Thank you for cover Dungeon Degenerates and all the content that is available for it! I've gone all-in on the game, thanks in part to your videos, and am enjoying it supremely. The hardest part was to waiting for Canada to get some availability and avoiding the massive import fees from the US! It is an absolute shame the GOBLINKO wasn't able to get world-wide distribution sorted earlier (they have it now) as their stuff is so wholly unique and fresh in a world of safe and generic artwork and game structures. Board games stands to benefit from passion products like DD and the weirdness it can inspire in all of us. I'm having an absolute blast designing missions, home-brew rules, and just exploring the world that Sean has created. I would like to believe that Dungeon Degenerates has made me a better game designer and that is something I'm so grateful for. I would likely have missed the existence of it it if not for your videos. Thank you.

wow reminds me of all the 60s and 70s blacklight posters and tshirt designs my uncle had. so nostalgic seeing that kind of art, it is so reminiscent of that era.

D. Aardentvarkitage yeah. It’s a whole punk/Metal outsider art thing. There’s a long tradition of that style that this game taps into and builds on.

@TheDungeonDive, a couple of questions. (1) Did you laminate your DD character cards? (2) Would you consider Mean Streets a must-have? I know you're a bit of a DD completionist but I wonder if I should be getting them both at the same time?

Yes, I laminated. I would prioritize the extra character packs and small boosters.

I'm really tempted to do the same thing since I own a laminator. My character cards are curling up a bit and it's annoying. I'm wondering if laminating them might help.

Nice overview. I love the Jack Slasher character and all things Halloween in general!. You mentioned a book by Ray Bradbury called the October tree. Did you mean the Halloween tree? or collection of short stories called The October Country?. Thanks

I still haven’t played with the extra mean street components! However, it does seem to make the game more challenging because it adds another threat to deal with. I probably wouldn’t start with it.

I enjoy your occasional book recommendations. Any non-obvious recommendations for fantasy novels that are similar in tone to DD? Looking for something well-written but grungy and pulpy. Maybe like Gene Wolfe but funnier?

Thanks! Have you read anything by Hugh Cook? His series called The Chronicles of an Age of Darkness might be right up your alley. It is a series, but you don't need to read the books in order. They all take place in the same world. I would suggest the first book, The Wizards and the Warriors, and the fourth book The Walrus and the Warwolf - this one especially if you're looking for something grungy and pulpy. Have you read Manly Wade Wellman? His Conan-like character, Hok, is pretty great, and you can get all of those in a collection. I"ll have to check my shelves for other recommendations. I'm sure you're aware of the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser stuff?

By the way: While I am waiting for this game to arrive, you should Check out Secret Unknown Stuff- Escape from Dulce. A game that should be right up your style. New kickstarters coming this year. A roguelike coop encounter driven combat powergaming dungeon crawl with a hilarious SciFi Setting with a wonderful encounter and looting progression. Check it out. ;)

@@TheDungeonDive The 3D board is really just a gimmick but it supports the feeling of success and progress very well and it is not that fiddly to play on it as I feard.

I'm still waiting for my copy of DD and Mean Streets! I know from your and Geek Gamers reviews that the game is already hard on its own. Did you find the plague mechanic made things way too difficult or was it manageable along with everything else?

I think the plague mechanic will make things even more difficult. Not sure if I'll use it all that often.

The game is only excessively hard when played with a single character. i always play solo, almost always with 4 characters, and KO's are a rarity (though i recently had a party-of-four TPK on *turn 3*). Unlike many games, DD is not a real brain-drainer when playing with multiple characters.
