Dungeon Crawler Carl was the first LitRPG I ever read. Had no idea this was even a genre up until then. Maybe it's because my husband and I are such gamer geeks we fell in love with DCC. This last year I have been on a mission to find other LitRPG series that entertain as much. If you haven't already: go find the Noobtown series. Meanwhile I am still devouring all things The Wandering Inn, and nearly threw myself a damn party for finally reaching Volume 8 online.

Similar feel, but more Sci-Fi is the Bobiverse Series by Dennis E. Taylor, in that they are also light-hearted and fun with serious undertones and an enjoyable narration. Speaking of which, Jeff Hayes does do a fantastic narration of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I would say, on-par with his performance are the narrations of the Dresden Files (books by Jim Butcher. read by James Marsters) and Project Hail Mary (book by Andy Weir, read by Ray Porter).

So happy you are reading DCC Matt and glad you are liking it. The quests do become more of a main stay of the series but I really think you will like the way the scope of the universe expands as the books go on. Personally I think you will like the way the next floor is set up 👌🏼

I recently found this series, on book four and loving it. It’s pure fun! (An edit to say I’m listening to the audiobooks, and trust me, they’re a different level and hugely elevate the story. Amazing).

Yeah the train dungean book (dungean anarchists cookbook) takes a couple listens. It can be confusing. You really have to pay attention though because there are callbacks every book to previous ones. I enjoyed book 4 and 5 a bit more but love them all.

It's a really funny way of doing LitRPG. All in all everything about the story is completely f'ed up, but it's handled (mostly) in a very fun/charming/crazy/ridiculous way. Recommended for fans of LitRPG and people looking for something different.

Just finished this one and totally agree on Hays being a god-tier narrator. The change to the city level and the quest format really didn't work for me after I was so engaged by the chaotic dungeon crawling from bk 1. My mind was continually wandering during these quests, but everything outside of those was still great and I'm pretty eager to see where things go on the next level down.

Would be cool to see The Slave's Son Saga that's one of the best almost unknown series around, you'll cry and laugh and rage and smile and everything in between, I just finished the second book and I had the shakes I just wanted to read the third but it's not out yet :c

Book 3 is widely considered the weakest of the series. Book 4 is incredible and book 5 is the best experience I've had with an audiobook ever. And I have 6 months listening time on audible.

I am 75% percent through this book and I am not loving it. I was obsessed without the first book, I read all 600 pages in two days, but I am struggling to finish this one. I liked the first quest, it was exciting and well-written, but I lost interest after that. I think the Mordecai manager thing isn't working. It takes away all of the uncertainty and mistery and replaces it with a bunch of exposition. I hope the third book will be more like the first.

I very much enjoyed this book, the 3rd book i enioyed but was my least favourite so far, but i still enjoyed and the 4th book (which I'm not done with yet) gets the series back on track (personally) but my favourite so far is the first book 🤘

I really like this book, but by far Book 2 is the weakest of the series so far (and that says a lot because its still a really good book on its own) but Book 3 is when the greater universe scope stuff really starts kicking in and goes from great to amazing.

I think Jeff Hays is a lot better. I can’t stand the wandering inn narrator’s voices for some of the characters / races (ie the drakes) and also some of them are hard to understand at times
