For combat, it's technically in WoDu. "When you attempt something risky, sum 2d6 and add one of your attribute scores, based on the action you’re taking." So roll 2d6+stat, you then roll your damage if you succeed. Take damage from the creature if you fail. And DM decides what happens on a partial succeed, but I like both sides take damage to keep things moving.

Finally someone is talking about another one of my favorite rpg: World of Dungeons. I had a whole campaign like years ago and it was a blast. So great job on this, this reminds me I gotta get back into running and playing WODU! (Also as someone who played Maplestory, I always love the choice in music. ⚔🍄)

@@tabletopbro It was a lot of fun. I recall the gm had a little podcast for it but I am not sure where it is. Though it is very heavy on the GM working with the players to craft the world. It helps to have a lot of gm tools. maplestory ttrpg when tho? (nexon wont ever approve that)

If you haven't already, I'd recommend checking out Fantasy World by Alessandro Piroddi and Luca Maiorani. It describes itself as a modern and updated PbtA RPG with a focus on dramatic fantasy (as opposed to dungeon crawling), so something more akin to fantasy novels. One of the things that stand out to me is how damage and injury are completely narrative, though there are mechanics to track the effects of the injuries you've taken (which serve to inform the narrative and your roleplay). All in all, it has its place in the collection of PbtA games on how to play this style of RPG with the hopes of making things clearer and more concrete in areas that were lacking in previous PbtA games.

@@tabletopbro Honestly, it's a bit of a tough read-I certainly bounced off it hard for a few years, until I found myself in a Star Wars themed game of Blades. It's one of my favorite systems these days, but I can't really say that I've found any Forged in the Dark game books that have completely solved the problem of presenting all the moving parts in an easily digestible way. As with most things, I find the best way to learn is by doing! (And if you ever get the urge, hit me up-I'm always down to run a one-shot of CBR+PNK or something.)

I'd say the only thing the game is lacking is a list of general actions or consequences to perform on a 9-. It could be the list of GM moves from Dungeon world. Whenever a character has a partial success or failure use one of the following that fits: - Deal damage or apply a condition - Use up their resources - Use their move against them - Separate the character - Show a downside from their characters - Offer an opportunity with or without a cost - Put someone in the spot

I. Love. WoDu. It is my favorite PbtA, with For The Dungeon coming in at a close second. You misrepresented a couple points regarding wizards, special abilities, magic and the advancement of levels, but I'm just nitpicking. But Rules Lite isn't for everyone, and one should definitely be an experienced gm to run such low information systems.

What did I get wrong about wizards, special abilities, magic and the advancement of levels? I was reading almost straight from the pamphlet🧐 I agree! I prefer the quick and simple systems cause it makes running and playing SO much smoother. But all the people who comment “Mork Borg isn’t a game it’s an art book” would probably HATE this game😂

If I was to rate Freeform games as perfect to did they truly make an effort, this one feels like it was created over a weekend of copious amounts bong usage and good ‘nuff mentality. I feel like he initial concepts have merit but it would benefit strongly from at least a couple of examples of spells, monsters and combat. Too much of it is left vague or nonexistent and that leads to infighting at the table or a complete control monger of a GM. If I wanted to make my own game, I would. Wait, I did.
