That first scene with Zendaya smiling at the camera then looking out onto the battlefield gave me chills when I first watched it in the theater. The contrast of the peacefulness transitioning into war. It was masterful. Hans Zimmer’s music was beyond perfect!

I agree, personally feel like Zimmer is over used these days and sometimes gets a bit more hype than deserved, but THIS movie is not one of those cases! The soundtrack in this really helps drive the movie and lends so much weight to what is happening on screen.

Additionally, when Paul fought Jamis (for example) he was initially trying not to kill him before he was informed that it was a fight to the death and killing wasn't optional. And even after that, he was reluctant to cross that line because he had never killed before. As a result, his actions were probably a lot messier and less refined than they otherwise might have been, because there is a big difference between training to potentially kill someone and actually doing it for the first time...

@@JuanitoK556 I can’t see them doing messiah tbh. As unfortunate as it is, messiah doesn’t have much action. It’s just a lot of plot development with diff characters interacting. There’s maybe 2 crazy scenes, one where the nuke “stone burner” blinds Paul and then when he “kills” scytale in the Sietch. It’s not that I don’t want to see these books be fully adapted but knowing how studios are they wouldn’t push it through due to not being able to “capture mainstream audiences” non readers won’t have a clue what’s going on unless Denis really manages to fluff certain things up or add things in. I’m still a huge fan but I can honestly only see part 2 being the last one they make, show the Jihad and then see where it goes from there.

Ok, everyone get ready for this. Some spoilers ahead. This scene is Muad'dib reencountering Gurney Halleck and fighting his men. Notice how the sky is now blue and not sand colored. When you have been exposed to the spice and your eyes have the blue in blue, the sky of arrakis appears blue tinted. Wow incredible foresight and understanding from Villeneuve. The layers within layers. It's the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed.

Those are Sardaukars, not smugglers. The Fremen also didn't use a worm in the fight with the smugglers. I am sure this is just a vision of a war with the emperor. Remember that Paul's prescience is still just developing when this happens. So it is entirely possible he sees a war, but not an actual event that is to happen. This is further supported by the fact that he sees Chani on the cliff in this scene. That never happens (imagine Chani stepping out of the sietch without a still suit).
@AjayBrahmakshatriya

Also because in the fight with the smugglers, Paul doesn't actually fight anyone. He goes straight to Gurney to ask him to order his people to put down their weapons.

It was at this part that I understood this wasn't a tale of heroes, fairness and equality. The schemes came to stay, claim as many as possible... and that's it. The one true hero (Paul's father) is gone. And it appears no more were born to continue where he left off. Paul is the false messiah of his father's house.

One critic in my country commented how Lady Jessica was vunerable in her portrayal in this movie, a side that according to him wasn't in her personality and while he disaprovees he is ok with that. At the time when I"ve seen the review, I hadn't read the book, but coudn't disagree more with his critic; her vunerability adds more to Jessica, and made me like her character even more, she not just a strong and smart woman but also a mother that cares about Paul, a mother that goes in conflict with her Sect and defends what she belives is the best path for son's rule. Maybe this all her narcisist personality? Maybe, but I don't think she is a narcisist mother, she is actually suffering seeing her son scared of the visons yet to come, and oh boy Ferguson nails it.
@vincent1420
@vincent1420 2 жыл бұрын
and the whole conflict with jessica is her feeling torn between duties to her sisterhood and duties to her son/husband. emphasising her vulnerability more in the movie, where we don’t access to her inner dialogue like we do in the books, is a clearer way to show that conflict.

I agree with the critic. She is Bene Gesserit. She's trained to contain those emotions. This is why any criticism of Lynch's use of internal voice is dumb. In Dune you have to have their internal thoughts delivered into the audience because everyone is stoic and in control all the time.

@@natepenyaa9406 Dude, it doesn't matter why, having voice over narration in movies, especially how Dune 1984 handled it, it just fucking awful. If I wanted to hear someone whisper information at me I'd watch an ASMR video on youtube, not a feature length film.

@@natepenyaa9406 Having her be more emotional makes her a far more compelling character in the film though. It was a a good decision from that standpoint. Very similar to how the LOTR films made Aragorn reluctant to take up his crown and destiny. Having stoic characters with no vulnerabilities who never make mistakes is boring in a film.
