Hi guys. I read the book in the 1980's in my early teens. I'm about the same age as Denis so I'm guessing we read it about the same time in our own lives. The Dune novel changed my life as to what reading a book and buying into it's story was about. It was a very hard book to read, but extremeley rewarding if you put the work in. It has stayed with me a lifetime. Myself and my friends who loved the book were so looking forward to David Lynch's version and although it wasn't perfect. It did have a lot of great scenes etc. that were very faithful to the book. To that point it was also the only version of Dune we had on film. I am a huge Denis Villeneueve fan and have been watching his movies since Enemy. That film still puzzles me now, but I love it. When it was announced Denis was going to Direct Dune I was so happy because after seeing the sequel to Bladerunner (best Sci Fi flick candidate ever. IMO), Bladerunner 2049. I knew he would do a great job. Both parts are the complete journey and I love them both for very different reasons and they are different types of movies. Denis deserves an Oscar for the 2 films together. Cinema perfection.

The Timothee/Leo comparisons always ring hollow to me because I just don't think Timothee is as likable as early Leo. Timothee has a really expressive face, but there's no charisma there. He reminds me of Christian Bale - solid grade A actor, skilled at his craft, but no charisma. Austin Butler is more like early Leo, in a way. He has such a likable energy, even when he's playing horrible people.

Only if you turn off your brain and you are totally brain dead. People had standards you known. World building. Context. Substance. This movies have barely any of that, they are a wasteland, like the Star Wars Sequels, but with crumbs of world building, the pretty visuals is only a distraction for the total lack of lore.
