robe she wears in his visions of her in part one. We’ll see in half a decade

That's why I started remote work several hours early on Friday, Mar. 1, so that I had time to sprint to the nearest theatre during lunchtime to get the Zinc Group Dune popcorn bucket with sandworm top as well as some shopping done! By the time I returned to the theatre in the evening, the stock was completely cleaned out!
