Standard Hero's Journey? I hope you expand on that in the spoiler cast because it slightly feels like you might not have truly grasped the subtext.

Don't worry, Part 3 will shake everyone still with the belief that Paul's a hero either way, lol. (Dunno if you've read the second book, if so - spoiler warning): I mean there's that scene where Paul's talking to Stilgar about Hitler and Genghis Khan, I'm pretty sure if they keep that it will single-handedly end any and all confusion over whether Paul's the good guy - lol.

I was laughing to myself when you brought up watching with people who had never seen the first movie, because that was my exact experience 😂 the person next to me was asking questions at pivotal moments and I was trying not to get triggered

Absolutely loved Dune 2 and a great discussion on the film adaption (halfway through). Not sure if you are familiar with the books, but considering how much lore, worldbuilding, character complexity that's not covered from the 1st book, a TV series could easily have 8-10 hours worth of content just for that book.

There was more than enough Harkonnen time in the film. These creeps don’t need more glorification. I am glad also that the Baron and Rabban are quickly terminated unceremoniously-with no dignity and as trash deserve…

I fully agree about Harkonnens and Austin Butler as Feyd. Their aesthetics and the homage to HR Giger, the sequence shot in infrared camera... It was just on another level. I agree that they have stolen the show and unfortunately there wasn't enough of them in the movie. Giedi Prime was brutal, yet extraordinary crafted world of darkness, depravity, cruelty and decadence... Yet the way it was shot was just Art.
