More so. While not adhering to the book Canon down to the letter, these two adaptations of the first in Herberts OG series pass the muster.... .... save for the posthumous stuff this series is just stellar . forget Brian Herbert and all hes written its cheesy and doesnt vibe with his dad's original message and tone....so maybe I'm bias..... ....but I loved these new movies...They are enthralling and the second part is masterpiece. The first is an instant classic in my book. .....Scfi wise they will be counted on the G.O.A.T short list for SCFI in film, imo. ..... having a timeless msg and adhering to human nature in the most realistic way imo out of any other franchise movie or book...Foundation bores me to tears.....I'm a fan nowadays of Non Fiction history and astronomy, astro physics if im reading fiction its to reread Dune, ASIAF,Wolf Hall,Anne Rice Vampire Series so idk about new scfi but Dune was rlly only scfi that ever was interesting to me when it comes to written word but still SO MUCH CREDIT IS DUE TO HERBERT Dune makes Star Wars seem childish, Foundation seem like unnecessary drudgery having to read such boring prose if not unbelievable as well in comparison and dont get me started on Harry Potter .....adults are speaking please leave the room lol.....

Some things needed to be squished in - inevitable consequence of adapting a book, but things like the almost non existing chemistry between Zendaya and Tim... Most likely because she is not a good actor and Tim is picking up the pace, he did good. Bardem was entertaining and did extremely well playing this character, Stilgar is really likeable dad figure type of character. I wished to see more scenes with him and the overall ark felt a bit rushed towards the end of the movie. Especially the indoctrination by his mother in order to bend the believes and seek Pol as their leader and almost a god like figure.

After watching Part Two, its truly a masterpiece of its own. 1984 Dune retains a much classic theatrical adaptation and matching the books, while the 2024 Dune is much more on a grander scale aided by technology that was unavailable previously. While i say the 1984 portrays a much more bizarre and sometimes unpleasant direction, i feel the script, dialogue, and masterful prop and art direction helped immensely considering the time back then. 2024 tops all adaptations and so far my best movie of the year where i would watch it multiple times. Yet the 1984 serves as an inspiration and in my opinion should be considered as a classic of Sci-fi movies

What's even cooler is in the books, it is more understood why the spacing guild tells him not to speak, and why Mohaim told Paul the same thing. They are prescient too, in the future they want certain things cant be said/done. So when a character speaks, it is LITERALLY altering the future. Its pretty cool, and I hope Villeneuve can figure out how to implement that.

Honestly, I think this version did a better job than DUNC with this scene. Feyd-Rautha is more maniacal, the Emperor is more indignant, Paul has cooler lines, the knife fight has better practical choreography. "Try looking into that place where you dare not look. You will find me there staring back at you." That line alone is pure gold. I don't even think it's from the book. *edit Apparently that line is straight from the book.

I have to say, having just today watched Dune 2 at the Imax, and having loved it, this scene by Lynch still delivers. Different, of course, but that little quote from Paul about bending like a reed, and the grisliness of Feyd’s death are very effective.

@@sjames5027 You speak wisdom. But, in truth, the entirety of the world revolves around trending pop. Always did. The sad part is that shit came up top somehow, and its the main demand these days. Its a paradox thats been around for ages. We just need to keep in mind whats right and whats wrong. Atleast the few of us.
@sjames50274 жыл бұрын
Nikola Milovanvic What's trending is dictated by the Elite, not the masses. The occult message has always been there, it was just more subtle in the past. Look at some early movies like "Splash", about a very masculine "woman", Daryl Hannah, Trans-forming. Or here with Dune, Paul is in a universe divided between the feminine and masculine forces of the sisterhood and the spacing guild, through this symbolism gender is portrayed as the source of all conflict and division. Paul was meant to be born a woman but he's a man by the decision of his witch mother. He becomes a super being who brings peace to the universe when he blends the feminine "Water of Life" with his masculine energy and becomes superior to all women and men. The gender neutral being portrayed as superior. Paul is literally portrayed as "bringing balance to the force", because that's what the force is in Star Wars, Yin and Yang, male and female, the gender neutral agenda. When you balance the forces you neutralise them.

Dialogue and fight choreography wise, I think 1985 is more closer to the book than 2024 in this last scene. But at the same time, 2024 was fucking amazing, especially in IMAX. That “SILENCE” was something you could feel in your bones. At first, I disliked the fight choreography happened in 2024, but overtime I came to love it because it sorta mirrored Paul and Gurney’s sparring in part one.

People can criticize as much as they want for stuff being cheesy, but attention David Lynch paid to details from book is astonishing. Even such little details as Reverent Mother Mohiam having metal teeth. Everything mostly goes beat by beat as in the book, only with fluff being cut away.
@Infiny92 Жыл бұрын
Lynch wasn't faithful to the book spirit at all. It actually betrays it in many important places, such as the messiah theme. And on a more superficial level, what about these dumb weirding modules?
@AdamMichalMarkowski Жыл бұрын
@@Infiny92 I mean you can take them away from the movie and barely anything will change. I'll be honest with you - I forgot those were in the movie. If anything it seems like Lynch just decided to add it either for flavour, or decided weirding way won't translate best into the movie, but still wanted to include it. Messianic theme - you are talking about rain literally falling in the ending, right? Yeah, I do think it was too on the nose, but probably also in line how most movies were made back in the day. Also if we take only original Dune book into consideration - said messianic theme is much more ambigious. Missionaria Protectiva is mentioned but at the end of the day Paul does fill the prophercy almost to the letter and if I remember correctly it was never implied he did it out of opportunism - it was indeed - according to his visions best way to move forward. Later books added golden path and made whole messianic theme much more of a bad thing which was voiced by Stilgar's thoughts when he doubted Paul in Dune's Messiah and in the end started to really despise new way of life Paul introduced Fremen to in Children of Dune, but I do not remember him being critical of Paul in first book, so correct me if I am wrong. Also it seems Denis Villeneuve is going into similliar direction if we judge it based on trailers for second part. Sure, Chani seems to be doubtful there but there is a feel of cautious optimism regarding Pauls actions and Arrakis future.
