how fantastic was that little kid in this episode?? he had a lot of different acting tasks to do in very little screen time. as you talk about the muckiness of the importance of the marriage dealing w/ the emperor, that ground-level political stuff in Dune history & lore is always the most murky kinda hand-wavey stuff in Dune. in Dune, the dealings of rulers and vassals is equivalent to the dealings of soldiers and thieves in other stories. Like the subplot of a Game of Thrones sellsword or knight has the same role in Dune that a Duke or an Emperor has. Specifically in this episode, weirdly, the imperial family is meant to be the most relatable audience analogs. The emperor, the empress, and the princess all are kinda struggling while the Bene Gesserit, the weird newcomer, and some weird metaphysical 3rd force are operating on and above them. and on the largest vaguest scale if you want a keystone to orient you to a Dune character, just look at 1) their belief about who is wrongly controlling humanity and 2) the specific "answer" or specific tool they have to "better" humanity. that's the whole ballgame. what do individuals at large lose in the time it takes a powerful person to use their tool to "save" "free" or "better" humanity? tools and control, and the cost. that's Dune. btw dune isn't even a top fandom i purely just like the macro story and lore, which is much more relevant to real life than most fantasy.
