I love the world of Dune and I was so tempted to back the KS campaign. I’m glad I did not though due to replayability. It is all done on a set map. I know there are different alternative scenarios, but that doesn’t change the fact that the map does not change. Maybe this would be good playing with other people, but not for me!

The good thing about opinions is you're allowed to be wrong! 😜 I enjoy a game with this structure so I can try new approaches. I don't really play any game often enough to worry about replayability. Thanks for your thoughts.

Great video! I love the designers, they make great games. I just wish we weren't in the era where everything has to have minis. Much like War of the Rings, the board ends up being too big trying to accommodate the figures. I'd much rather take the "Or Not" part of the publishers name, so I'd have a reasonably sized footprint. I just got it today and when I set it up I realized it was so big as to be unplayable. By the time you find a table to set it up on, you can't sit and play. You are forever jumping up to look at this, or reach over their grabbing a mini. With counters the board could be half the size, and it would still be pretty big.
@TabletopKnights7 ай бұрын
Is there a game that you think has the same amount of depth but with a smaller footprint? What would you use to replace the minis?
@SoloBattles6 ай бұрын
@TabletopKnights cardboard counters. The board could be half the size. Then it all works fine. I have War of the Ring and battle of five armies, same designer, same basic system (action dice and two decks for each player). I rarely play War of the Ring because of its size. I play battle of five armies much more because it doesn't have such a big foot print. I wish both of those games had counters instead of minis. The minis barely fit on the boards as is. I used to be into painting, but not any more. I would rather have nice counters than unpainted minis. I play so many games that it isn't worth it to spend more time painting than playing.
@GearAnthiils2 ай бұрын
26:32 I don’t think that particular prescience card works that way. As you just said it, Atreides player can reveal any token anytime , meaning even in end of the round phase. That is the moment where you have to reveal it. Otherwise, I guess the card would have been a “During action resolution phase”.
@nicolasXsalocin8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tutorial. I think in your example of battle (surprise attack) there is a mistake. In order to attack, a legion must be adjacent to the target. In your example I believe the Harkonnen are attacking from a non adjacent area - which is not possible.
@TabletopKnights8 ай бұрын
I think that's where they use the ornithopter to attack. Which is allowed.

When I paint my figures I’m going to paint the bases to make it easier to distinguish between the different units. Basic units will have dark green and dark red. Generic leaders will have the color of the ally factions (since they count as ally leaders). And the named leaders will have metallic colors matching their factions (gold for Fremen, green metal for Atreides, red metal for Harkonnen, and silver for Corrino). I may use other colors for the expansion figures, since they have special rules.
@TabletopKnights8 ай бұрын

@fan-i-am8 ай бұрын

@WideMouth8 ай бұрын
@@fan-i-am The elites will probably also be dark green and dark red. The shape of the bases already helps distinguish regulars, elites, and special elites. However, I may change my mind after playing the game a few times. Maybe I’ll paint the sides of the elites’ bases green and red and the tops of the bases yellow and light gray, to match the unit symbols.

Gameplay Question: does the Wild Maker card stay in play on the Atreides dashboard from round to round even after the Wild Maker has been used and removed from the board?
@TabletopKnights7 ай бұрын
It's treated like every other named leader. The special is used once per round, remove and flip to inactive and refresh at end of round. However the card will stay if the special is not used. So if just used as a worm, the card stays where it is.

@@TabletopKnights but they can't pushed/transport/scout anything that isn't connected to that zone?

@@simonb4689The “zone” just means the tiny space the air unit occupies. The air zones all bridge two sectors together and can operate anywhere within those two sectors.
@anemptyeye6 ай бұрын
zone = 1 space on the board. *sector* = many zones, marked by a dotted line boundary. the air spaces sit on the boundaries between two sectors and can be used for either sector. this also matters for prescience cards that require no (or some) imperial legions in the same *sector* as your units @@simonb4689

Very good tutorial. I absolutely love the game and the designers are among my favorites. BUT I'll probably sell this one on because it is just too big to setup, and even if you have the room, there is no way to sit comfortably and play the game. You always are standing up to reach things and see details. This is all necessary to accommodate the minis. With counters, you could get by with half the board size. I know folks are in to minis, but there comes a point where it is too much. The company is called cool minis or not, I wish they'd live up to their name and make a non-minis version that people could actually play.
