What impressed me the most about Core Space and Maladum is how easy it is to make custom content. The game is made in a way that the outcome of a scenario isn't necessarily fixed. You try to achieve something but you could fail and try to get out. A lot of games you either win or fail the scenario. E.G. I love Gloomhaven. Its mechanics are great, the cards, the different classes and such. But very often I thought I would have liked to have more agency over the story. In that regard it is very much set. Adding to the existing scenarios might throw the balancing off. So it takes a lot of getting to know everything before you can comfortable make custom content. Maladum on the other hand you can setup the stuff ANY WAY you like and imagine ANY KIND of scenario. In a village, rescue a prisoner, flee from the zombies. An ambush for the party. Just set it up and play. You don't really have to superimpose any story onto it, because the story will literally develop while you are playing. With the terrain it so immersive. And thanks to the character creator you can make up your own NPCS, Player characters, monsters, classes. It already comes with tons of content that you can either play as is for tons of gameplay or take as a foundation to tell your own stories. And that is by design. I cannot praise it enough.

Core Space is the Sci Fi version of this game which came first. It's brilliant!
@danroberts0072 ай бұрын
the original Core Space was designed for 2 players to compete to collect loot (not necessarily attacking each other, although it's certainly allowed, but racing to get the goods before the other guy) while the follow-up game, "Core Space: First Born" isn't competitive, making it more of a collaborative board game and definitely solo-friendly. Maladum continues with the "CS: First Born" model of solo/collaborative play. Just mentioning it for folks that aren't familiar with the game systems. :-)

A great review! I loved your video. you mentioned durability, It takes a good bit of time but paint the edges of the cardboard with a color that matches the face. Then run a line of the thin super glue on the cardboard edges. The cardboard absorbs the superglue and makes the pieces much stronger. I have Core Space I got from the original KS and followed Colin's directions on this. Not one piece has failed after many years of sometimes constant play.

Firstly thank you for the tips, very useful info, and secondly really good to know that the terrain is that durable too

Looks really nice! I've been thinking about some of the sci-fi sets for use with Infinity, I have a couple of Kallax cubbies for terrain so stuff that's mostly flat-packable is ideal. Tip for card terrain: if you're worried it'll get dented and frayed with use, get some thin superglue with a brush applicator and just run the brush down all the edges. It dries quickly as the card wicks it up, and it seals the edges with a durable finish. Do this while the slot-together stuff is disassembled and you can take it apart and reassemble without worrying so much about damaging the slots.

Such a fantastic dungeon dive system. The loot discovery/crafting is very well done, simple but satisfying campaign and RPG system, and the NPC elements of enemies, wandering beasts (hostile to all players and ai characters), and random NPCs that can either aid or hinder you combine for an excellent system with loads of complexity for players looking for it while still remaining simple enough for casual tabletop gamers to be able to pick it up.

Man, this is a really great package. Very impressed with all the premium injection moulded components and neoprene mat - these are features you'd expect to have to buy as an add-on upgrade to a base game from most other companies. The attention to detail in having little sections to store the card terrain in after is just such a lovely touch. Speaking of the card terrain... Battle Systems card terrain is really nice, but I'd really love it if they found a way to printing their terrain on pre-dyed or coloured card - that way when you pop it out, instead of getting those white edges, you'd get something that more closely resembles the print. For a time, I tried colouring the edges of the terrain with a marker (which is what BS do for their marketing photographs), but I found it surprisingly time consuming and kinda defeats the purpose of pop out and play terrain.

Battle Systems have excellent Graphic Design. I have the KS Urban Apocalypse scenery and neoprene mat - great for Zombicide and Cthuhlu Miniature Games. Got my kickstarter a few weeks ago, and been having an absolute blast putting together the scenery, i picked up everything. Theres a whole ton of variety in the scenery if you do get all the expansions, terrain sets that were available and so on, lots of cool little bits that really show how much experience and knowledge they have when it comes to designing card terrain. Have managed to play a couple times as well. Rules seem daunting at first, but once you've played a couple round, theyre actually dead simple If i had to make criticisms, definitely needs more little baggies like you said, you need to separate out all the loot tokens, then theres all the pegs, then all the different types of tokens and so on, easily could have done with a dozen more. Also some separate reference sheets would have been nice. Rules are simple but there are SO MANY different icons for abilities, skills, effects and so on. The rulebook does list them in its own section, and you can download the reference section from their website, but it would have been nice to have some separate reference sheets included in the box. Otherwise, absolutely loving the game, cant wait to paint up the minis and get a campaign started with my partner!

I like battlesystems, but I love Dungeons and Lasers. I use the sci fi for Violent Dark, Stargrave all kinds. I use the Tavern and Tudor etc fir Rangers of Shadowdeep, Frost Grave and Mordheim. I am looking forward to the cave sets to arrive to me from Gamefound. They are also affordable like well $54 US for the starter sets. $20 US for the additions.

I mentioned this a while ago but I think the lighting and quality on this video is even better than last time I mentioned it. So here's your brownie point.

Aww thankyou very much, Peach has been working hard to try to improve these things (steep learning curve 😆) and it's super nice to get such positive feedback Luv Mrs Peach 🍑

This looks incredible, I'd be interested to know how long those walls would likely last with frequent use. It is very strong card, any idea of the release date? Great video too @PeachyTips

I believe it’s available now, and in regards to the life span on the card, a few folks say they seal the edges with super glue using a brush applicator, obviously before it’s all assembled, adds to the life span by a lot I hear, but it still pretty robust to last even if you don’t do that

Hi!, great video! you made me curious. Can I ask you a question? the mini of the beauty at 21:46 where is it from? where can I find it? Thank you!

This looks fun, I've never used Battle Systems terrain before but I always thought it looked nice. I really like the look of their buildings :D

Pegs or Peggz ? :) Seems like a neat gateway into the merry world of Dungeon Crawling, unlike the 40k Boarding Actions terrain set, which is great, but you have a metric ton of plastic to cut, clean and glue, not for everyone, certainly not entry level. And you don't need 8 different rule books to play a game :) Not seen the new Hero Quest, but def giving off the OG game vibes, and that is a good thing.

Having a real Sméagol moment over here. “That looks great let’s buy it!” “No.” “Peach says it’s good!” “…” “Come on!” “But we have a dungeon crawler. It’s Journeys In Middle-earth and we’ve never finished it.” “…but this one has terrain!” “…you’re right, precious…”

So the question I have is, card cut/press outs always have that raw edge where the card has not been coloured to match the rest of it. Are you as pedantic as me in wanting to paint those edges to tone down that bright edge and get it to fit in with the rest of the scenery?
@PeachyTipsАй бұрын
Yeah! ATM I really can’t be arsed, but I foresee I’ll get out the lens at somepoint and tone them down a bit lol

Like you, impressed. Was your box a Kickstarter special? In other words, are the contents you displayed here what we punters who missed an initial buy will get if we buy it now?
@PeachyTips2 ай бұрын
Yes I’m pretty certain it is the standard retail boxset, it was what they were teasing at Spiel in Essen, and what’s available now on their website. Which is ace tbh
