Makes sense that this is so similar to HeroQuest. Mantic was founded by a former managing director of Games Workshop. They have several games that are basically their own version of different GW games. Like Kings of War is their version of Warhammer Fantasy/The Old World, Dungeon Saga is their version of HeroQuest and takes place in the same world as Kings of War, Warpath is their version of Warhammer 40k. Dreadball is their version of Blood Bowl, Star Saga is their version of Space Crusade...

I love this game. I started with the original Dungeon Saga and the Adventurers Companion allows solo play. Origins improves on the original greatly, in my opinion.

Great addition, would love to see a game of this on your channel someday !

I've gone through my terrain crate stuff and seperated out stuff to put over the graphics on the tiles for "League of Dungeoneer's" game. PS: many, many of my painted Mini's live in bags. There varnished, why not.

Have not played Dungeon Saga Origins yet. However the previous version I liked better than HeroQuest.

Augh! Those models look so good! I can't afford this right now, I really can't!

Oh my, now I'm really having buyers remorse. I got all excited and purchased 3rd Ed Descent and its expansion, on Amazon prime day. While I like the floor assets in Descent, these minis are way more HeroQuestable. The Descent minis are in a more wispy high fantasy style and are thin and made of easily breakable plastic.

This reminds me I need to branch out to other things on my other channel. HeroQuest is only board game I’ve gone over. Primarily Ttrpg so yes need more board and card games
@sackofhamАй бұрын
Could you run these quest with Heroquest rules? Can Heroquest stats be converted to this system? Can you bench press an adult buffalo?
@AshQuestАй бұрын
1. Yes absolutely. We will need to keep the board sections, or otherwise take liberties to convert the board configurations to an HQ board (which by the way, to each their own but I always think shoehorning other games' maps into HQ is fun...!) 2. It sounds so easy to simply stat convert! But with as small as the numbers we are working with are, we'd probably want to playtest a boatload before hosting a converted game - the conversion could lead to catastrophic spikes (or valleys) in difficulty or other factors like downtime or overall fun. But, it'd probably be fine!... 3. A cursory Google search reveals a significant difference in weight between a male and female adult buffalo, but even assuming we use a lighter female weighing 790 lbs, I'm also told I can only lift about 350 lbs after years of intensive training. The answer is objectively no v_v

I wanted to like this. It has a lot going for it but the combat just doesn’t work me. I love numbers and math but I find it very immersion-breaking when I have numbers on dice instead of symbols. Since you roll and compare numbers on dice a lot in this, it really killed the fun for me. Since it is so much like HQ in terms of complexity and gameplay I decided to sell it since I love my skulls and shields dice in HQ.
@AshQuestАй бұрын
This is a good take. It's hard to come off skulls and shields.

Such a shame that this is a pain in the a.. to remove mold lines on these Kickstarter plastic miniatures. I just finished Nemesis Lockdown, and from now on, when I paint a box like this, I just give up on mold lines. Even if the miniatures have nice poses and look great, the material is too cheap...
@josephpurdy839029 күн бұрын
Plastic injection molds cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. They would need to sell millions of each every figure produced. That way, the cost of the mold is 1% or less of total production cost. On each unit that is produced and sold. You're going to have multiple molds to produce an entire box worth of units. There is the possibility to have more than one figure in each mold. You do want to wear out the mold before retiring it. That means years' worth of production.
@AshQuest29 күн бұрын
They *can* cost that much. So molds and the machines that inject into them are built in a wildly varying range. Small molds for single or a few minis are achievable and can cost in the hundreds of dollars range (with an appropriately sized "desktop" injection machine anywhere from $1k to $12k) though likely a range of minis comes from a single sprue (think '89 HeroQuest) in a mold that is in the 10-30k range. The upper range of hundreds of thousands really being sized for enormous molds in injectors built to make things like 60 gallon tubs. You probably won't find gaming minis produced with say a Cincinnati Milacron...but if you did, the entire HQ game system minis would fit in the mold several times over, completing several sets with just one machine cycle of 10-20 seconds (after the time consuming die setup). Of course it is possible to make minis with mold lines that aren't injection molded as well, though this is more laborious and can be costlier for larger runs.

I'm on the fence on getting this. Does the base game just not measure up at all to the Legendary edition? I just want a boxed dungeon crawl that will fill my space along with my pen/paper ones like 4AD and D100
@nblack387929 күн бұрын
The biggest difference between the base game and Legendary (kickstarter) edition is the extra 6 heroes that are only available through this edition. Outside of that, Mantic has not yet released 2 of the 3 expansions in their own sets yet.

Do you actually play all this games or just hoarding them?
@AshQuestАй бұрын
Hoarding first, probably play one put of every five, and give away another one or two if the game isn't for me, but want to eventually play all that I keep.
