Here in California because of our regulation changes due to whale entanglement we were required to use crab rings instead of pots this year. We could not let them soak for over two hours. I used crab rings and picked up the rings every about 30 minutes and averaged 8-12 crabs per ring and my highest count was 22 crabs in one ring. I was really happy with our success in the rings. I don’t think I ever had more than five crabs in any of my crab pots. The rings really out performed the pots for me. Your meal looked absolutely incredible. I will definitely try your recipe 🙏

WOW, that's incredible. Here in Puget Sound, because of the commercial and tribal fishery, for some reason, the rings do not work well here.

I'm from Oregon and we only use chicken and any kind of liver. And whether we are crabbing off of a dock or crabbing out of a boat, we pull our traps about every 15 minutes. Those were some big crabs you caught. But when you were preparing them, not sure I understand the reason for putting the flower and sauce on the shell that you're not going to eat. I understand having some kind of a sauce for lobster, crawdads, snow crab or king crab, but not dungeness crab. We clean them, and then boil them and eat them. 😊 Dungeness crab is the only one that needs absolutely no seasoning or dipping sauce. And in my opinion any seasoning or dipping sauce ruins the natural flavor of the great Dungeness crab meat. I don't even use Old Bay like most of the other people. 😊

Yes, I remember that day when I heard about this recipe from my Asian friend and I told him pretty much same thing, but he gave me that recipe and he told me Don’t say anything just try it and let me know. Yes, Dungeness crab you can eat them with no spices, soft and mild meat that just melts in your mouth, nothing is wrong to try out something different and boy o boy. When I tried it, I would say I can eat this three times a day for breakfast for lunch and for dinner😃🙏👍 I don’t have a time to babysit my crab pots just drop them off next day. Pull them out rebate them drop them back and go home with limit, 😀

When we pulled pots once per hour, we usually end up with a bunch of small crabs (less than 6.25") that we have to toss back. Waste of time. If the regs allowed us to keep Oregon-size crabs, it wouldn't be much of a problem pulling often.

Great video, thank you for sharing. My only thought is that there is electrolysis happening in the metal of the non catching trap. The best suggestion I have is attach sacrificial anodes to stop this. Supposedly if the trap has metal-exposed it creates electrolysis on the metal from the saltwater. But all if my traps work so I’m no expert. Maybe a good video would be this experiment to see if it helps the non catching traps?

Good Video 📹 👍. New Subscriber. The one pot that never gets crab is probably what people call HOT. It creates a electrical current or electrolysis. It needs to ground to the ocean floor. The salt water acts as a Electrolyte. I was told to put lead weights to the frame. Now I am by far NO expert. Just what I was told. The commercial crabbers put tire inner tube wrapped around the metal frame. 👌 Food looks Great 😋 😋

I have lived on the north West coast of Canada for all of My 77 Years, We boil the crab whole, in sea water, at boil for 12-15 min. then eat them....that's if You want to taste crab, the guts are part of the flavour, the yellow/green material between the leg/body halves, when more to the yellowish state is all the dip You need, the fatty Cap over this material is also a great feed.....If they are all disassembled and cooked like this all crab flavour is lost....might as well eat popcorn...

is it safe to leave pods overnight?
@hookedforanicemeal
@hookedforanicemeal Жыл бұрын
It’s hard to answer that question. It depends on the area I don’t recommend using expensive crab pots if you’re planning to leave them overnight cheap collapsible ones that’s what I’ve been doing once in a while I would lose one overall not too bad. Make sure add weight to your pots and leave out at least 20 feet of slack on your rope.

The best bait I have ever used and have tried many kinds and combinations has been chicken backs & turkey backs with a tin of oil packed cheapest sardines sardine's or mackerel. Brings them in the most in my experiences. Drop your pots over by Langley, Hat island and areas of Camano head. I won't crab in where you are which is the Everett waters but to each their own I suppose. The crabbing just isn't what it used to be like it was in the early 80s where we would just use a fish net on a 8ft pole while wading or using a kayak off of Mission beach , Priest Point and Kayak Pt. I remember being allowed to get 12 per day 7 days a week which was more than plenty & more than we would actually keep. There was usually 4 or 5 of us and we would grub up but good and have a heck of a crab and clam feast. With a lot put away all shelled and frozen to use over winter months. Great times indeed!
