One problem with the 2021 version is that the fight occurs before the Fremen reach the local shelter and it is in stillsuits. In the book, the challenge is given after the patrol reaches the shelter and water cistern and the fight is in loin clothes and out of the suits. Jamis is killed and they render his body and his water empties into the cistern. The water is measured and the water tokens go to the winner as the return for the loss of water through sweat during the fight. Paul then asks Chani to keep the water tokens for him, not knowing it is a step in the process of wooing a mate. They then leave that night for the Stietch. The miniseries did a better job of following both the book and setting the scene for later Paul and Chani scenes.
